Harrison Barnes is opting out

Horford will be too old when our rookie contracts are due.

The advantage of Vuc is we could sign him on a second contract and go over the cap later. Same for Dedmon + younger others.

Nothing Vlade can do if Vivek will not be willing to pay luxury later though with regards to that.

That's a big consideration.

Vuc would at most cost 31. something million via pay scale in the first year. I broke that down on one of the threads what it would cost to max him but forgot where.

Gotta keep that in mind. Cause we will have trouble going over the cap later.

That’s when we sign Jokic.

Other players have done this very thing. If he were in golden state he would probably be the second option. Just saw someone else had put GS up there and thought to myself it would be a good destination if he wants to play a lot in an attempt to get paid next year. Nothing more. I just "have a feeling" on this one. Nothing more, and I do hope that I am wrong!
This smells like the Bonzi deal, remember he turned down 5 year $36 mil deal and signed 2 year $5 mil with Rockets? And his agent said ...this isn't about the money, this is about being in the right place...
Just let him walk, otherwise he'd get overpaid here. His agent will be fired.

Just letting him walk is a terrible idea. We know none of the other max-level guys are choosing Sacramento, and going into next season either playing Bogdan at SF or trading away assets for a new one is significantly worse than a slight overpay.

I don't like Oubre as much as Barnes, but if you want to go after him it would be logical. Otherwise I think it would be a terrible mistake not to pay Barnes.

Ohhhh, I like Oubre. I’d take him over Barnes actually. But if we play that game, strike out, then Barnes leaves we’d be up a creek with no paddle.

LMAO. So ruin chemistry getting rid of Shumpert for a guy who's going to walk away from 25 million. Bring on Terrance Ross and resigning WCS for that money.

If I was a betting man, I would bet on Barnes being back with the Kings on a long term deal. This is no surprise to anyone paying attention. Even Vlade said at the time we got Barnes that we would be interested in keeping him on a longer term deal in the summer.

It would appear that people just assumed that he would opt in because of the large number attached to his deal for next season. I would not be surprised if there is a tentative agreement between the Kings and Barnes on a long term in place before he opted out.

That's the likely reason he's going to get overpaid here, I rather overpay to a gamechanger type of player than a roleplayer.

I doubt he re-signs with us. What I got out of it is that he's gone. The warriors with Durant out need a SF. They will probably offer him a 2 year deal with an opt out clause if he blows up this year without Durant on the floor. I assume he's going to play the one year in GS and be one of the main scorers and then get paid next year. Anyhow, I doubt we'll keep him. I give it a 5% chance.

The W’s can’t afford anything outside of the MLE

You are not getting Horford for 2 years, if that was the case he could have stayed with Celtics for 30 mil
If you could get Vucevic in high teens/low 20's sign me up !!!! but aint gonna happen!

maybe 3 years 28,26,24 for Horford

Otherwise might as well go after Dedmond

Would rather them go after Valanciunas or keep Stein than Dedmond.

A ton of players? Maybe a handful. You're grasping at straws. Barnes doesn't need to do that. He's gonna get paid from the Kings. Vlade worked too hard to get him to let him just stroll away.

Plus he already got his big payday . He will still get paid, but taking a 1yr MLE deal makes zero sense

Think Vlade would consider signing a guy who broke a teammates’ face? Culture and all that.

Would love to hear Mr Culture Grant’s spin on it if it happened, though.

Breaking a teammates is def not a good look lol. But On the flip side all his teammates backed him over Mirotic. From what I read he was the aggressor multiple times and Portis finally clocked him.

If he re-signs with the Kings, I have to assume he will be getting overpaid. If you look at it from Barnes perspective he really doesn't have much connection to the organization aside from playing half a season here. The coach he played for has been fired and the current coach is facing pretty serious accusations.

I have mixed feelings about signing him. He plays good defense, is a full sized Sf and can hit the three. On the other hand, he doesn't move the needle enough on a team to be paid 20 mil a year.

I’ll go out on a limb and say that lunch meeting went pretty well. Don’t think he’s going anywhere. Hell, maybe he’ll take a selfless hit on his contract seeing he just got paid max money for the last few seasons.

.... one can dream! :p
Anything under 20 a year I think is a good thing. If you can pencil in 15 pts 5 reb for a 3rd maybe 4th option. With abilities to get 30 when more volume is needed. You gotta sign that. He will be much more comfortable going into next season. Everybody will be on same page.

Barnes was with Walton at GS.

I don't know who is, you never know for sure; but with that mentality, you'd get stuck in mediocrity.

It’s not a mentality if it’s true. We all know game-changers don’t willingly come to Sacramento. They get drafted or traded here, then fall in love. When was the last game-changer who chose to come here?

We shoot for the stars, miss with everyone, then also lose Barnes we’re in deeeeeeeeep trouble.

Not worth the risk.
