how do you deal with it?

Didn't you get the memo, KG? If Adelman hadn't so obviously held the team back and purposefully caused all those mysterious ailments and injuries, we'd be polishing multiple little copies of the O'Brien trophy...

;)

4 more years of 50+ win teams, and Rick passes Red Aurebach. Unfortunately I think its likely he leaves us at season's end, so may not happen for us.

At about the 12th year, you realize that those things are part of about 25 teams' seasons. Marathon. Only the special teams don't experience that stuff.

Naaah...Ill take a different coach. I think its worth a try.

You've wanted a different coach for a long time. At this point, the future success or failure of the team is NOT going to be because of the coach, regardless of whether it's Adelman or someone new. Sure, Adelman will most likely take the blame and get the axe if things don't go right, but you cannot honestly say it's his fault for what we see right now... The team has been decimated. Any success Adelman can pull from what we're seeing right now will most likely be taken for granted by way too many people. And any failures by the team will undoubtedly be put at Adelman's feet.

Enjoy the elite years while they're still a recent memory. Without Adelman, we might not have had them at all - and once he's gone, it could be a long time before we see the term "elite" used to describe the Kings again.

Hey...there's worse things than being a Laker fan. You coul be a Hawks fan. ;)
At least we've got 14 titles to look back on fondly...and I've been there for 9 of them. :D

The ones who remember all 14 are fertilizing daffodils now. ;)

Great topic! I've been a King’s fan for just over 10 years now, with the past 5 years being the hardest, but again at the same time most rewarding. Each year I tell myself I’m going to take a step back and enjoy it, but it seems to be getting worse and worse each year.

I take the loses and injuries pretty hard, but in the end (after 2-3 hours of pouting) I always remind myself, I did what I could, I cheered (mostly yelling) as loud as I could.

Wait?!?!?!

You didn't paint yourself purple before every game? You didn't have KINGS carved into your hair?

Dude, it is so obvious...It's ALL YOUR FAULT!!!!!

:D

We also memorize and chant the mantra

"THERE IS ALWAYS NEXT SEASON!"

However, I am a glutton for pain and suffering, so I still hold onto "It could happen!"

Trust me VF21, if I had hair it would be purple :) But I promised myself I would never paint my face, just can't do it. Now if we make the finals, ask me then if I painted my face purple (man I hope I still say I didn't but something tells me I prob. would)

If we make the finals, the only people who will be embarrassed might well be those whose faces AREN'T purple.

:D

All this Adelman smack is starting to remind me of that BLAME FINLEY thread we have going!! Perhaps it should be changed or added to 'BLAME ADELMAN'...

But anyway, going back the OT, this is the way I look at it. Sure it's disappointing and frustrating, but in the scheme of things: it's just a game. It's not your whole life. Let the coaches, Maloofs, administrators, players be the ones who go to pieces over the negativities of the team. It's THEIR whole life after all!

Have to admit it. I do have my mood go up and down, but I am not a fairweather fan. You just enjoy what you can and live with hope. And I will always cheer for my team. I always figure it's when things aren't going so well that the team needs my encouragement the most. When things are going badly they can't just walk off the court and I'm not going to leave them out there all alone, thinking no one cares.

I think there's someone on CL who's been a fan since the Minneapolis days. He went to MN Laker games with his dad in the 50's.

I just think it could be worse I could be a hawks fan, throw some stuff, ring my bell louder and hope for better next game.
It's way too early for the sky to be falling but I'm sure it will another 800 times before the season's over.;)

Those of us who were around for the "before" years have tried repeatedly to tell people to make sure they enjoy every minute of the good years, because they won't last forever.

Keep one thing in mind: No matter how bad it gets out there right now, we have lived through and survived worse.

Basically, my advice would be:

1. Quit trying so hard to spot problems. If there's a real team chemistry issue, you'll know soon enough. Trying to spot one before hand just means a lot of aggravation and nothing you can confirm anyway.

2. If you're a fan of a certain style of play - and not necessarily a Kings fan to the bone - you might actually have to consider looking elsewhere. The Kings this year may end up bearing little or no resemblance to the team you first started following.

3. Give them a chance to crawl before they walk, and walk before they run. Face the fact that the 2005-2006 Kings are, most likely, NOT going to surprise us all and win the O'Brien trophy. Could it happen? Well, yes. Will it happen? I'm sure not going to bank on it. This is a team trying to redefine themselves, and it ain't over yet. If Peja walks at the end of the year, the whole tone, style and focus of the team could well change...

4. Instead of watching for perfection, watch for improvement.

5. Keep a sense of humor. Don't take everything so seriously that you can't find something to laugh or smile about. I could tell you some of the things Kingsgurl and I use, but then everyone would know how really bizarre long-term Kings fans can be. ;)

6. CHEER for the team. Anybody can cheer when they're doing good. You have to be able to reach way down inside and continue to encourage and support them through the though times, too.

I love this team. I did way back and I will as long as there is a Sacramento Kings to root for. That means I've dealt with disappointment, I've dealt with the ride of my life, and now I'm dealing - with the help of my fellow "veteran" Kings fans - with uncertainty and borderline chaos.

Being a Kings fan ain't easy; this is a season that will truly separate the wheat from the chaff.

GO KINGS!!!!!

Can we get a sticky on this?
