How do you feel about the Lakers game?

So you're a fan of the players, not the team. Let me get this straight. If for some strange reason, all your players became Lakers, you'd be a Laker fan?

thats not what he was saying. i know, because i feel the same way. we love all our guys as a whole.. but speaking for myself as a fan, if not for bibby i would have never known basketball. i hated it until that ONE game i was forced to watch when the kings played and bibby threw it down. i am a kings fan, but i have my favorite players that i will stay loyal too as well. i doubt anyone was trying to prove a point here.

Exactly Kingfan25, that's pretty much how I started to like basketball, because of Mike. I'd never been interested until I saw him play, and now I'm obsessed.

Yes, I would be a Lakers fan if all my guys were on the team. Even though it isn't going to happen, I admit it, and I would still be as happy as I am as a Kings fan.:D

I totally agree with you! i love the team but my most favorite player is bibby. if he left i would probably follow him. but that doesn't mean that i still wuldn't like the kings! i just wouldn't like them as much cuz they didn't have him. and well frankly, they wouldn't be as good with out him!:p :)

your right. i know that i haven't been a fan for a whole long time but bibby is so my favorite player. i love him and if he went back with the grizzlies then i wuold follow him.so yea. i totally agree with you!:D

god!! that's purdy harsh!! i know that kobe is on our biggest rivalry team, but he is a very good player. he is one of the best players on the lakers team. i know that if he were on our team it would be really strange and i don't think that he would fit in very well either. especially at arco!!!:D

you are right. they are not the team that they used to be and they never will be taht team again!i don't exactly wut it is that they lost except for Shaq! but personally i don't think that shaq is a very goo player! but that i sjust me. other ppl might think differently. i just don't think that him being gone should affect the lakers so much. but i guess it has hit them hard. and i still am amazed at how hard it has hit them and i don't even know why!

It was just such a great moment in the series because the team all came together for Mike.

I may like them, it just depends if the attachment to the new players is there.

Here's a question for you.....

If shaq, Kobe, Horry, Fisher, and all the LA players from three years ago became Kings, would you still be a Kings fan?
 
I have been a Kings fan since 1985. I have seen a lot of players come and go. You're taking an example to the extreme to try and prove I would change?

The entire Laker team would not/could not/did not become Kings.

I'll illustrate.

Let's say you ask me this question: Batman comes to life and decides he hates Superman. Who would win in a battle to the death?

My reply is that Batman (a comic figure) would not/could not/did not come to life and battle against Superman (another comic figure).

To me, the two questions are both equal in relevancy.

It is really VERY BASIC for me and a lot of other people on this board who aren't simply player fans.

It is - to repeat a common refrain - about the name on the FRONT and not the name on the back.
 
Or, to state another way, I love basketball. My favorite basketball team is the Sacramento Kings. I do not currently have a favorite player on the Sacramento Kings. I was, am and will be a fan of Vlade Divac, regardless of the team he plays on, but I will not root for him if/when he plays against the Kings. This was true before he came here and it's true now. The same goes for Dirk Nowitzki. I like watching him play. He brings talent AND grit to the game. There are other players I also like to a varying degree. The one constant about them is I do NOT root for them when they play against the Kings. The purple is in the blood...

My use of extreme unrealistic example is just repeating what someone asked me about ALL my players going to the Lakers, and I said yes, even though it wouldn't happen. That's just how I feel about the current team.
 
Well I AM a kingsfan, so there's no problem, even if being a fan would be temporary. Don't get me wrong, I will ALWAYS like the team to a certain degree I'm just saying, it would never be the same without the the current guys. All the emotion and friendship would be gone. I feel like I know every one of them and I've never met them before. I just have a strong connection with the players, so much that I am more likely to follow them than this team franchise.

You could always grow new feelings for new players, then I guess you'll be stuck here a little longer won't you ;)

Like Pedja for example, everyone wanted John Wallace at first but no one but John Wallace's mama loves him now.

Exactly, and like with Brad. I loved Hedo, but Brad is such a great player, that I'm fine now, I even like him better than Hedo.

Hopefully that will happen with every dramatic change, and hopefully Bibby will stay with the Kings for a REALLY long time, because I don't think I could cope with that change so easily.:D

I love being a Kings fan, I want to be one forever.
 
Ah ha - I think you're a team fan and you just haven't faced it yet!

Back in the beginning, I kept saying I was just a Reggie Theus fan. I didn't really care about any of the others, I said, and I'm not that fond of the team...

Well, it's been 20 years.

hehe, maybe so, I'll just love a few other teams too, those with familiar names on the backs of their jerseys.:D

I agree with this, almost all kings fan hate the Pups because they defeated the kings last year! And also the mavs couple years ago because kings lost that year..

Well, me, i only hated the lakers in '00 to '03! I don't hate the Wolves or the Mavs. They are a great team, and they were better than the kings that year. I only hate teams that are rivalry to the kings and that would be the lakers.

Now, i'm looking for a next rivalry! And to me Wolves will not be the next.....
