Harington for Gordon?

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything. Radio station in Chicago is reporting Bulls will be trading Ben Gordon for Al Harington.

Harrington is quite overrated, and I'm not really sure why given that he's never done much of anything of note. Guess he's more legitiamte as a starter than the stubby guys they have now, but he's still a tweener, and does not board or block shots. Guess its all about finding a decent post scorer (my theory on why they might take Reef).

But since on the other hand I think Gordon is somewhat overrated himself, I guess its not a bad island of misfit toys type of swap.

Probably does foreclose most of any mythical chance we might have had to nab Chandler (and there may never have been any). Oh well.

I think this was a really strange move by the Bulls. Gordon has given them serious boost off the bench.

I like both, especially Gordon (haven't seen a lot of Harrington, heard a bunch about him, but what I have seen was good), guy is a fantastic scorer and shooter, and has been stepping up his defense recently.

Paxson loves Reef. Bulls may be one of the teams that were offering more money then the Kings...

Having Gordon come of the bench behind Mike would be weird. Gordon is like better BJax then BJax offensively and worse Mike then Mike defensively. Now, wrap your mind around that!

I haven't heard anything here yet but will be listening. Harrington's been good here, him and Johnson have been pretty much ressonsible for the wins the Hawks have but I would love to see Gordon here. The only problem I see is that he's also young and the Hawks are a very young team. I think some veterans and leadership would help them more. Al's numbers are better than Ben's but I thing it could work.

If they don't trade them, wouldn't they be facing the possibility of him walking away and them getting nothing in return? (does this sound familiar?)

The Hawks need to clear room for another tweener in Marvin Williams.

Not that I thought Paul would be so good so fast, but I thought he was definitely the best pick for the Hawks on draft night. Instead, they overpay for Joe Johnson and initially try to play him at the point, while drafting a kid who didn't even start in college who is also a tweener.

Who is running that franchise, and why do they still have a job?

After I saw your post, I wanted to clarify my last comment. I DO believe the Hawks overpaid for Johnson, but that's not to say I don't think he's a good player. He does a lot of things well, and although he's not the type of stud you build a team around, he's a solid complimentary piece.

Still, JJ is averaging 19.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg and 4.1 apg while shooting 46%

On the other hand, he's making $11 million dollars more than the man he was traded for. For comparison, Boris Diaw is averaging 11.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg and 5.9 apg on 50% shooting. Johnson is a much better three point shooter (the knock on Diaw has always been his shooting) and Diaw's numbers are no doubt inflated due to the Suns offense, but still. . .

Throw in the two 1st round picks (one will come from the Lakers or Boston, likely this year if the Lakers make the playoffs and one will be the Hawks which is lottery protected this year, top 3 protected next year and unprotected in 2008). and it adds up to a bad deal IMO.

The one Hawks owner who rejected the trade (and who was later booted out by the others) was the only one with any sense as far as I can tell.

The Suns will likely get a late lottery pick this year and a top ten pick next year as well as Diaw, the leading candidate for Most Improved Player in my estimation.

Atlanta, on the other hand, has a glut of swingmen and tweeners (Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Josh Childress, Marvin Williams and Al Harrington, at least for now) and no PG or C.

Signing JJ outright would have been overpaying a bit, but he's been a good player for them this season. But overpaying him and giving up Diaw and the two 1st rounders was a bad move.
