If Kings draft at #7, who should they take?

If Kings draft at #7 again, who should they take?

Assuming the Kings draft 7th again, and Wiggins, Embiid, Parker, Randle and Exum are gone, who do you think Kings will select?

Marcus Smart, PG Oklahoma St

Noah Vonleh, PF Indiana

Aaron Gordon, PF Arizona

Dario Saric, SF/PF Croatia

Doug McDermott, PF Creighton

Nik Stauskas, SG Michigan

Tyler Ennis, PG Syracuse
 
I voted Stauskas simply because I don't think Vonleh will be there at seven. But my top three are:

1. Vonleh
2. Stauskas
3. Gordon

Of the three, Stauskas currently is the most skilled, and like Gordon, he's capable of playing more than one position. I think he capable of playing all three wing positions, but SG is his best position at the moment. Can he play defense? That's the question.
 
If none of the top 5 slip down to 7 (man what I wouldn't give to be in 6th right now instead...) than I vote for trading the pick or trying to trade down for multiple picks. I don't like Vonleh, Smart, or Gordon for our team. I already posted this in the prospects forum, but after the top 5 the guys I actually like are Elfrid Payton and Clint Capela. If no trade can be made I'd probably just bite the bullet and draft one of them at 7 regardless. Somebody always gets picked much later than they should. Could be either of those guys, who knows. But I'm not going to waste my pick on anyone that I don't feel strongly about making a future part of the team.
 
I like Stauskas as the best pure shooter in the draft and as a true 6-6 SG who may also be able to do some PG backup. All offense and not much defense but he's not a starter but a point maker off the bench.
 
Aaron Gordon for me. That's a lot of talent, athleticism, and decent size for a guy with his skills (mostly defensive). He can guard guards on a switch. Weak side shot blocker. Hustles, unselfish. He's my pick at this point.

I like Smart and wouldn't be upset with him. Stauskus is intriguing for his offense, especially in the half court. Dark horse is KJ McDaniels.

front court players that can actually create on the block are valuable. see how OKC, Phoenix and other teams fare without them. *cough* vonleh *cough*

This 10x plus with Vonleh being 6'10 with a 7'4 wingspan he can easily play center when DMC is on the bench. Vonleh rarely got the ball this year so him being the 3 or 4 option wouldn't be a big deal.

So intriguing. The one guy I could see jumping up into the Top 4. He has some Chris Bosh comps, but he has a better body and can also play down low. People keep calling him raw, but when you look at the advanced statistics he was better than Julius Randle this year. I'm a fan.
 
I don't see the love for Stauskas regarding our situation, actually. No doubt, that he can be very good offensively, but we already have a SG, that can't play good defense (Ben) and I don't want to give up on him yet. Because of this, I just don't see a possibility of playing Ben and Stauskas together on the wing.

If Vonleh is there at#7, we HAVE to draft him! Still hoping for the Lottery ;)
 
Stauskas, because I doubt Vonleh is there at 7. And if they don't take Stauskas, I'm thinking McDermott or Hood. Based on what DA said about need for shooting, the need of this team to have deadly shooters around Cousins, and the non signing of Tyreke, I don't think they take a non-shooter, e.g. Smart or Gordon.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Vonleh go ahead of Randle. Then if somebody takes Smart in the top 6, Randle could be there for the Kings.
 
Who I want is different than who I think, but if Smart is happens to fall to #7, I am almost positive the Kings will draft him. With PDA being a BPA guy .. it would just be so similar to the McLemore situation to think anything different.

McLemore falls to us last season. We already have a upper level SG who is a restricted free agent. Kings let him go.

I think in both scenarios Evans and Thomas did / will get offered way above what the Kings are prepared to match, especially if Gay sticks around.

They viewed Evans a flawed SG because he couldn't shoot. They drafted the shooter. They view Thomas as a flawed PG because they want someone who is more pass oriented, bigger size, better defender ... Smart really is the only logical Thomas replacement that would make it OK to let Thomas go from a PR perspective. Smart or Lowry. Those are the only two players openly available this offseason who would be viewed as a real upgrade overThomas. With Smart, you are dealing with potential, obviously. And I don't think Lowry is coming here.

And I wouldn't be as against Smart as a lot of people here would be. In fact, I'd be much more worried about passing up Smart than I would have been about passing up on McLemore or Robinson the past two season, but that might have more to do with my view on McLemore and Robinson than anything else. I think this is a similar situation, though, where PDA will come out after the draft and do the whole "We didn't think he would be here!" thing.

If we pick Smart I think I could still sleep draft night, maybe about 2 hours but at least a little shut eye.
 
I think it would/should be:

1) Smart - I see a bit of Russel Westbrook in him.

2) Vonleh - Reminds me of a young Chris Bosh

3) Dark Horse: Kyle Anderson (UCLA) : Big 6'9" point guard. If PDA was trying to get the big and tall, pass first point guard with Grevis Vasquez last year, Anderson may be a target. Anderson is a more athletic version of Grevis. He is rising up the draft boards. Has a little bit of Penny Hardaway's game.

To me the Kings draft and the decision with Isaiah Thomas can't be intertwined. In my mind the Kings have ONE cornerstone and that is DeMarcus Cousins. Any player brought in should fit/compliment DMC but beyond that you go BPA regardless of whether IT and Gay walk or stay.

I'm just not on the Marcus Smart bandwagon. Statistically he isn't more of a distributor than IT. In their last season of college Smart took more shots (12.5 vs 12.1 per) and shot a lower percentage (42.2% vs 44.5% and just under 30% from 3 vs IT's 34.4%) while averaging fewer assists (4.8 vs 6.1). And my eyes tell me that Smart shoots too much for a guy with bad shot mechanics and poor shot selection. I like his defensive potential but the idea that a rookie Marcus Smart is going to come in and direct the Kings offense when he was a ball dominant scorer in college seems a stretch.

I'm hoping for some lottery luck so the Kings can grab Embiid. Failing that (or a top rated guy taking a Paul Pierce like tumble to #7) I suppose I'd be looking at Vonleh (who wouldn't be an upgrade on JT as a rookie) or Aaron Gordon (who will also take time to develop) but I think I might be more interested in the Kings trading the pick for more immediate help.

Interesting views. I don't see Westbrook at all in Smart. I see a stronger, less explosive/athletic Steve Francis. I've seen people comparing Smart to Tyreke Evans but Smart has nowhere near the handles that Evans did and does have. BTW, the guy that looks like a poor man's Westbrook to me is LaVine.

I've also seen the Vonleh/Bosh comparison but that doesn't jibe with me either. Bosh was leaner and much more athletic coming out of school. I'm not sure who I'd compare Vonleh to. He's a good shooter but has a real windup on his jumper. He has a big body hasn't learned how to really maximize it and he's got a high motor but isn't very athletic, especially in terms of quick twitch or getting off the floor. I like him but he's got some real quirks and is a ways off from being a regular contributor IMO.

I will be interested to see how Anderson fares in the NBA. He's not Penny Hardaway (Dante Exum might be that type of player with a couple years of seasoning - remember that Penny took over the starting PG spot after Skiles was traded his rookie year ands was averaging 21 & 7 his second year while Exum will need more time to develop) and he's not Lamar Odom either. Odom was much quicker and more athletic in his first years with the Clippers. Anderson is a talent but with his lack of athleticism and shooting I wonder if he can succeed playing off the ball. And if he DOES get the ball put in his hands I wonder how he'll deal with pressure from bigger, more athletic defenders.

1st amendment = freedom of speech if you didn't already know. this is a board for fans to communicate their ideas. when it is skewed because one believes differently, there is no freedom of speech. some may be okay with supporting that, i for one, am not.

You have to look at the post he was quoting. Gary said that Marcus Smart was going to be a stud and Big Cuz 15 apparently disagrees to the extent that he's going to put Gary's quote in his sig as a reminder.
