If you signed a Pro Arena petition

At the Rhythm & Rims event and at the game last night, several petition gatherers were trying to get pro-arena signatures. Perhaps even saying that they were against STOP and wanted a new arena.

They misrepresented their true intent. They were gathering and getting paid for signatures that were to be turned in along with the STOP petition. In plain language, they tricked people into signing. They even fooled me on Sunday with their deception.

If you signed something pro-arena, you can withdraw that mistaken signing at the only organization that is really collecting withdraw slips. That is downtownarena.org.

Here is their website: http://downtownarena.org/

You will find a link at the top of the page to the correct form to withdraw your signature.

There is only one petition out there on the arena and that is the one from STOP. There is another fake group with money trying to help STOP. They are very deceptive and going to Kings games and events to collect unsuspecting fan signatures. Don't sign anything even if it sounds like it's pro-arena.

Good grief. Just when I thought they couldn't stoop any lower... I never cease to be amazed by the level of smarm to which some people can sink.

Quite frankly this is serious enough that you guys probably need to make a point at having CDT spotters or just somebody at these events trailing around these new petition gatherers and interrupting their pitches to tell people what they are really about. If a group like this grabbed 1000 signatures, I'd be willing to bet at least half the people would never know and recant. It could tip the whole thing their way.

I caught them on Sunday and they claimed to be pro-arena and said they had a petition to withdraw STOP's petition. The alarm bells should have went off then. This VFAD group is selling that they are pro-arena, they just want a better deal. Their signatures are going right into the STOP bundle. So they are pro-STOP all the way. I think they realized that they messed up with the Hansen involvement and this is their mulligan to get all the signatures they still need. The names are different, but they all are from the same anti-arena tree no matter how much they claim otherwise.

Before long, Crown Downtown will be adding to their list of lies on video from the STOP petition guys. They got a few days head start though.

Is there any legal step that can be taken? It seems just plain wrong (insert appropriate legalize) to misrepresent in such a fashion. This just can't be right. I would suggest getting as many of these signature gatherers on video in preparation for some kind of legal action. Everybody nowadays has a video camera in their phone so start filming and make sure there is an audio. I am flabbergasted. I'll translate that work if people wish.

And VF21: it is "smarm" and not "swarm." :) I have a few other words I could use but as this is a family friendly forum, I'll hold off. We simply cannot be screwed out of an arena with such behavior. Can we???? Why are they so desperate??? Is it worth lying?

At this point, this is fraud. Right? I say more power to 'em! Send out the lying signature gatherers, STOP! Because when you go to turn those signatures in, every single one of them will be rejected because of the outright fraud you are perpetrating on the public. I won't be shedding any tears over that turn of events, that's for sure.

I wonder if that is the case, though. Does it matter what they say or only what the form with the signatures says? Because they can say (for instance) the petition is for stopping folks from kicking puppies - does that have ANY bearing on the signatures themselves??? Or would the City just look at the signed forms without considering the gatherer's verbal input?

The petition is the same STOP language it's always been. That cannot be changed because the signatures are attached. Modify that document and they are done period. But they do have clever ways of talking you into signing and chances are people don't read them or understand.

Sunday at Kings event were our people. There were three that I know of as I met with them.

Last night was NOT our people. I have them on video along with pictures. I went Drill Sargent mode on them and scared the you know what out of them by simply asking questions (no threats).

Well, at least the Sacramento Bee doesn't have the comments sections running right now on the articles. I could only imagine how this topic would go over. ;)

VFAD is being funded by the non-union contractors that are angry about the union pact. However, they are using the exact same petition as the STOP folks. They are saying the just want a better arena deal, which is really just to trick people into signing.

What rally pisses me off, is if these non-union contractors help STOP, there is going to be no new deal for an arena, period. If no arena gets built, the union pact goes away, but then there will be no jobs at all, union or otherwise.

Its childish. Its a tantrum. "If I can't play, then were going to make sure no gets to play," kind of crap. Jeez, I am so tired of the lying and bulls**t.
