Rookie, I read his post and not for a second did I get the same take you did. Whats the old saying, if the shoe fits. I don't think he intended in any way to point the finger at anyone, and by mentioning that he would still follow the team even though there are other fans that couldn't, wasn't said in a way as to impune those fans. And if you took it that way, maybe you should look inside and figure out why.
But I'll tell you what offends me. You took a beautiful thread started by a friend of mine and threw sour grapes on it. Everything in this world, and particularly on this fourm, isn't about you. Instead of picking a fight with someone that wasn't looking for a fight, why don't you instead give us your feelings on the Kings, and what they mean to you.
^^^Exactly what I was thinking. That was the Mona Lisa of KF posts by one of the (if not the) best writers here. Well done VF21, and I feel the same way, though admittedly, I have had a much shorter amount of time with the team thenthe fans here that I have come to respect so much (you know who you are). I don't consider anyone to be less of a fan for not following the team should they leave, after all I am sure for many it's an issue of souring on the NBA itself.
My best friend, and pretty much the reason I get into basketball as a little boy, talked about them going to Anaheim the whole car ride to the arena. He was fuming, saying how it makes no sense to move the franchise when there is most likely going to be a lockout. He vented frustrations about the Maloofs not spending on quality players for a better part of a decade. In the end, he said he would not support this franchise should it move to Anaheim.
He would have no ties to the team, but I think there is more at play. He, like many of us here just get sick to their stomach thinking about them leaving. And being a real basketball purist, I know for a fact he has soured on the NBA. Is it the same league where the Sacramento Kings exlenpified team basketball? Maybe not, but personally, I will support the team until that Armageddon sized asteroid comes hurtling toward us, and we launch Marcus Thornton at it in an effort to break it and half and miss my beloved team (and planet too I guess).
No fan is greater then another, and everyone has their own opinion, but as Baja has pointed out, let's not forget the true purpose ofthis thread. I don't want to say goodbye to my team either, I want my toddler son, and his children after him to take part in the same amazing experience as VladeFan and his family has. I want to grow old and grey and move to Mexico and be the authority on the fresh crop of college players. I want to convert my fiancé to Purpleism, and I want to grade players and do themes on my teams forum after games. It is so easy to dream, and so hard to except loss.
But I am glad to have my team, our team at present, and thankful I have all of you to talk to about it. Man I feel better, and despite the loss, last night was the best birthday ever. Now if you'll excuse me, I am going to eat a fat piece of cake and watch some Golden Years basketball on the DVR.
