Heat vs. Lakers = NBA

Finally, after weeks of hype, the game that has no point other than to satisfy the two biggest egos in the NBA will play. I don't know about you guys, but the coverage and press this game is getting everywhere has surpassed annoying.

Now, let's take a look at the NBA page yesterday night:

Now, what do we have here? NBA.com has decided to advertise this game nine times on the main page at one time. Is this a joke? The way the NBA is currently, I wouldn't be surprised to see both these teams in the NBA championship, because this game is getting more hype than it deserves. I, for one, can't wait until this game is over with, and I could careless what the results turn out to be.

Like any other capitalist pimping their wears the NBA is doing the natural thing, putting the flash out front. Think ofthis as product palcement. Car dealers do not park sensable effecint cars out front, they park the flashy ones out there. The much hyped match up between former team mates is also the not so coincidentaly a match up between the top and 3rd higest jersey sellers.

As a side note I have obseved that frequeently these overly hyped match ups are often disapointing. (Remember the Kings Lakers Christmass game? Good ball but none of the fireworks of the previous meetings in the WCF and the preseason) Of course this is to be expected since despite the roumers on Sackings.com, the NBA cannot script or controll the game. They look at who is selling jerseys, what hype is already out there and they they play off of it.

Will Kobe brust through the "Brick WAll" and dunk on Shaq? Will Shack send Kobe into the cheap seats? probalby not. Lets face it the Heat are playing sensable good ball that has taken them to the top of the East, the Lakers so far have done a nice job of making the best of what they have, but putting lipstick on a pig donsn't change much. They are simply hanging around the 7-8-9 slots like a fart in a phone booth, so how muc game can we expect? Fun one to wathc but I dout if it will really be a "great game."
