I demand George Karl is fired

Can we just ****ing have a winning team for once with no drama strings attached? Jesus ****ing christ.

No sports franchise has gone through as much turmoil and dysfunction as this team has and that's saying something considering there are teams out there like the Raiders, Browns and Chicago Cubs. To be honest, I am surprised at the amount of fans that still remain but that amount is dwindling by the year it seems.

Just get Thibs. End this nonsense. Open your checkbook Vivek, and lets get this old-school show on the road. Fans will pay their fortunes to watch this team.

Can't wait to see Thibs run these guys into ground and buried them alive

@stevekylerNBA: Was told there is a chance the Kings parts ways with DeMarcus Cousins also a chance they part ways with George Karl - neither likely today

First guy to report that we could part with Karl.

Lol a all nba center who will dominate next 10 years vs a old coach who'll retire in 4-5. Hmmm decisions decisions

No idea if Kyler has any credibility, but I want to base absolutely clear that one of the reasons I have gone so big on Cousins' being traded is precisely to instill doubt and fear in those who would advocate such a ****up. And if any of that has shifted the dynamic far enough Karl himself is in play, then I want us to go after him and force a capitulation or removal if he will not give this up.

This is our franchise and our franchise player, not his. He needs to get with our program. if he wants to do so then we can all concentrate on trying to be one big happy franchise. If he does not, then he has to go. In fact I'll personally ship $100 to the front office to help cover his buyout. Maybe we can make it a facebook thing. :)

i just love these "reports." this writer "was told" something by someone!! perhaps his next door neighbor. perhaps his grandmother. perhaps the voices in his head. and what was he "told," exactly? that there is "a chance" the kings part ways with demarcus cousins, or that there is "a chance" the kings part ways with george karl!! wow!! what a revelation!! i mean, after this week's slate of boogie-related rumors, it would otherwise seem impossible that anyone could come to the conclusion that the kings might either trade demarcus cousins or fire george karl!! steve kyler must be some kinda sherlock holmesian genius to have figured that sh** out. there's just no way that this is more idle speculation about the exact same two scenarios that a hundred other sports "journalists" and bloggers and cut-rate media types have been reporting for the last 48 hours...

I can't believe this thing reached its goal already. $250 to send edible arrangements to George Karl and DeMarcus Cousins, addressed from each other.

It's not looking good for Karl, but who do you get to replace him. I would love Thibs, but would he come? I thought he wanted to take a year off and get back into next year? Jackson alienated everyone except his players in GS.

Getting rid of Karl seemingly would get everyone on the same track, at least for awhile. Getting rid of cousins wouldn't fix anything, if vivek really is angry with him, imo.

+1 Thibs or anyone that pays full price for a movie

I sure hope there is some language in Karl's contract to allow the Kings to fire him for reason and not be on the hook for the rest of his salary.

Would "Franchise Sabotage" qualify as reason to fire without pay?

the problem for the sacramento kings is that, for the few moves they've gotten right since the new regime took over, they've taken massive steps backward with the moves they've gotten wrong. hiring mike malone was the right move. hiring pete d'alessandro was the wrong move. hiring chris mullin was the wrong move. firing mike malone was the wrong move. promoting ty corbin beyond his "interim" tag just to fire him weeks later was the wrong move. hiring george karl without knowing if d'alessandro would remain gm was the wrong move. hiring vlade divac was the right move. [de facto] firing chris mullin was the right move. [de facto] firing pete d'alessandro was the right move. [proactively] firing george karl would be the "right move" here, but it would only serve to undo a series of mistakes that have set back the progress of this rebuild considerably, and have further tarnished the kings' reputation around the league...

mike malone received considerable criticism from kf.com leading up to and in the aftermath of his firing, some of it deserved and some of it overblown. in any case, i believe he was the right coach for this team at this time. in a couple of seasons, if malone was still unable to take the kings over the hump, then you go ahead and try to seek out a replacement that you more fully believe in, but only after enough growth had been accomplished and only after a new team identity had been established; you let malone work on cousins for awhile. you let him mold cousins into a winner and a leader. but by authorizing malone's firing, vivek was left with a half-formed boogie monster, so to speak, and right now, that monster is none too pleased. that said, you have to do the unpleasant thing; you fire george karl and accept the media savaging that awaits (as if the kings aren't already being laughed at hysterically by nba insiders)...

should the kings decide to fire karl, tom thibodeau is an intriguing possibility, if only because he and demarcus have an existing (and positive) relationship from their time together with team usa. perhaps thibs could work on big cuz in the same way that malone had started to work on cuz, and in doing so, perhaps he could earn cousins' trust. unfortunately, while i like the idea of thibodeau as the kings' head coach, i'm not fond of the potential for thibs to work on cousins past the breaking point that most players reach when being coached by thibodeau. boogie's already frustrated enough, and surely has to be evaluating a serious exit strategy from sacramento...

i don't know what coach the kings could realistically hire who would mesh well with cousins, instill strong defensive principles in this team without wearing them down completely, and successfully set the kings back on the winning path. and what kills me is they already had that guy. mike malone may not have eventually led the kings to the promised land, but i'd hardly call it a stretch to believe that, if he hadn't been fired, the kings would have been hailed at the end of the season as a surprise team of the western conference, rather than the perpetual punchline they've become in the wake of managerial incompetence so astounding that it might be years before the kings are respected enough again to place calls to free agents without being laughed off the line, or to convince top draft prospects that sacramento is worthy of a simple interview or workout...

rebuilds are a process for which there are few shortcuts if you aren't a glamorous media market like los angeles. development of rebuilding teams occurs incrementally; this last season, for example, was supposed to be the year when the kings scrapped their way back to relevance with mike malone and boogie cousins leading the way. and next season was supposed to be the year when the kings made a serious push into the playoffs. and the following seasons were supposed to be the years when the kings locked horns with other playoff contenders in a battle for western conference dominance. when chris mullin and pete d'alessandro colluded together in an effort to convince vivek ranadive that mike malone should be fired, they set the kings on a path of instability that they'll probably only be able to recover from by firing the head coach they literally just signed to a four-year contract, and replacing him with an absolute home-run-of-a-hire TBD...

It might be time to set things right. To finally heal some old wounds. There is one man who can handle this job and you won't have to worry about any issues with his franchise big. Vlade, time to call an old friend and see if any of that magic is still there.

I really doubt Karl will be moved. Enough of this drama crap already. The team needs stability at the HC position. So some feathers were ruffled. Work the damn thing out for crying out loud. Why would Ranadive tell the media and the world that he is "considering" firing Karl? Why add to the drama? What's the angle? The Kings FO needs to be more professional.

It does need stability at the HC position. But that's why this needs to be settled now, one way or the other. If something did need to be done you do it now, while a change causes minimal disruption, new coach has time to put together a staff, you get a full camp top work on his schemes etc. The very worst thing you could do is go into the season with this war going on, and reach a point a few months on where you either lose your franchise player or have to fire another coach midseason. Enough of that. Gotta anticipate and react before things come to a head, if you think they will.

Perhaps Vivek and Vlade wanted to play the media card right back at Karl, except they went right to the gut about possible contract termination. They may have done this to prove a point. One, it's not a pleasant feeling finding out your GM/owner want to fire you by reading blurbs on ESPN and second, that they also can "leak" things out and make it just as unpleasant for Karl as he has been making it for them. Karl must know he's got only a few seasons left in him, and thats a big question mark. He can't afford to be fired because he will never get another head coaching gig again. Not one team wanted him. He would be finished. Does he want to end his career like this? Regardless of what is going on between the two parties, the differences have to be resolved either through reconciliation or termination/trade. We are a circus anyway, but if you fire Karl, a quick replacement has to be found and I would love for it to be Thibs. Cousins knows him, he has proven himself, and he is a defensive coach.

What I don't understand is why Karl openly lobbied to coach the Kings and then turn on it's franchise player???
DMC was the only thing that made the Kings job appealing, yet you want to trade him???
Once Karl got a contract, he wanted DMC out? WTF?

I don't understand how the front office could fail so badly in their recruitment process this spring. What else did they even need to discuss except how Karl plans to work together with Cousins? Why hire him if there was any doubt? The only way it makes sense is if General Secretary Alessandrov was still holding the strings on the other side of the table. He sensed that his time was coming to an end but managed to hire Karl as a last gesture of sabotage to the Kings organization.

If we assume reports about Karl wanting DMC out are correct (I'm not convinced they are) the main question to ask would be: Why?
Karl has just a huge ego and wants to rebuild his Nuggets team is not really convincing.
Why would a seasoned coach pass on his best chance to get into the playoffs?
Cousins is a willing passer and played any role the coach demanded in the past. The moment he started winning all his usual antics on the court where no deal at all.
I just don't get it. No coach with his mind straight would pass on coaching one of the Top 3 big guys in the league.

I suspect there was no doubt about Karl's commitment to Boogie in the interview.

Job interviews are extended lying sessions. Malone got the Denver job promoting up tempo basketball.

You do what you have to do. Karl also sent a nice note to Orlando Magic fans. He would have said anything to get the job.

You really have to wonder about a guy, who, if reports are true, doesn't want the best big man in basketball. The team is better with Boogie than without. Karl had to go into this knowing it was Boogie or bust.

It makes the reports rather unbelievable honestly when you come off the ledge and really think about it. But there was something going on for sure.

This is Karl's last run. Playing Devil's Advocate, if he's going for wins, he wants to do it as efficiently as possible. Short term over long term goals. To that effect, he wants players who already play the way he wants to play.
To maximize Boogie's talents, that might not be the way to play, so, it would be easier to move him than to plan around his talents.

Do I personally believe that to be true? Tough to say. I'm on the fence. I think he can win, and win big, if he goes Seattle George vs. Denver George. I think our roster is closer to the former versus the latter.
