How does one encourage our legislative representatives to accept the convergence plan

I have been following this arena talk and it sounds like it is more or less in the hands of the California Legislature... who is voting on this? Whcih representatives do I call and encourage to support this? Should a rally outside of the capital be organized?

Never really explored these options before, but if we, the fans, can help keep the Kings in Sacramento, shouldn't we?

Still, they can not believe that the public will just sit idly by and accept a "no" just because doing nothing is the easy thing to do. If we gotta rally I'm down.

That's what I am saying... imagine if a rally swayed 1 vote in the legislature... could be the swing vote. Why sit idly by and let the Legislature decide the fate of our beloved Kings and Sacramento's future economy? Let's take it to them hard!

So I am writing to my representatives and how does this sound; are there any more specific details to include? Also, if anyone wants to use this as copy paste, once completed, please do.

Dear <representative>,
I am writing about the "Convergence" plan in Sacramento that is due to go before the California State legislature. Legislative approval of a land swap will allow Sacramento to build a new sports and entertainment complex in the downtown Sacramento Railyards. Please support this measure; a new sports and entertainment complex would be great for the greater Sacramento area economy. Also, if the Sacramento Kings leave Sacramento, there will be a massive loss of jobs not only within the Sacramento Kings organization, but numerous jobs in economic sectors that profit from the interest and tourism created by having a professional sports team in Northern California. Thank you for supporting jobs in Northern California by supporting the "Convergence" land swap.

That looks good and serves its purpose. but I would not be averse to tugging at their heart strings somehow. You should probably include something about the kids, how you grew up loving the Kings, how the fair was cool but you want it upgraded etc...

A "no" vote on the Arena by them = a "no" vote from each Sacramento Kings fans on their election.

I will be very disappointed by our legilative representatives if the Kings move because they can't get the Arena deal done. While I'm no longer living in Sacramento county, I still have plenty of relatives there that I have influence over.

What are the arguments against the convergence plan (or at least the arguments that "no" voters will use as the basis for their vote)?

If there was one or two overriding arguments, then I might add something challenging those (somewhat discreetly) within the text of the message.

Here is the fundamental flaw in hoping the legislature votes for the convergence plan.

The legislature represents the entire state but Sacramento representatives are only a small faction of it. It's a no-brainier that the Sacramento area representatives will vote for it, but what incentive do bay area and LA representatives have to vote for it? If anything, they have an incentive to purposely derail the project by voting against it. They have no loyalty to this area and in fact bay area and LA people look down on us. They are probably foaming at the mouth to stick another knife in our back.

The legislature should not be in charge of the destiny of Sacramento (and yes, if the convergence plan goes through it will fundamentally change the region) when the majority of them have absolutely no stake in the matter.

I agree, but we should shoot off some e-mails anyway, at least. Here is a list of all CA zip codes:

And here is that politician finder that Larry David put up again:

Use the zip codes to find big timers in big cities that you believe could help our cause. Just start pumping out e-mails or whatever you feel will grab their attention. I've already started.
