Is the rivalry back?

Feh; some of us never actually stopped hating the Lakers. I never got the memo that I wasn't supposed to hate them any more; I hated the Lakers from the day I became a basketball fan almost seventeen years ago, which predates Shaq/Kobe/Phil by a bit, so I didn't even think twice about continuing to hate them after they left.

Whether the players, coaches, or anyone else, for that matter, continue to hate the Laker or consider it a rivalry is no concern of mine; as long as the Lakers franchise is in the NBA, I will hate them.

ditto.

For the Kings and Lakers to have a rivalry, the Lakers will actually have to make the playoffs and become an elite team once more, and the Kings will have to reload to become a contender again. Once they're both contenders or close to it, I think the rivalry will still be alive, especially if Bibby, Peja, Bojax, Kobe, Jackson, and Adelmen are still around. Webber, Vlade, Christie, and Shaq leaving only kills part of the old memories from the previous rivalry, not all of them.

As far as hating the Lakers is concerned; well yes, rivalry or not, you guys are always entitled to hate the better franchise aka the Los Angeles Lakers.

Kidding. :D

Well, anyone that would lie outright about being poisened by a hotel as an excuse, when he was actually drinking the night before and got alchohol poisoning at the Esquire Grill, just really shows that he has no class whatsoever. Hence the reason why the Lakers are no longer staying at the Hyatt anymore since then, the hotel had every right not to let them stay with them anymore.

If you recall..the Bee came out with an article saying that the "source" had lied about Kobe being drunk. I don't really think a player would be out partying and drinking the night before a playoff game. Kobe wasn't the one who said he was "poisoned", it was the fans and the press. I don't think he said anything except that he had food poisoning..period.(I've had fodd poisoning, and believe me, it ain't pretty.) The Lakers don't stay at the Hyatt because the Sheraton was built and is nicer and newer. I believe all teams now stay at the Sheraton.

Now that phil jackson is back with the lakers, does that bring back some of the emotions that raged between these two teams a few years ago?

Nope.

Rivalry never left and never will IMO so bringing Phil back does nothing.

I don't think Phil coming back makes it a rivalry again. It never really left, just cooled off a bit. We both had subpar seasons. Bringing Phil back just gives us more focus in our dislike. I mean really - what could you say about Frank Hamblen other than "poor guy" and I liked Rudy, so no hatred there. But Phil? Come on. I LOVE to think bad things about him!

As far as a rivalry needing to be two sided. Don't kid yourself. Many Laker fans dislike us just as much. Don't you know my friends and family that live around Lakerland and the West Coast in general called me before EVERY GAME we played the past few seasons to gloat? They missed the ferver just as much as I did last season. They have told me more than once that they LOVE beating us and HATE losing to us more than any other team. I would call that a rivalry.

Now had Phil joined the Kings and replaced Adelman then things might have cooled of a bit more but image Phil taking the Kings job and Adelman taking the Lakers job. Talk about a rivalry. :)

For me the rivalry never went away especially because of Kobe and those obnoxious fans(with 2 exceptions who have great taste in music and videos;), you know who you are). I always liked Phil when he was with the Bulls, I was a fan of them back then but then he went to LA and started talking all this smack about us, made it very hard to like him anymore. I admire his coaching skills, 9 rings is pretty impressive, no matter how he got them. I can see how his return to LA would add fuel to the fire for some people but personally it was always there. I reveled in the fact that they were not only were they worse than us, they were the worst team in LA. I still look forward to playing them more than anybody and the only other rivalry that even comes close IMO is with the Mavs. I don't care whose playing or coaching, I will always love to hate them.
