This might sound completely crazy, but we are looking for a big man to help out JT and Spencer, and since teams aren't going to just hand us proven quality big man, and since this year is all about rebuilding and experimenting with players with potential for us, maybe... just maybe... we can take a gamble and bring in Darko Milicic and his expiring contract. NY will probably take anything we offer them, as long as we throw in some of last night's leftover peperoni from our pizza...

Now, before you try to have me institutionalized, think about this: Darko is probably the biggest bust of the decade, but at some point a lot of people saw great potential in him. It seems to me that we have the ultimate coach to bring out this potential in any player, if it indeed exists. Like I said, we need a big man anyway, and we aren't getting Dwight Howard anytime soon (doubt that we can get Okafor either), why not try this? If it works and he actually makes a difference in the paint for us, awesome! If not, his contract expires at the end of this season anyway. Not that much harm done.

What do you guys think?

Its been suggested several times on this board -- the biggest problem beign that he is an ender, and the Knicks are holding onto all their enders like gold in hopes of nabbing Lebron and another superstar to be names later and doing the insto rebuild. So only way you could get him would be to offer an ender back -- people have suggested KT, but why would New York do that? Or alternatively take a bunch fo their awful contracts. But again, unless oyu had enders to match those awful contracts wiht don't know how much advanatge the Knicks would consider that.

I also suggested this trade in another thread some time ago. It wasn't well recieved, so I suspect it won't be again. The thing with Darko is that he's still young, and had a reputation as a shotblocker at one time. One problem is that if we were to trade for him and he did fit into the scheme of things, it might be hard to resign him. He's stated that he's definitely going back to europe so he can actually play. He made the statement that everybody in the NBA lies and he'll never trust another GM. He said every team he's played on has promised him playing time and it hasn't happened. He doesn't think that he's ever been given a fair chance.

Now how much of what he says is true, is up for grabs. He could be one big bust, or he just could have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Plus getting him wouldn't be easy. The Knicks aren't about to take on more salary, and he's an expiring. So whats their incentive to trade him?

On June 25, 2009, Miličić was traded to the New York Knicks for Quentin Richardson and cash considerations.[8] On December 17, 2009 Miličić said that he plans to leave the NBA and return to playing basketball in Europe next season.

He's checked out. He's an alright defensive player, but his mental is all jacked up.

I don't know, we're this close to being done with the rebuild. It seems like we'd be putting him on then tossing him away. There has to be a reason that he bombed. I think it would be a little cruel to him, actually.

I wouldn't be opposed to outright signing him in the off season, provided it wasn't for an outrageous amount of money or long contract. I think people are pretty much over his potential at this point, myself included, though he's almost certainly headed back to Europe, which is probably best for him at this point. It's probably best for us to try and pick up an extra pick and nabbing a couple of the big men in the upcoming draft and hoping one of them pans out, to be honest.

Yea, I've read all those things that he said, that's actually why I thought about this. Who better than coach Westphal to take a player who has potential but seems lost and give him a new sense of direction? PW so far seems to have a magical ability to give everyone on the roster enough minutes to keep them motivated, and has shown a great ability to help players bounce back from slumps. If this actually works and Darko finds himself in a team where he is actually happy and productive for the first time in his career, I'm thinking he's going to want to stay, so I doubt it'll be hard to resign him.

As for the Knicks, they don't have much incentive to trade, but also not much incentive not to trade. They're basically paying him to sit and sulk at the end of the bench. I'm thinking they would probably take KT, just because his contract is also expiring and he can't possibly contribute to them less than what Darko is doing right now. Perhaps we could throw in Udoka as well if they want?

I don't think Udoka can be traded until Feb 3rd.

Only way to do this is Darko for KT straight up. I don't think it's worth the price we'd have to pay at all really.
