IPOD questions

Okay, the technically-challenged RoyalDiva strikes again!! This time it is about IPODs. I would really like to buy one, but I have a couple questions. Most importantly, does one need their own personal computer? I don't have that. I thought that I could just buy the IPOD, get a subscription to ITunes, and then download all the songs I want at a public computer terminal such as at the library or Kinko's. But then someone told me last week that they thought a computer software program and equipment was needed to use an IPOD. Is this true??

You need to download the itunes program on your computer. I don't think Kinkos would allow that....don't know though.

you most likely cannot install any software or download items off of public terminals. now, if you have a computer at work that you can convince the IT guys to install itunes on...

Yeah- you basically need a PC to use an Ipod. You guys are right in that at public computers they don't allow you to install and plug in the required programs.

but yeah, if not at work, you could probably find a friend who has a computer to install your itunes and what-not.

iTunes is worth the PC investment, truly. I love iTunes and my iPod. I am wondering if you can load two versions of iTunes on one PC. I am considering getting my teenager an iPod for her birthday but I don't know how iTunes would work twice on one PC. This will be our third iPod, as my husband also has one. I highly, highly recommend them but definitely get one with more storage than you think you'll use! I have the 4G mini that holds a thousand songs and I wish I'd have gotten at least a 20G. Hubby has a 40G and his isn't even halfway filled.

Is the ITunes software expensive, and it is hard to install? Does it take up a lot of storage room on the PC? I might try to do this on my mom's computer the next time I visit her if she's willing.

Takes up about 13.2mb of diskspace ....

I believe it comes with the service of downloading their music - no charge

iTunes, the software, comes with your iPod. You can DL songs from the iTunes store(via your iTunes software) for .99 per song. I prefer Bear Share for my music because you can find older, more obscure music through that means. I believe you can DL a version of iTunes from their website but I am not sure how it compares to the version that comes with the iPod. I am not familiar with it. Basically, for a few hundred bucks you get a cool iPod and iTunes which is just awesome. It's a great deal, really.

You can download a full version of iTunes from iTunes.com for FREE. It is the full version of the software...no tricks (they want you to purchase music from their store, so they give you the software for free). A version of iTunes comes with your iPod that you can load onto your computer, but the computer MUST be running either Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Anything other than that...no dice. Now...there are other programs out there that you can buy to "hack" your iPod and allow it to work on other systems, but I don't know anything about that and I think iTunes is the BEST player out there...period. And, yes...you cannot use your iPod unless you have a computer to get the music onto it. Also, the computer that you use must have at least a USB 2.0 port and or a firewire (IIEE) port. You can use any USB port, but if it's not at least a 2.0...the transfer time is like a dial-up connection. You will also need a high-speed internet connection for music purchases (downloads), otherwise you'll be waiting about 10 minutes per song for the download. I know it's a lot of information, but I think it's totally worth it. I LOVE my iPod and have had it about 2 years now...no problems...not even battery issues ('course I use it mostly hooked up to a charger in my car with a FM radio connection to my car stereo). GO FOR IT! BTW, if you have any questions, just PM me...I'll do my best to answer them.

Itunes is a rip off or at least when you see it on tv advertising 1 dollar for a song. maybe if it was to download the whole cd, but if you just want one individual song then i think it isn't a very good bargain. Can you put mp3's on an ipod?
