The one right move the Maloofs could make right now, reviving more interest around a normally moribound franchise. Walton is nationally renown, and makes the games entertaining even if they shouldn't be, and would put Kings games on the map for people watching on the league pass. Reynolds, while a Kings franchise staple, really doesn't add much insight and typically serves to just volly off of Napear. I guess the only issue with this is whether or not Walton is healthy enough or has the interest to make such a commitment

Waltons health won't allow it. He does a handful of home games and the LA games.

Isn't this what stuck us with Jim Gray?

Bill Walton was a great player, but if I never hear him on a Kings broadcast again, it will be too soon. Sorry!

Nah man i love Jerry! I don't hate Walton though like everyone seems to, but once every few weeks is MORE than enough.

Tell you what, why don't you go to school/work Monday monring wearing a big round red nose, white makeup, and spiked pink hair. That will revive intrest in you in much the same way you are suggesting the Kings revive interest in themselves.

Walton is a clown. If he ever becomes the Kings permanent color guy I am gong to buy tickets a few rows back and bean his stupid *** with fruit. Not rotten fruit either. I'm going with unripened. I want it to hurt.

Agreed. I can't stand to listen to him drone on and on. He has a nice voice, but the crap he says is just stupid.

Wow. Why so much hate? The guy is passionate about the game of basketball and is an extremely positive person which helps neutralize Grant who is one of the most negative people on the planet. Yeah, he can get a little goofy at times but his knowledge of basketball is 100x that of Jerry who still doesn't understand that it's "height" and not "heighth."

Because he is PAINFUL to listen to? He rambles on and on with meaningless BS. For instance, he said of DMC that he couldn't pass and Grant said, um, he has 4 assists already in this game. He also said that DMC is not an elite rebounder, when he is one of the top rebounder in the league. He just doesn't know what he is talking about.

I like his voice. He is an eloquent speaker. He just doesn't shut up and I don't think he is actually watching the game he is talking about.

I like Jerry on the TV. Yeah, he's a country bumpkin, but at least he knows the team and speaks pretty intelligently about what is going on.

Jerry says clueless things all the time. So does Walton. The difference is that Jerry believes in the dumb things he says. Most of the idiocy from Walton is just rambling nonsense that is mostly self-aware schtick.

Walton may be a bit of clown, but he makes me laugh. It has not been often that I smile during Kings games this year so I like it.

Bill Walton has earned the right to make comments. Some of what he says is for effect, some is sarcasm and some is very insightful. He makes you work to tell the difference. He is a commentator for true ball fans. He will never take a regular job so relax. He talks too much, but he knows it. I find him to be hysterically funny.

Napear and Reynolds do a creditable job. You would like them much better if the Kings would have won 30 games this year.

WALTON IS RUBBISH. STRAIGHT RUBBISH. HIS COMMENTARY WAS THE ONLY DOWNSIDE IN TONIGHTS WIN.

Everything from his critique of cousins to how we play cant stand him and the fact he loves the lakers so much

I enjoy Walton being out there when our team sucks because he tells it like it is. Grant and Jerry sugarcoat everything while Walton is the only one that'll sit there and say that the Kings are uninspired, lazy and mentally weak. It's nice to hear someone on TV telling the truth.

The downside is when your team is doing well, Walton will still be out there nitpicking at every little thing.

Jerry and Grant are two of the most fair announcers in the league. If you don't believe me, try listening to some of the other announcing teams around the league. Anyone that thinks Reynolds doesn't know what he's talking about is an idiot. He's been a part of professional basketball for 50 years. He's been a head coach in the NBA. I've been lucky enough to have sat down with him on a few occasions and talked basketball. The man is a wealth of knowledge. He may appear as a country bumpkin on the broadcasts, but thats just Jerry trying to be intertaining. And personally, I think he does a good job of seperating his entertaining side from his professional side. He's a lot tougher guy in person.

As for Grant, if you separate his TV broadcasts from his radio broadcasts, there's a distinct difference. On his radio show he can be quite negative and abrasive, but on TV, he's an entirely different personality. He'll be critical of our players if needed and he'll praise our players if deserved.

Walton drives me almost insane. I tend to be a logical person, and when someone spews out crap, thats not based on anything other than pure BS, I start to tune out big time. There were moments last night when I thought Walton wanted to have sex with Ray Allen. I mean my god, enough already! We get it, the Celtics are sitting on the right hand of god, and should be worshiped forever. Thompson is in the running as one of the best PF's in the NBA. Cousins can't rebound. Thornton never passes the ball, but somehow had 4 assists at the time of the statement. Thornton is out of control. Thornton is the best player on the floor. Wait, Thompson is the best player on the floor. Allen and Pierce are a couple of the hardest working players in the league. Garnett doesn't join them in the workouts. But no one denys his dedication, just look at the dedicated look on his face. This man spews out more crap than anyone I know that was a national announcer. Almost none of based on facts.

And for the one extreme or the other folks, none of this means I hate Bill Walton. I just don't like listening to him, and will turn off the volume on the next game he broadcasts.

I think that to be fair, we have to admit that anyone who announces for the Kings has had a very tough job over the past several years. Trying to be entertaining when you are announcing bad basketball can't be easy.

On top of that, now Grant has to say "The European Wax Center, the ultimate wax experience" each night. I mean, even if you don't like the guy, no self-respecting man should have to say that on TV.

I have, and I don't agree with a word of that first sentence. I'd be willing to bet even money that I've listened to more NBA games called by non-Kings announcers than anyone else around here, over the last decade, and Reynolds and Napear are not two of the most fair announcers in the league; even MacDonald and Lantz tend to be more even-handed.

I consider neutrality to be a better indicator of "fairness" than whether the announcers are being critical of the home team. Reynolds and Napear, relative to other announcers, in my opinion, are rarely critical, and even less often neutral. When the Kings are getting pounded, it seems much more likely that you'll hear Reynolds and Napear pontificate on what the Kings are doing poorly than what the other team is doing well.

Wow, lots of passionate pros and cons on the Bill Walton issue. The thing is, for me at least, is that I can't rid myself of some deep negative sentiments of the man. If you are around during our golden years when we were having hotly contested playoff series with the Lakers Bill Walton was always on the TV microphones bad mouthing our Sacramento Kings. You know, it's been so long ago I can't remember the exact words Walton would use in describing our players and our team. There were three people that always seem to badmouth our city and our team. Coach Phil Jackson calling Sacramento a Cowtown, Shaquille O'Neal calling the Sacramento Kings on national TV “The Sacramento Queens”and X Laker player Walton who enhanced the name of ”Homer” with this telecast commentary. If you were around during that time, especially the year when we should have won the NBA championship you might, just might feel differently. I admit I have been tainted and some things are hard to let go. As far as Jerry Reynolds is concerned I always cut him a little slack because, he was once the head coach of the Sacramento Kings and has been with the organization for decades. He attends many or all the Sacramento Kings practices and knows basketball at its core. I've never heard anyone who can say something about every college basketball team and their coaches and players as well as Jerry. His current job is to be the one to quickly fill in comment during the broadcasts.
