I have been thinking I know why we did not get expiring contracts it because Petrie knew even we got CWebb's salary off the books next year we would still be over the cap therefore not being able to sign anyone of value. I think he did this so we can trade the expiring contracts of Corliss and Skinner in the future when they have greater value as expiring contracts. I think Petrie is thinking a couple of moves ahead(sorry for the chess refrence) and sacrificing a piece to get in better position in the future

I doubt its that.

I think he wanted medium value pieces to combine in trades this summer. Bobby has a cheap contract, but Bobby + Thomas is a middling type deal. I've forogtten whether you can combine a signed and traded player with another, but Mobley + Skinner or whatever might do as well. Or Tag/Corliss/Peja or whatever. Try to nab major players by combining our middling guys with some of our talent.

Also if CAT doesn't stay a sign and trade with others packaged in is a possibility.
