Hawes playing time

Hawe's college coach Romar told Grant Napear today not to expect Hawes to score a lot of points, but that he would help the offense with his passing.

Not to expect him to score a lot of points??

Er...if Spenser Hawes does not come into the NBA and commence dominating in the low post, this pick is a failure. Its the whole key to his promise and potential. The entire reason he was a lottery pick. If you just wanted a big lug who was going to do big lug things, you'd take Aaron Gray over Spenser Hawes. He HAS to score. And well.

Concur? No. When people actually take the tests and make an effort to do well at them, ...
There was a difference of one more player being taken in the first 10 combine scores versus the bottom ten? Again, BFD. And again, you prove my point.

Taller people score worse on average than shorter people on speed and agility drills? Delightfully revolutionary! Next, you're probably going to tell me obese people tend to be slower than slim people.

Yeah, pretty meaningless.

As an aside, if you are just going to discount Oden and Durant you might as well discount everyone who knew they were going to be drafted, which is probably the top 20-25 at least.

And that they were taken, on average, 13 picks earlier despite being smaller players.

I didn't, Durant was in the bottom 10, and I included him in those stats. People have suggested that he and Oden didn't want to risk pushing themselves hard in the tests, but I ignored speculation like that in compiling the stats.

If Durant did try his hardest, a lone exception is still meaningless. If a sampling of one proved anything, we could avoid the draft altogether, since undrafted Ben Wallace was vastly better than #1 pick LaRue Martin. But that would be a poor basis for decision making.

Last night I was really pissed off at the draft pick. This morning it is one of the major things on my mind and I am very happy about the draft pick for a couple reasons.

1. We have another C
2. He's 19 years old and already has a good low post game. Give him a little while and he might turn out to be really good.
3. We are rebuilding.....period.
4. Somewhere I heard that he isn't done growing yet? Not sure if that is true but if he added another 2 inches that would put him at 7'2....which is a pretty decent size. That mixed with his added experience makes him the future starting Center for the Kings. I am guessing he will be here for a while.
I actually said he could still grow some, since he's only 19 and a lot of guys put on some height up to about age 21. No guarantees on that, tho.

I read that Hawes is 7' 3/4" now? They were talking on the radio about how David Robinson actually grew 7" while he was at the Naval Academy. That's quite a growth spurt after high school. Very unusual.

Found that fact about Robinson here:

Exactly. The whole reason we apparently drafted this guy was he can score in the post. So if he's not scoring what the heck is he out there for?

Wow. Did I go through a time warp or something?

I thought it was June. I didn't think we'd played any games with Hawes in a Kings uniform yet.
