How do you know people "have got this all wrong"? Sorry, but I firmly believe there are way too many warning signs to ignore. The potential for disaster is simply not worth it to a team that is trying desperately to rebuild and go forward.

There are warning signs with a lot of players today.. Don't forget we had one for our top pick this year which imo was very serious even though he never got charged with anything.. Normally you don't put yourself in a car as the driver when someone in the car with you murders someone. Just doesn't happen much irl.

Lots of players go through depression, and you can definitely tell with their play and demeanor. I would take a chance on Beasley.. He's a pretty damn good talent and is only 20.

Just my opinion, but i think the whole ordeal is getting blown out of purportion a little. Chances are that he got caught smoking weed, started smoking less weed, and got ordered by the miami heat to attend a rehab program. Mind you Miami is very strict in dealing with their players. I think Beasley has tremendous upside and he just needs to mature a little is all. Like i said before, id trade anyone not named Thompson, Martin, or Evans for him.

Well, yeah, but I also remember Chris Webber. If all we were talking about was smoking weed, that would USUALLY only be a worry if he managed to get himself suspended for it. But we're talking about someone who seems to have everything going for him -- being young, healthy, rich and famous -- and yet he's seriously depressed. That makes me wonder whether any drug-related stuff were an attempt at self-medication, rather than the equivalent of a couple of beers after work. And, for me, that DOES set the alarms off. I've seen too many people go off the deep end that way, and, while none of them ended up dying of overdoses, some spent years in mental institutions, or committed suicide. There are NO street drugs which are effective at treating depression, or any other psychiatric sort of issue.

He doesn't fill any major need on our roster, so I see no reason to try to pick him up at fire sale prices while he's still on fire. Pass.

I'm certainly not an expert on street drugs. What I do know is that street drugs can increase depression. While they will temporarily take you away from all thats troubling you, those problems remain when you return from your temporary illusion. And in many cases, those problems appear even worse than before, and increase the depression.

From what I read, this is a league mandate, not Miami's. He aparently flunked a drug test from the league. He was put into the rehab program and violated that program. At that point, the rehab went from walk in to locked in with the understanding that if he left or violated this program, he wouldn't be allowed to play.

If it's just marijuana that Beasley was messing with, I have absolutely no problem with that. It's not a dangerous nor addicting "drug". Of course, I wouldn't want a player on my team blazing chronic during the season or anything like that, but I would definitely take a chance with Beasley if that's all he's smoked.

Weed isn't nearly as bad as some of the other things athletes mess around with... Weed has been tested thousands of times-- and that's just BY ME ALONE.

This is the last thing I'll say on this subject. My friend started with pot. The problem is that he had an addictive personality. So unfortuantely what might apply to you, might not apply to someone else. You can get addicted to icecream. Its just that some things are more addictive than others. And more dangerous than others.

Well I have personal experience with multiple family members who are addicts of one kind or another, in my ex-husband's family.

MJ is far from harmless to a genetically and/or emotionally addictive personality. As studies accumulate, its pretty clear that it's not without harmful physical effects either and there is now clear evidence that their are physical withdrawal symptoms. Tha'ts the definition of physical addiction.

I'm not in favor of its being illegal, but I'm not blind to consequences of its use. I also have personal experience with the scourge of alcoholism and tobacco addiction, too. Yet they are legal.

Young Beasley may well have been self-medicating a chronic depression problem. Unfortunately, many people with mental illnesses do this, becasue they can't or won't get appropriate mental health care.

I'll leave the discussion of chronic depression and marijuana use to the side for now. Personally, I'm in favor of taking a chance on Beasley, especially if we could get him for two players I could do without (Noc and Beno) as Brick suggested. Although I think that's unlikely; a deal involving K9's expiring seems more plausable if nothing else.

If we were to add Beasley without compromising our core (which I agree, giving up one of JT/Hawes/'Reke/K-mart isn't worth it) and he can continue his transition to SF (also a huge question mark) we'd have a starting five consisting of our 26-year-old leading scorer and four promising lottory picks all from the last three years. That's a solid, young and exciting foundation for the rebuild, plus all of those guys except K-Mart are still on their rookie contracts.

Yes, there are a lot of red flags and question marks and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't concerning or that I'd even blame our FO for passing if Beasley was offered. But overall, seems to be a low cost/high reward gamble and I'm all for swinging for the fences on those.

C - Hawes ( 7' 0" )
PF - Thompson ( 6' 11" )
SF - Beasley ( 6' 9" )
SG - Martin ( 6' 7" )
PG - Evans ( 6' 5" )

Now, that is an awesome starting line-up for the future Championship-contending Kings team if they all develop nicely and ASAP.
