Hansen agrees to price for Cook's piece of the Kings

I see this whole thing with 2 prongs:

#1: David Stern's plan to squish the Maloofs out of the NBA due to them pissing him off a TON the past 20 years or so, and then running our team into the dirt and being shady about it. I may be in the minority, but I think Stern's plan started with KJ getting elected, I think Stern might have called up KJ and said 'Hey, these bafoons Maloofs have pissed me off for the last time, you're done playing now right? Why don't you run for mayor in your home town and we can get this ball rolling...I'll be quietly by your side every step of the way until we squeeze them out!' And what we've seen in all this drama the past few years hasn't been a coincidence, and I definitely believe 100% the Kings are staying put here in Sacramento.

#2: I believe Chris Hansen is going to secretly try to fund an anti-arena public ballot campaign...although I think Burkle/Stern/the rest of the whales/KJ have wrote our plan with sufficient enough wording to shoot down anything like that, I do see Hansen(secretly)trying to pick up steam in the next month or so, only to be quelled.

This is an interesting take and one I had not thought of yet. I have some up close experience with city councils and mayoral politics (Kirkland, WA) and how those with money and power basically get people elected who will approve development and projects and such... so it's not out of the realm of what would be possible in my world. Also, I think KJ and Stern have a closer relationship than they really let on, and maybe that vibe I get comes from the fact that Stern's been behind the whole KJ candidacy, etc. If so, that would put Stern in the category of secret political operative, but again not out of the question. You know he must have been frustrated with Heather Fargo.

Minnesota's owners didn't do their due diligence on looking for a local buyer. They just sold the team to an out of town group that wanted to move the team to New Orleans. It was poorly financed and even if it wasn't, Stern had a buyer lined up in Glen Taylor. Ironically, he's still the owner to this very day.

Any new news? Mayor KJ said a few days ago that he'd respond in a day or two regarding the bankruptcy sale of Bob Cook's 7% and what they were gonna do. I haven't read anything as yet? Has it been confirmed that one of the minority owners on "our" side is going to match the offer?

Patience, grasshopper. ;)

It's Easter weekend. The group has 15 days from the date the 7% share was sold for other minority owners to match the offer. They have said it will be done. People need to take a breath and relax. KJ has this covered, just like he has everything else. It will be announced when the time is right, possibly on April 3 when the presentation is made to the BoG.

I would hope by now that most of Sacramento, and beyond, has learned that not only is KJ totally on top of everything, he is usually several steps ahead. Any 'mistake' hes has made is a actually deliberate move that the rest of the world hasn't caught onto yet..

He said he probably wasn't going to bid on the 7%. It has to be a minority owner at this point and I don't think at of them are going to bid so I think the focus turns to the bigger piece of the pie. Missed opportunity to show a tangible investment but not the end of the world.

All depends on if we keep them but he has definitely put in a ton of effort.

The news tonight reported that JK will not be trying to buy Cook's shares. JK has thrown his total support behind KJ.

Not sure what you mean. The only bid put in for the shares was by Hansen. The minority owners have 15 days to match the bid. It has been reported from several sources that KJ is indicating the bid will be matched. My guess is that the Benevenuti family will make the matching bid, thus strengthening their minority shares. The Benvenutis are staunch supporters of KJ.

You have my attention. I have been trying to find some tie in with the Benvenutis family but this is the first I have heard.

Has there been anything published on this like K.J. campaign donors or such. This would be huge confidence booster.

I don't have any links or anything, but I'm reasonably sure the late Joe Benvenuti was a campaign donor for KJ. I also seem to recall that KJ had some very kind words to say when Joe passed. I'll see what I can find out to corroborate. As a member of the original ownership group that was able to bring the Kings to Sacramento in the first place, the Benvenutis would not be supportive of moving the team to Seattle. Remember, it was the Benvenutis who, along with Gregg Lukenbill, built both Arco I and Arco II.

I have found very little on Joe and family. But he was always for Sacramento's expansion. Hopefully the family continues with his vision.

It would be dumb for a minority owner not to match. Either decision by the BoG those shares are worth more than the $15.1 mil. If Seattle gets the team then Hansen has to buy them for $37 mil. If the team stays the shares will increase due to the selling price and new arena.

Yes. If Hansen buys the maloof share then he has to buy out any minority owner who wants out at the same cost of the maloof shares. It's in the shareholder papers. That is why it's been reported it could cost him the full $525 if all the minority owners want out too.

Depends. He can be a bit of a negative debbie downer type. He's been going with the angle the Maloofs are posturing about not selling if Hansen's bid is rejected. Personally I think the Maloofs stated they would accept backup offers from Sacramento. Only one offer I know of that exists.

There is really no chance the Maloofs can run the team another year. Plus you can bet they spent some of Hansen's deposit and Hansen will be going after a refund if he doesn't get the team. I think the NBA has a card to play if they start monkeying around.

That is what the Maloofs, and Hanson, would LOVE the BoG to think. The reality is, if the Maloofs DID hold on to the team, it would be TERRIBLE for the league. They would have a franchise that was hemorrhaging money. They would be no sponsors, no fans, etc. Even if the Maloofs could afford to do that, there is no way the league would allow them.

Bruski's track record has been pretty good so far. It's a good sign for Sac in my opinion if the Maloofs have to try to come out and use the media to try to get the BOG to think twice. It means the Maloofs aren't confident things are leaning their way at this time.

Scott Howard-Cooper was a Kings beat writer for the Sacramento Bee for a number of years. After he moved on, he lost some of his credibility. If he's hearing that rumor, it's most likely coming from those same loveable Maloof Brothers who told all of us - including the NBA - that although the Sacto arena deal of 2012 was such a bad deal (their words) they were going to stay in Sacramento, refurbish Power Balance Pavilion and spend money for a much better team.

I seriously doubt if anyone believes anything that comes from the Maloof camp. And David Stern has made it abundantly clear that the decision on the future of the franchise will NOT belong to the Maloofs. They're up **** Creek. They don't have a paddle and their boat has sunk. They're up to their patoot in stinky stuff and they're still talking about winning the race. Poor Maloofs. They are NOT going to get away with yanking the NBA, the city of Sacamento or Kings fans around any longer.
