Somehow those moves make a lot more sense when you bring in the best DEFENDER in the league.atxrocker said:its just so funny so many people were calling for Petrie and RA's heads around here not so long ago. My, How things change.

Bricklayer said:Unless we and they are all bleeping geniuses too. Completely obvious move, whoever made the call. Just the question of whether somebody was actually dragging his feet or not. But regardless, finally reaching the same conclusion as everybody else did 2 years back isn't exactly genius stuff whether it was Geoff or the brothers Maloof.

Bricklayer said:1) the bio pieces show only Maloofs involved
2) every media member and fan in the country had been suggesting it for years
3) Geoff had gone out of his way to poo poo the exact same trade last summer (with his moon pointing comment)
4) Geoff was preaching the value of sitting on his hands as recently as early January
5) Ron had been out there and imminently available since early December

The fact that we didnt know the "future" was going to stay or leave was a big problem.kingkung said:I don't think you can call any trade involving Ron Artest completely obvious. It still takes guts to mortgage your future on Ron Artest.
MrBiggs said:Some people (including me) feel that the trade benefited the Kings simply by getting rid of Peja's sourface. Ron Artest was just icing on the cake.

Entity said:Since before the trade and now after it i don't feel its a gamble. To me it was a gamble to keep going with Peja. His style did not fit what we needed anymore. Peja was awesome when we had the 2 best passing big men in the league. then we got brad and had the 3 best. when vlade and webber left it was just brad whom is the worst of the 3. Brad is much more uncontrolled on the elbow although his screens are better he isn't as smart with the ball as the other 2. Now Brad fits well with somebody that can create for themselves and he doesn't have to pass and set screens for someone in order for them to take a shot. Peja made Brad work much harder than he should. Brad was working harder to get Peja a shot that to get himself a shot. Now if Peja could post up or take someone off the dribble he would have done fine. The Kings just could not proper with that type of one dimensional player. sure we would win some games but never to the level we are at now. My true feelings is we needed something new and I felt K-mart and Garcia were going to be that something new. Peja needed to be gone for those 2 to prosper although it would take more time. Thats why i feel the gamble was keeping Peja and pushing the kids back. Now you throw in Artest and the injury to Bonzi and you get to the level quicker because you got basically a player almost at superstardom. So he is taking us to that level we need and the kids are growing and learning from him and bonzi on defense. Peja could not teach kev and frac anything but, Artest and bonzi are going to make their games grow that much fast and that much stronger. If we can keep 7 of this 8 man rotation in tact for next season we will be at the top of the pacific again. here are the ones we must keep to reach that plateu.
Mike Bibby
Kevin Martin
Ron Artest
Brad Miller
Francisco Garcia
those 5 are a must now any combination or all of these 3 would be nice
Bonzi Wells
Kenny Thomas
Shareef Abdur-Rahim
If we cannot keep all or 1 or 2 of those 3 we must sure up the PF spot with defense and rebounding and not a liability on offense. If Bonzi doesn't return we must do the same with the other swing position with Garcia getting most of the minutes. But you do need someone just in case.
#1 objective is we have to draft a PF/C to grow with this team this year or trade for a young active PF/C
love_them_kings said:would have loved to see Webb & Artest play together (Bonzi too). Talk about a team of warriors! And, yes, Petrie has made some great moves over the years, but he's only human, as evidenced by the Webb trade. When Petrie decides to flop, he goes all out!![]()
Venom said:I agree with Brick. There is every reason to believe that Petrie that the roster he assimilated in the offseason would be a true contender. Many knowledgeable posters here were pointing out the fallibility of that belief long before November/December. I give Petrie credit for Martin panning out, drafting Cisco, and the Bonzi deal (irrespective of what happens with Bonzi in the offseason). However, as stated, the Artest deal was entirely obvious, and should have been consummated 2-3 years ago when we still had Webber.
