Impressed with Peja's overall game

G-League
Kings fans: here is what I posted on Pacers Digest. He played v ery well tonight and did other things besides shooting.

------

Anyone who has watched any NBA games the past 8 years knows that Peja can shoot the ball, he is simply one of the best shooters in the NBA and has been for 6 or 7 years now. His height helps him get his shot off over most guys that defend him, and his quick release enables him to shoot it before his defender can get to him. His movement off the ball also is very impressive.

But everyone knew all of that. I sure knew all that, and nothing there has surprised me in the least. One thing when Peja misses a shot he really misses it bad.

No surprises.

However I've been very impressed with his overall game. I always say that as a fan you never really know a player until he plays on your team and you see him every game and you have an emotional attachment to his performance.

Let's start with his rebounding. He certainly is not a classic rebounder, but he gets a lot of rebounds, to be honest I don't really know how, maybe smarts, maybe he has a nose for the ball.

Peja has also impressed me with his passing, he seems to be a decent passer, better than I thought.

But what has surprised me the most is his defense. No he's not Artest, and no he is not a great defender by any means, but he isn't bad. The job he did on Odom tonight was quite impressive, he certainly has the smarts, experience and ability to be adequate. I'll tell you he is better than some other small forwards the Pacers have had over the years.

So far I'm satisifed Peja, he seems to be a very smart player and everyone knows we need that.

I might be satisifed with Peja, but I love Granger. I know expect him to make every open shot he takes.

Never said that he couldn't be a good player, he just hasn't been here the last year and a half. It just proves he wasn't truely happy here no matter what he said. I've been saying all season it looks like he doesn't want to be here, I figured he'd do good with a change of scenery

One thing about Peja that stands out on the Pacers team is how smart a player he is. Pacers don't have too many smart players. Of course a few years ago your team was filled with very smart players, so maybe Peja's basketball IQ did not stand out, but here it does stand out

You're right, on the same team with Webber, Divac and Christie, basketball IQ was not something that stood out with Pedja, but I guess all our players had to have high bball IQ as Adelman would simply not play them no matter how good they were in other respects (see Gerald Wallace).

I didn't see the game tonight. How was Pedja's team defense?

Peja definetly wasnt the problem to the Kings defensive woes over this 6 or 7 year stretch. Hes no stopper but hes no Bibby or Miller either.

Peja had a great game tonight! Wow, 9/19, 13 rebounds..26 points!

Good for him. I hope this is a start for something great for him on his new team!

saw the box score on Peja tonight, something like 13 rebounds. he's had a couple bizarro games like that this season with the Kings. It'll be interesting to see how he plays out the rest of the season.

Peja was awesome tonight. I honestly feel the trade was best for both Peja and the Kings. I hope Peja continues to perform....13 boards!!!! Who knew? Even extra special cuz it was against the Lakers. Keep it up Peja!!!!!

I'm very happy for Pedja and the Pacers fans. :) And I hope Pedja thrives there (except when playing the Kings;) ) I went to Pacers Digest and read the game thread. Very entertaining and the fans seemed excited about Pedja. Of course, its always exciting to get a big win. Especially against the LA Kobes.;)

Peja was an above average defender with the Kings. In the hands of a coaching staff with a defensive philosophy, he can be even better. I was for the Peja/Artest deal, but I'm happy to see Peja do well. Hopefully he keeps playing this way and improves his versatility under Rick Carlisle and Larry Bird.

i dont know UB....the lakers arent that great of a test....odom is odom, but hes not a bad matchup for peja....hes not overly physical or that quick....plus hes not a very good defender....

now saturday....that will be a much better barometer for peja.....

It it nice to see how the fans appreciate him there

If he were still here and had such a game - people here would just be happy about his trade value going up.

If Pedja can stay healthy - there is no reason for him not to be very good again.

Good game by Peja! Awesome. You guys got a good player - sad to see him go but he just didn't fit in here like he used to. Hope he light it up for you guys every night unless you're playing the Kings!

He was looking agressive again. Looks like a change of scenery might do him some good.

LOL. Don't expect this often.

playing alongside jasikevicius will benefit peja; two euro players who can understand each other and click on two-on-two plays never hurts. knowing that your team has actually interior defense helps you on d. i will not be surprised, in fact i said that before, if peja has a much better performance from here on. of course, all depends on how bad that back is.

Nonsense. It's precisely because he wasn't having games like this that people were even thinking about trading him.

I'm very glad he's doing well, but Indiana shouldn't expect a game like this from him when they play Detroit next. Tayshaun Prince always kills him.

Did Peja ever get 13 rebounds for Sacramento? Does a man have to be traded to understand that Kings' management was not kidding when they told the Kings players before the 2005-2006 season started that they needed to improve their rebounding and defense? If Peja had averaged 8 or 10 rebounds per game this year, he would not have been traded.

Peja always (ok most of the time) rebounds well against the Lakers. Hes had an 18, and 2 17 rebounding games against the Lakers.

Enjoy the game Uncle Buck... but the double digit rebounding is definatly an aberation... 5 a night is good for Pedja... But I am really glad things seem to working for him in Indy!
