Hoopsworld's Kings 2010-11 Preview

"The Sacramento Kings accomplished everything they needed to this offseason by improving their frontline significantly while keeping their future financial flexibility intact. They should be quite formidable inside now with the additions of Samuel Dalembert and rookie DeMarcus Cousins. Cousins is the real wildcard for them. If he has a big rookie year like Tyreke Evans did last season they could be the next Oklahoma City Thunder in the West. Evans' continuing development is vital as well, he has to be ready to be the leader for this team if they're going to become competitive and eventually make a push towards the playoffs. For now though they're too young to crack the top eight, but there's a lot to like about this team and the direction they're headed in..."

I am amused by the fact that Hoopsworld, traditionally derided (and rightfully so) for being rank amateurs, appear to hit the nail on the head to a far greater degree than the various professional and not-so professional toads we've had taking shots at it to this point. There is a lot of good stuff in this preview (along with the occasional miss -- i.e. Cousins "flawless" summer league, Thompson being expected to take on more of the scoring load this year etc.

I should note that I exhanged e-mails with Luke Byrnes after his last bit on the Kings, and while he didn't exactly come around on a few points I was making with him, he was smart and knowledgible about the team in general.

This I did not know BTW re: Sammy D:

(his rebounding rate of 18.6 would rank tenth all-time, ahead of Tim Duncan, Shaquille O'Neal, Charles Barkley and many more, if he had the minimum 5,000 total rebounds to qualify, but he heads into this season 156 rebounds short of that number )

That's impressive.

Not a bad read, we all know what we have going for us heading into the season and the future. It's good to see that there is no bias towards our young team and we can only go one way and thats up.

I liked their statement at the end when they said there's no reason for the Kings to mortgage their future now for the sake of wins. Time is on the Kings side right now. The team is young and talented and on the way up. No quick fixes are needed, unless its an absolute no brainer. Nice article..
