Hornets @ Kings Game Thread

Kids did not win it. Only two guys played over 30 minutes tonight: Ron Artest and John Salmons.

So who gives a rats *** what reggie decided to do. We have no control over anything and believe me I'm with you on the fact that we should have played ron and salmons less but font blame the kings. The hornets couldn't even neat a non playoff tran without two starters so blame them for floundering down the stretch

With Kevin out and Ron likely sitting again too, should be no worries and turn into an ol' fashioned butt whippin' by NO...

Well, I was wrong, but Ron messed that up.

The 4th was one of the most fun quarters of basketball to watch all year, although I will admit, while not a tanker, I was terribly torn about winning versus damaging the Hornets' chances to get home court in multiple rounds of the playoffs. However, I do not live with the Lakers always in my crosshairs, and I really could care less if we do something to help them or hurt them, so that didn't enter the picture at all.

I am pulling for my hometown team in the post-season, but after watching them tonight, they are certainly not playing at their peak when they need to and could be in trouble in the opening round. Paul saw some decent D from us, but I didn't really feel that tried hard enough on the dribble penetration moves where he has been so dangerous this season and makes that team go.

We only had 8 guys play. The truly old sat on the bench all night. Of the 8 who played, all played 20+ minutes. Garcia played 29. The younger guys did see a lot of action.

Agreed. Minutes were distributed all the way around. We were in the game at the end, and Reggie put the lineup on the floor that he felt gave us the best chance to win.

That is what he should be doing.

Wow, Artest is magically ready to play against a top team *shocker*. Thanks Theus.

Oh, and thanks CP for being so unselfish to the detriement of the team. Nice shot clock violations there where you passed up wide open threes because you didn't want to shoot. This team needs a more consistent bench and they need a frontline player who can be a presence in the post on both ends. TC seems to give up on the defensive end at times, and he couldn't create his own shot if he went skeet shooting.

this forum is getting really weird now. Nobody knows what they want.

Meh, I'm a hornet and king fan. I try to make the games when they play, and root for whichever team gains the most by winning. Needless to say I wore my CP jersey and wanted the hornets to win to keep the top spot.

Hardly. Many people here know what they want. Its just not always what you want.

I think fandom has to be more than just applauding on cue everytime the curtain is raised or else we could all just be replaced by a nice laughtrack.

With that being said, you make it sound like the the young players didnt get any time at all or didnt contribute at all.

Garica: 28 mins, Douby, 20 Mins, Williams 24 mins, and Hawes, 24 mins.

So while they may have not completely carried the team, they contributed enough for the Kings to win.

Really some people are running out of excuses to hate on this team.

I make it sound like nothing of the sort.

Ron won the game. Salmons helped. Cisco did get involved. He's not that young, but close enough. We closed the game relying on Mikki and Ron at the big man spots. Young guys got some PT. They did not win the game. My post said no more.

I had fun watching this game. It was one of those odd times when I could be happy with either team winning. I am first and foremost a Kings' fan. Always have been, alays will be. I admit, that I really wanted them to win, but growing up in the Carolinas when the hornets were there and having lived in Louisiana for many years now, I do have a soft spot for the Hornets. I would have been fine if they had won, but I am sure glad they didn't.

The fact that the Hornets could not beat Kings while the Kings were down two starters can only be an indictment of the Hornets. The game had no real impact on the Kings so if you can't power past Mikki Moore and Spencer Hawes then you deserve to lose......

It's fascinating to me that people have hostility towards the Kings for winning the game. Shouldn't your first instinct be "What the F*** is wrong the Hornets?" The larger issue of playing the "kids" is another matter. Your talking about game 80 against the best team in the West. Great teams don't lose those games.

Anyone find it interesting during the post game interview of Jerry's comments about Salmons auditioning for other Western Conference teams. He spinned it so it meant to sound like the Spurs and Lakers would be prepared for Salmon's playing, but it sounded a little off. I'm intrigued.

The larger issue of playing the "kids" becomes more relevant if the people continuing spouting that mantra actually look at what's going on. We didn't have KT or SAR, we didn't have Brad, we didn't have Kevin. So, right off the bat we're down to 10 players. One of them is Lorenzen Wright, who isn't a kid and not gonna see a lot of time. In addition, we were on the second night of a back-to-back. So Reggie had 9 players available and he played them to the best advantage he could. The Kings were playing a championship-contending team in Arco. The mere idea they wouldn't try to win in front of the home fans is silly, but some people continue to act as though it's the best course of action.

As far as your comments about the Hornets, I totally and complete agree.

And I think fandom has to be more than sitting back and criticizing everything from afar.

EDIT: And the definition of fandom is so diverse and heated, I think that's a can of worms you really don't want to open.

Fan? Short for "fanatic." According to Merriam-Webster, that would mean
marked by excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion.

Enthusiasm is
a: strong excitement of feeling b: something inspiring zeal or fervor

So a fan has to be passionate about the team. The "uncritical" part appears to be optional.

Uh-OH don't start that!!!!!!!!!
