Hassan Gets His Flex On

Having seen him up close and personal, such as standing right next to him at summer league, you couldn't be more wrong. The dude is seriously buff. Not to mention that Westphal said that Thompson was probably in better shape than anyone else at camp due to working out hard all summer.. Plus, I think you need glasses. I saw nothing in that short video that would prompt me to say what you just stated. Everyone that lifts weights doesn't show it the same way. Not everyone is going to look like Dwight Howard.

My eyes are fine. I see what I see. I understand everyone's body builds differently. I've been working out in gyms for about 18 years. I'm pretty in tune with that. Being "buff" is one thing, that just means he's big. i didn't say he was small or weak, Have you seen him with his shirt off, because that really tells the tale in regards to what I'm talking about.

Exactly...and anyone who thinks JT was just loafing it and partying the whole offseason getting fat they're wrong...I've followed JT on Twitter all Summer and he was tweeting about hitting the gym once or twice a day, and he was in close contact with Donte and Cousins via twitter too, they all were working out ALOT during the offseason.

Again never said he was loafing. I follow him on twitter as well. But, overall physique 90% is diet, 10% is working out. If the diet is paid attention to very closely you're spinning your wheels.

Anyway, my opinion is my opinion. You don't have to agree with it, and it could be wrong, but nothing I've read detours from my opinion being possibly true. I wasn't really putting down JT's work ethic. I'm just saying his physique, and how he carries his weight, isn't very impressive. And he was wearing a somewhat form fitting shirt.

The key is what kind of shape? You don't have to be built like adonis to be in basketball shape haha. he might be 'basketball ready", his physique just isn't very impressive to me.
I guess we already have one 'adonis' in Hassan now...I mean how many 'adonis' can one team have?:D

I'll leave the Adonis proclomations to you. My man card doesn't allow me to make those #nohomo :D /Jerry Seinfeld Voice (Not that there's anything wrong with that)
Gee this whole thread is dedicated to a discussion of men's bodies. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. ;)

Oh..it is?!

Well as you know for the sake of the women on the board I am always happy to contribute to discussions of these kinds. So here ya go:

Voison can't get enough of them, methinks. ;)

I never say this, but... LOL!!

As for the debate over who's in the best shape, maybe what coach meant was that not only is JT pretty buff now, but maybe he can also run 6 miles in half an hour. Muscles are great, but (unless you're strictly an energy/bench guy) there's no substitute for endurance.

Let me put it this way. The day I stood next to him he had on a black tee shirt that looked as though it was painted on. He had no gut and his pec's were fairly impressive. When? At any time since JT has been on the team, has he shown any indication of being out of shape. He's shown to be the most durable player on the team despite landing hard on his back several times. He's been nothing less than the energizer bunny. Now you can criticize his play. He's hardly the perfect player. But there's no evidence in the past two seasons, nor in the video, that would suggest that JT is a slacker or is out of shape.

Take a look at Pau Gasol or Kevin Durant and you tell me that either one of them looks in better shape than Thompson. Lets remember that were talking about basketball players here, and not body builders.

Not out of shape, but one of his issues has been an apparent lack of strength given that frame. Certainly nothing about it has suggested a dedicated lifting regime. And this as an older rookie too who should be beyond the skinniness of adolescence and into his man's body now. If that has improved or turned around it would be an important step for him in being able to guard guys his own size (i.e. centers) more efectively.

Well I don't carry a strength meter with me, so I have no idea just how much he can bench press etc. Just from looking at him up close, I'd say he he could easily beat me at arm wrestling. Seriously though, I don't think JT's problems in the post defensively, have as much to do with strength, as they do technique and footwork. I'm by no means trying to diminish the need for strength, but I've seen guys smaller and weaker play good post defense. I also think that it hasn't helped JT, not having anyone to practice against that was a serious challenge. Somehow, I can't conjur up an image of Hawes pushing anyone around. However, I think having to practice against someone like Cousins or Dalembert will only make him better.

We'll see. This is his third year in the league and he needs to show what brings to the table.
