Interest in AK47?

Still have a shot at AK47

According to this tweet a few min ago, Kings were mentioned.

Probasketballdraft@Probballdraft 4m Andrei Kirilenko drawing interest from the Kings, Spurs, Nets, and Cavs. AK47 free agency has been surprisingly quiet.

Well, the Kings are really the only one out of that group that has decent cap space (if they amnesty Salmons), so...I have a feeling AK might end up back in Europe, unless he gets something like 3/21 out of the Kings.

I would give 3/21 easy. Very good locker room guy and role player who would instantly improve the defense. Coupled with his passing, they could have him facilitate the offense at times from the SF position. Pretty much a jack of all trades who provides the Kings with everything they are looking for at SF.

After looking at earlier FA activity, looks like Spurs tried to arrange a sign and trade but Minny did not want to help AK get a longer contract

I wonder if Spurs trade asset was not interesting to Minny? Would we have P Pat, Jimmer, or thorton that Minny may want?
Or would we just have to Amnesty Salmons, Wow AK47 and Moute? Ummmm Helll yeah!!

so if we amnesty Salmons, how much would we be able to offer him? im assuming the FO is trying to trade one of Hayes/Patterson/JT and a at least one of Jimmer/Thornton/IT.

But really the only way he comes here is if we can offer him a lot more than teams like the Spurs, i can also just see him going back to the Euroleague, seems like he likes being at home, just plays over here for the bigger payday.

Spurs already tried to do a S&T with Minny, but Minny declined. Think that's the only way SA could've obtained AK after resigning Manu and Splitter. I think the Kings really could have him if they're aggressive.

How aggressive do we want to be when it comes to signing a 32 year old player I guess is the question?

If you're Kirilenko, how much more would the Kings have to pay you than the Spurs or the Nets to go play for them?

AK opted out of his Minnesota contract to try and get one more multi-year deal in the NBA. Not sure he has the O'Brien trophy at the top of his list right now...

signing Splitter and Manu just put them over the cap so they could use the MLE. have already spent that on Pendergraph and Bellinelli. sooo, yeah, they don't have any money left.

as for Kiri: HELLS YEAH! with him and Mbah a Moute, there's still not a whole lot of shooting, but the defense might actually not be hopeless anymore. plus, you upgrade the team's bball IQ, too AND give Vasquez one more target for lobs.

If the Kings got Moute, AK and a pass first point guard after the draft, this would habe been a good offseason.

To my way of thinking this IS where you over-pay. I liked the obscenely high offer to Iggy in the sense that it gave an aging vet with just the skills we need the last big payday they are looking for so you might just land them. If we want AK we need to come in strong with a BIG offer, otherwise it's just a waste of time. We NEED rim protector, and perimeter defender who does not need the ball on the other end of the floor. If we can play JT, DMC and AK47 we go from sucking at rebounding to essentially dominating 95% of the teams on the boards.

I agree. This is the kind of player you overpay for. This type of pickup would help to establish an identity and change the culture. Yes, we would still lack a dynamic playmaker, but one could argue that the defensive improvement would help to cover that deficiency. AK is no slouch, offensively, either. An amnesty of Salmons opens up money, and if we can somehow, somehow, find a taker for Hayes, it could be done.

If the FO wants to be aggressive, this is their chance.

Also the July 17th date is last date to amnesty Salmons, I hope Kings let AK47 know if Minny is not going to do a sign and trade to help AK get a 3 yr contract
that he needs to decide soon, so we have the option of letting Salmons go this next week

otherwise all the teams interested would have to do a lot to clear cap space, and if Minny does not cooperate AK may have a problem

Wonder if Adelman still covets the Chuck Wagon?

I was under the impression we were under the cap by 4 mil (before signing draft picks):
9 players before FA 41,591,000
Landry 6,500,000
Moute 4,500,000
Vasquez 2.150,000
Less Salmons (7,580,000)

Total Pre AK47 47,161,000
Cap 58,600,000

Under cap 11,439,000

Even if we need 3 mil for the two draft pics, cant we exceed the cap to sign draft pics?

I thought I saw somewhere we were 4 mil under cap with Salmons

As long as we sign the draft picks last we are ok?

AK47 in for same/similar salary as Salmons who gets amnestied is a great deal IMHO. AK is a shot blocker, a rebounder and similar to JS in shooting-scoring. And only 2 years or until a SF kid comes along who should obviously replace him. Then sharing minutes and then off the bench then he gets traded again. Ok by me.

I'd love to get AK47, he is the kind of player we need. If we can tade Jimmer for a future 2nd round pick, amnesty Salmons, we should have enough money for him.

Come on Pete, this move would be the greatest FA signing after Vlade. Make it happen!

Laaaaaaaaaame. Screw that guy though, he chose to not come here last year too. But he does have a better chance at winning with the nets obviously

Oh great, I guess I was late... Too bad, I guess the fact Prokhorov is the owner of the Nets may be the reason for this signing.
