I agree with Chad Ford on Rubio v. Jennings

Do u think that Jennings is better than Rubio?

Chad Ford
Totally different players ... and no. Rubio is a true point guard who sees the floor and makes everyone around him better. Jennings is more in the mold of Allen Iverson -- a super quick guard who thrives at penetrating and creating his own shot. Rubio can score a little and Jennings can pass a little ... but they are totally different and at the end of the day finding guys like Rubio are a lot harder than finding guys like Jennings. And let's not forget, while Jennings was hyping his one-on-one matchup with Rubio ... Rubio was just coming back from a major injury. Look at their season at the end and it was Rubio, not Jennings, that was putting up the numbers in Europe.

Jennings can pass a little? Sounds to me like Ford just saw Jennings play for Rome a couple times and thinks he's some kind of combo guard. He was setting assist records in high school. He's easily a better passing PG than anybody in last year's draft (Rose, Mayo, Westbrook, Bayless, etc.)

Jennings is a good passer, not on Rubio's level, but better than Iverson. The big difference between them is that Rubio is much more intelligent, disciplined and mature than Jennings. He makes better decisions and knows how to get his teammates involved. Jennings does not know how to run an offense at this point, Rubio however does.

Ford is way off on his analysis of Jennings. He is a floor general and a willing (and very good) passer NOT a "combo" guard. My question is whether he has his head on straight and is committed to becoming a great player. After that I worry about his strength and ability to both put on weight and avoid injury. But the idea that he's in the Allen Iverson mold is ridiculous. Ford shows time and time again that he's one of the least knowledgeable "experts" out there.

Actually part of his problem is that he does play like he thinks he's Iverson at times. While he does have very good passing and vision, so did Marbury but yet he didn't have the grey matter to know how to run an offense. Until Jennings learns to drop the attitude, the ego, and learn to play the game the right way he's headed down the Marbury/Iverson PG path, except not as skilled as them.

Iverson never made any pretense of being a true PG, not an apt comparison. Marbury is a better comparison for a number of reasons, chief among them that he had the natural skills but never lived up to his potential because he didn't "get it". THAT is the fear I have of Jennings. Unlike Iverson, he does have the skill set to be a true PG (and a very good one IMO) but only time will tell if he has it between the ears.
