The New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets announced today that they have waived forward George Lynch.

"Coming to an agreement with George allows us to carry an extra player on the roster and allows him to pursue an opportunity with another team this season" said Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower. "We wish him the best of luck."

Lynch played in 248 games with the Hornets from 2001-2005, averaging 4.3 points and 4.1 rebounds. He averaged 3.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in 44 games in 2004-05 and had not appeared with the team during the 2005 preseason. _____

interesting that bricklayer mentioned trading thomas/williamson for pj brown/lynch...

would lynch still be worth getting via FA? or is it way too packed in that position?

EDITED: for bricklayer's sake :P

That was me that mentioned that trade. ;)

And with Cisco now apparently being played at SF, we're too crowded there to just add him. Really need a trade to clear out some of our random bodies in order to make room for anymore.

Look for him to wind up in NY and to perhaps be the impetus for a move involving Matt Barnes.

Matt? Almost has no trade value and any team could have had him just a few weeks ago. Doubt he'd be more than a throw in for somebody. Besides they like him so far.

Him coming here of course makes sense with Larry in town for the week, but he's also getting up there and would like to play for a contender, which the Knicks are not.

I would take Lynch. Guy plays defense and does the dirty work even though he is a little long in the tooth.

On another front, Rodney White was waived by the Clippers so he would fit into our shoot first no defense philosophy :D

Lynch has interest in Knicks

BY FRANK ISOLA
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

The agent for George Lynch said yesterday the veteran small forward is intrigued by the possibility of being reunited with Larry Brown in New York.
Lynch was released by the Hornets on Friday and will become a free agent once he clears waivers on Tuesday. The Knicks are one of several teams that have expressed interest in Lynch.

"George has interest in the Knicks," said his agent, Steven Kauffman. "He has a tremendous amount of respect for Larry Brown. They're both old-school guys."

The 6-8 Lynch has played 12 seasons in the NBA, including three years in Philadelphia with Brown. The Knicks' coach would like to add an experienced, defensive-minded small forward.

"It's up to Isiah (Thomas)," Brown said when asked about Lynch. "We have 15 guys. We'll see how things shake out."

Currently, free agent pickup Matt Barnes and second-year player Trevor Ariza are battling for the starting job. Quentin Richardson also can play small forward. But Richardson is sidelined with a strained left hamstring and Brown has said he would prefer to play Richardson at shooting guard. Barnes has had an impressive preseason but he likely would be released if the Knicks were to sign Lynch.

Lynch, who requested a trade over the summer, also was sidelined during the preseason with plantar fasciitis, a foot ailment. According to Kauffman, doctors have cleared Lynch to resume workouts this week. Lynch, out of North Carolina, has averaged 6.6 points and five rebounds in 774 career games.

I understand the thing with Larry... but George, are the Knicks really a contender? ;)

I wonder if Isiah finally pulls something out with the Blazers (Miles/Patterson/Ratliff interest, for Malik Rose/Mo Taylor offering(s) ) and gets Lynch as well. Be interesting to follow this week. edit: Or Isiah releases Matt to replace him with Lynch... I'd take either. Matt's looked really good, showing a bunch of athleticism I hadn't seen last season, and an improved offensive game.

Houston, maybe. Have little swingman depth other than Barry (SG) and Bowen (SF). Don't know if Baxter/Glover/Norris are making the team or what... if they all are, they have 14, with Sura being out with knee surgery.

Maybe, Sac. :)

Knicks taking harder look at Lynch

Sunday, October 30, 2005 BY DAVID WALDSTEIN

Star-Ledger Staff
GREENBURGH, NY -- With the Knicks in need of a small forward, as well as a few more players who play the way Larry Brown teaches, it's more and more likely they will go hard after George Lynch.

The 6-8 small forward was waived Friday by the Hornets and Brown said he believes that, at 35, Lynch can still play.

"Oh, yeah," Brown said yesterday after a long film session and practice. "He was awful good for me. But again, I'm trying to focus on our guys and (Friday) night I was disappointed."

Brown was referring to the Knicks' sloppy loss to the Nets on Friday.

Lynch played for Brown in Philadelphia, and both are University of North Carolina products, which means something to Brown.

"There's a strong bond between George and Larry," said Lynch's agent, Steve Kaufman. "The Knicks are the one non-elite team that George would consider playing for."

Brown didn't say outright that he wanted Lynch, but indicated that he and Knicks president Isiah Thomas had discussed the matter by saying they talked every day about the club.

"Isiah knows who's available and he knows what our needs may be," Brown said. Right now we have our 15 guys and that's my focus. We'll see how things shake out."

Thomas, who spent time working one-on-one with rookie Nate Robinson at the end of yesterday's practice, did not speak to reporters.

Lynch was placed on waivers Friday and won't clear them until Tuesday afternoon. He has missed much of the Hornets training camp with a sore foot, so the Knicks could sign him and put him on the inactive list for a few games.

It is believed Lynch will have other offers, but perhaps none that would give him as much playing time. Last year he averaged 21 minutes per game in 44 games and averaged 3.7 points and 4.0 rebounds. His best season was the 1999-00 season under Brown in which he averaged 9.6 points and 7.8 rebounds.

When the Hornets made Lynch available in a trade earlier in the month, the Knicks looked into it but couldn't find a match. Now they can get him without giving up anything but money.

Brown said he has had to play Stephon Marbury at point guard more than he had anticipated, mostly because of the continued development of Jamal Crawford and Robinson. He said he was still trying to balance the need to utilize Marbury's scoring skills with the need to have someone control the offense. When asked about it, Marbury shrugged and said he was a point guard.

Can't see Lynch going to Spurs, and the kinda swingman they are wanting has to be younger, athletic (waiting for players waived tomorrow, specifically Ron Dupree possibly). Suns? 15 players already. Mavs? Already have plenty of swingmen, and cut(s) to decide on. Denver? Been stacked with swingmen, their team is full. Heat? Full, and already are set with swingmen; Posey to return, Walker (SF/PF), Anderson, Kapono, Wright. Pacers? Don't want to spend anymore, and are deciding on Samaki Walker to make it or not. Detroit? Have a difficult young player cut to decide on, and a nice crop of swingmen. 15 spots too, plus a recovering Lindsey Hunter. Cavs? 15 spots already, and have Pavlovic/Jackson, plus very soon to return Ira Newble. Nets? Already have a loaded bench, a cut decision (to bring it down to 15 or 14), and a solid group of swingmen.

About Seattle (pretty questionable team to how they go, but worth mentioning):
"Seattle has 15 players on the roster, and 14 have guaranteed contracts. Free agent Mateen Cleaves appears to have a spot for now, but Sonics management will scour the waiver list today as teams make their final cuts before submitting a regular-season roster to the NBA on Monday."

They're already committed to Wilkins though. I bet Cleaves stays anyways.

I'd say it's between NY/Sac/Houston.

By George, Lynch
is big fan of Larry

BY FRANK ISOLA
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

All the teams on George Lynch's wish list - that includes Houston, Miami and Denver - are championship contenders in his eyes. The other team is the Knicks and that's because Lynch wants to play for Larry Brown and feels Brown's presence should get New York back in the playoffs.

"His system will be beneficial to everyone," Lynch said yesterday.

"Once the players buy into it, they will win games. Larry is a good enough coach that in every close game he will make the necessary adjustments to help you win."

Lynch, a 12-year veteran forward, was released by the Hornets on Friday and will become a free agent once he clears waivers tomorrow.

The Knicks have expressed interest in the 35-year-old Lynch, who is exactly the type of tough, defensive-minded player Brown wants.

The 6-8 Lynch said his top choice would be the Rockets because he lives in Dallas and feels that Houston needs a backup small forward.

The Knicks, Rockets, Nuggets and Heat all would have to release a player to sign Lynch.

"At this stage in my career I need to play for a coach who understands what I can do for a team," Lynch added.

"Larry Brown, George Karl, Jeff Van Gundy and Stan Van Gundy all know what I can bring. I can play defense, rebound and I have experience. Plus, all of those teams already have a big man."

Lynch has been sidelined all preseason after have electrical stimulation therapy for plantar fasciitis.

He has stayed in shape by riding a stationary bicycle and lifting weights. Lynch believes he would need a week to 10 days before he can play.

"I'm ready to get back to work," he said. "I think by next Monday I would be ready. If a team needs me sooner, I'll be out there." Lynch has averaged 6.6 points and five rebounds in 774 career games.

Well, it's gonna be Houston. Miami/Denver are full, Miami just said today they're keeping Barron/Walsh.

The saga continues ;):

Let me in
Former Hornets forward George Lynch, a free agent, has said he would like to play for the Rockets, but the Rockets don't seem likely to quickly move in that direction.

The Rockets have the maximum of 15 players on the roster, 14 with guaranteed contracts. The other player, Dion Glover, brings skills like Lynch's at the same small forward position.

"There's a lot of guys out there," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "I'm more worried about the guys in here than out there. George Lynch had a wonderful career. A wonderful competitor. Tough. He's got a lot of great things. But right now, my concern is who is here and getting us to function better. Coaches don't spend a lot of time with who's out there and what-ifs."

Well, he certainly isn't gonna get on the Nuggs/Heat either... looks like it's the Knicks, or us (I know, I'm just hoping a bit)? ;)

why not go to 76ers, play small forward to back up bad KK.

Because they're not a contender or top team, yet anyways. Or considered by Lynch. Lynch said before/after being waived he wants to play for a contending team/top team. A couple days after, he singled out the Knicks because of Larry Brown.

Just read above to see how this has gone.
