Interesting Tidbits for Voison Chat

As I've already pointed out, it would have had to have been a pretty dirty bulk (ie. eating all kinds of bad foods just to hit his macros) for Cousins to gain 20lbs in that span of time. A professional athlete is not a bodybuilder, he should be clean bulking (getting a surplus of calories through eating complex carbs, proteins and healthy fats) if he's trying to gain muscle.

These particular professional athletes are on a 7-9 month on, 3-5 (depending on playoffs) month off schedule. Dirty bulk or clean doesn't matter much in mid offseason. He could be a lean mean machine right now and it wouldn't score one point or grab one rebound that matters. So, have a burger big guy, get it out of your system. :p Just make sure to start trimming it back off come late August or so and be ready to go Oct 1.

Spot on, which is why this is only a problem if it isn't fixed by the time pre-season comes around. But he's creating extra work for himself.

I don't know if you've ever worked with a trainer, but one of the first things they'll tell you, is that your going to gain weight before you lose weight. Simple fact: Muscle weighs more than fat, and when you start replacing fat with muscle, you tend to gain weight. Now my recollection was that Cuz weighed around 275 to 280 at the end of last season, and if so, that would mean he only gained somewhere between 10 and 15 pounds, which would make more since. I'm not saying its all muscle, but it could be. Lets wait and see!

I'm aware of how it works, and I can guarantee you it's not all muscle. Someone with freak genetics might be able to put on 15-20lbs of muscle over a year, and that's with a strict diet and year-round dedication to lifting. It's simply not possible.

Look, the more we discuss this the bigger an issue we're making of it. So I'll stop here! It's not a huge deal, just something I would have preferred hadn't happened.

From what I saw in the practice last night it wasnt muscle.

For most people, it takes a strict diet and exercise plan to put on 1lb of muscle per month. It takes a few days to lose 1lb of fat. People all too often think they aren't losing weight because they're gaining muscle. It doesn't work that way unless they are doing some insane workouts. From what I've seen from Cousins, I highly doubt he put on 15lbs of muscle by bulking up and is getting ready to slim down to NBA shape. He's a huge dude so he can put on 20lbs of fat by the snap of his fingers. Remember he's a massive guy and doesn't just eat 2000-3000 calories a day like most people. He's also a professional athlete, so he should be able to lose it quickly as well.
