this is the kings 02 team but its a 2.0 version

jimmer= bibby(long range, best scorer in college)
tyreke is tyreke
donte= hedo
cousins= webber( 2.0 webb)
honeycutt= christie( hes known for defense in college plus hes 6'8)
whiteside= keon klark
Isaiah thomas= bobby jackson
thornton=j will, but 10x better
casspi is casspi

this team can be just as stacked as the 02 team if it pans out right. we have length, height, and clutch proven players!

No. Not yet at least. Some similarities, but a few your comparisons are horrible.

jimmer-bibby, maybe down the road, but far, far too early to tell. I don't think Bibby was as good getting his own shot, or is as good a shooter. Don't know how Jimmer translates to the NBA though.
Didn't have anyone like Reke on that team.
Donte is nothing like Hedo. Hedo as a rookie was a contributing rotation player against the Lakers in the 2nd round, on a better and deeper team. Right now he's the GW of that team, without the future.
Cousins-Webber, see a lot of similarities, but it will take Cousins a few years. Webber was more athletic, Cousins a better shooter at age 20. Comaprable games definitely though.
Honeycutt-Christe, lets see Honeycutt get through a training camp first
Whiteside-Clark , Hassan has done absolutely nothing thus far. Jumping the gun bigtime.
Isiah Thomas-BJax, no way
Thornton-that's your BJax

hopefully there will be at least a partial season and this year will end like '98 with us sneaking into the playoffs...

i sure hope Whiteside pans out. especially if we don't get the defensive anchor such at Daly or chandler. I don't have my hopes up for Chandler

I do see things coming together like in that era. The players are different and one guy I don't see the Kings having yet is a Vlade. Vlade was an established Vet and an all around great guy who providing a unifying presense. I did see that Jimmer possesses some of that charisma during the group intro video I saw. But Jimmer is a rookie so it will take some time. Hope to see the Kings add an established big man who can provide leadership on the court and off.

The talent level could be close to that team but will the chemistry be, that's the question. That 02 team was great because of the chemistry. They complimented each other. Everyone knew their role and stuck with it. They were a well oiled machine. I have my doubts whether this team has what it takes to function on that level. I think this team has enough to get to the playoffs just based on talent, but whether they have what it takes to become a true championship contender remains to be seen.

When we first drafted Hawesome and Thompson I thought they we might be going for Divac and Webber 2.0...man was i wrong.

I think Petrie likes certain types of players- he values skilled players, shooters, and passing big men. He doesn't ever seem to go after passing guards (guys who have potential to go for 6+ apg). He never seems to draft guys on raw talent and never seems to go after super-athletic players. So to a certain extent all Petrie teams are going to look sort of similar.

I think Tyreke is the most un-Petrie player we've had on this team in a while (with Artest a close second).

I think there are some good comparisons to that team, but with one glaring difference. Age! That team had players of similar skills, especially when it came to being able to pass the ball (remember, being able, and doing, are two different things). Vlade was a proven veteran, where Cousins, who seems to have similar skills as both Vlade and Webber, is just a pup. Webb had already paid his dues around the league, and to a large extent, was a proven vet. While Honeycutt is a good passer, Christie had played point guard through a lot of his early career in highschool and college. I do see areas of their game thats similar.

Petrie played under Carrill at Princeton. And I think he's been forever imprinted by that system. Not necessarily a bad thing, as long as you have the right players on the floor. Bricky has pointed out, that it was a system that was developed to hide the deficiencies of the Princeton players. And thats true! But if it can give less talented players a chance to win against more talented teams, it can be even more effective when run by very talented players. To some extent, the Triangle offense was spawned from the Princeton offense. As a result, I think Petrie is once again trying to stock the team with players that are capable of playing within that system.

I do think that Jimmer equals Bibby. Why not Beno? Confidence! I think the only thing lacking in Beno, who I like, was his stepping up at crucial moments of the game. With 5 ticks on the clock, no one expected Beno to be the man. Not even Beno. Anyone that has seen Fredette play, knows he'll never shy away from the big moments. Anyone that saw Bibby play, would say the same thing. I think most of us would also say the same thing about Thornton. Petrie is stocking the team with guys that have a winning mentality, combined with high skill level. The trick of course, is for all the ingredients to blend together into a tasty, spicy product that everyone wants to consume. We're still in the taste test stage at the moment, but were moving in the right direction.

I think your comment about Beno is right on, a bullseye! I really like your general theme. This team is about Petrie's experience and vision. Personally it suits me fine and like you say let's stir the pot and see what happens. I'm looking forward to witnessing it.

I see similarities of the year of that last lock out when the Kings turned it around but it's not complete yet. That year, we drafted JWill, signed Vlade and traded for Webber. That was when it all started.
Okay, this year we drafted a high profile scorer in Jimmer.*check* We still need to sign a high caliber F.A. and I don't think Salmons is the blockbuster trade like Richmond for CWebb.
I'm still waiting to see how it turns out but it does feel like we're turning this thing around. It's going to be a long summer.

The only difference is that we had the building blocks in place before the draft and before the free agency so our moves do not have to be as big as the Webber trade or Vlade signing.

All we need to do is re-sign our own 2 big free agents and add to that via free agency and not a huge FA name but someone to round out the roster and balance it out.

You make a good point. We all ready have Tyreke and Cousins so the new additions won't have to be blockbuster. I don't think we're gonna sign Sammy though so hopefully, we can get a special player to play 4/5. If we can. I see great things happening.
