Cousins: Best late in the 4th quarter; showed poise, confidence, and talent. Not bad for the young guy in his first game. Worst moment in beginning of game when he didn't even get his hands up on D. His motor is still the main impediment to his progress. I did see him once in the game running at full speed down the court. That was on offense when the play was for him to set up in the paint before the opposition did. He can motor if he wants to. Now if he could repeat that speed for about forty times running the court instead of one time, he will help himself immeasurably, especially on D.

Luther Head - nice. Plays D and hits the open shot.

Beno - nice again. Without Tyreke, he was key.

Garcia - should be the MVP just for getting out of the game uninjured. Really was happy for him with an excellent game.

Landry - 11 rebounds? Totally defied expectations. Very nice.

The rest - meh.

Sure am glad the season has finally started!

Game

The thing that impressed me most was our ability to get into the penalty.
This should be one of our strengths this year, considering how big we are and how much time Tyreke typically spends on the line. Hopefully Cousins can work on his foul troubles, but the game reminded me that cousins and landry down low are a tough handle (granted it was just the wolves)

Rebounding and getting to the foul line =

But ofcourse. Different mesure for different players.

Daddys boy would get A+ for Garcias or Landrys numbers.
Not sure what you meant? Brick grades each player according to how he think's that player is capable of performing, not in relation to other players on the team. So Cisco's score is based on the standard Brick has set for Cisco, not on whether he played better than Donte, e.g.

Piksi's back and Brick's real game grades are back. The Kings won and its always a good feeling.

I will confess that I miss VF21's play-by-play, which I often read even when I'd watched the game on TV. I think people that couldn't see or hear the game appreciated them, too.

I didn't get the game here, so I was having to settle for stat updates and other people's analyses.

One thing I heard several people say was that, despite his foul trouble, Cousins gave Sac a huge point differential whenever he was on the floor (I think +18 is what he said). Is this accurate?

And I totally know what you mean with the whole "try to draw a foul instead of just playing defense" habit of his. It's been there a while...

Except for the beginning of the game (when Cousins looked like a rookie in his first game), the whole offense seemed to settle down whenever Cousins was in the game. They pretty much ran the offense through him on the block most of the 2nd half (when he wasn't on the bench in foul trouble).

It's been two or three years at least hasn't it?

My sentiments as well. I wasn't able to see the game as I was stuck with limited satellite tv, while being out of town. I truly do miss VF21's play-by-plays. She made it seem so easy to do, but I know that it took a lot of time and effort on her part.

Anyway, I'm so glad that the Kings won, and my SF Giants too!!

RE: opening on the road this year, I do know that Disney on Ice is at ARCO right now through Sunday - don't know if that was booked before or after the NBA schedule was made, but ARCO is not available right now.

The Kings/Arco pushed back the annual Disney on Ice visit so that the Kings could open at home.....and then the NBA pushed forward the start of the season. =/

Or something to that effect, I get the logistics mixed up. Point is, the Kings made the effort to clear Arco's schedule and then the NBA changed the date of the start of the season.

Didn't know that, but whatever happened, ARCO is busy right now.

I think once Reke and Dalembert return to the lineup, this Kings team is going to be very effective. A lot of good role players, quality starters, and a closer. Cousins looks raw, but he is the real deal. Whiteside has a lot of work to do to be effective. Really loved Cisco's veteran leadership! GO KINGS !

I just finished watching the game.

It looks like Cisco could be the best guy to pair with Tyreke at the back court. Except for that stupid jumpshot where he didn't even care to release the ball, he looks like the perfect SG we should play consistently next to Evans. Silently operating, Cisco had been a solid contributor both on defense and offense in this game.

Beno terribly sucked in defense as expected. If you pay attention maybe about 70-80% of the time he lost his man. He constantly was beaten by the other team's point guards. The game could have been won as early as the first quarter if our BIGs does not have to work doubly hard to cover up for Beno's inefficiency in defense. Beno just couldn't stay with his man resulting to a porous defense in the paint. It was de javu. Before we have Bibbi and now we have Beno. Both are solid players on offense and both also the biggest liability in defense. And worse, there were times Beno seems to open his mouth and blame the bigs for poor defensive plays that started on him in the first place. Thank the gods, Beno made his last 4 free throws that gave us the WIN or no way I could have let anyone give Beno a passing grade.

Cousins was solid for a rookie center, but he is nowhere near from being the defensive anchor BIG for the team. Not with his propensity to be ground bound and merely taking charges as his first option in defending the paint. We need Whiteside to develop ASAP or no way we could get rid of the need for Dalembert.

Casspi looked like the starter material at SF more than Greene. And I think he should if Greene continues to be passive inside the court. Casspi also played solidly in offense but he showed he couldn't guard the premium SFs in the NBA. If Beasley was too much for him in this game, what more if he is to guard the likes of Lebron, Durant, and Anthony?
Greene and Thompson showed they were far away from being good players in a very good team. I'll bet they would be warming the bench for the whole game on teams like the Lakers and Celtics of they continue to play like this. Greene was lethurgic and seems like not doing his best. Thompson, ... oh well nevermind.

But of course, we also have to give credit to everyone. They are young and still developing and still managed to secure a WIN. A win is a win even if you got it against one of the worst teams in the NBA.

not agree on casspi he guard Beasley well still much better than donte...

I'm really not sure how you could say that when Beasley wound up scoring most of his first half points when Omri was defending him. While DOnte was still not playing defense at a Ron Artest level, he at least succeeded in making Beasley work for what he got whereas with Omri it seemed at times that he was pulling a Kevin Martin (not worry about my guy so that I can go be ready for o) at times.

There are some on this site who would swear that Casspi can do no wrong! I appreciate their loyalty, but it is over the top sometimes. Casspi is a nice looking prospect at the 3. He needs to improve his defense and outside shooting to continue to excel and move into the starting position. He looks like a better prospect future wise at this point. Donte seems to like being on camera too much. I think Greene needs to take his game more seriously if he wants to be famous! Omri will also have to put on some muscle to guard the aforementioned Carmellow's, Lebrons, and Durantulaz!

Fair analysis. Beno was important in the win because of his ball handling (we had nobody else to provide that except Pooh, also a poor defender), but his defense was poor. That's why he's not the long term answer next to Tyreke. Cisco is going to have issues against quick guards.

It looks to me like Thompson has now been formally demoted on offense. With the addition of Cousins, it looks like he's a fourth or fifth option on this team. Doesn't seem like he's going to be taking those outside shots from the elbow like last year. Cousins is now taking that role. And if that's the case, Thompson is left with put-backs and some low post stuff, which isn't his strong suit. So unless the design of the offense changes, I see Thompson's strengths being underutilized and his weaknesses being augmented.

I doubt the coaching staff will want him to put on more muscle. He already put on about 15-20 lbs of muscle over the summer, and putting on any more might slow him down. I think he just needs to learn to be a better defender, and I think he does have the desire to learn, which is half the battle. I also think there is some visible improvement from last season in that area, even if it's not dramatic improvement.

And some that will swear that all he is doing is wrong, I appreciate their right for an opinion, but it is over the top sometimes.

The truth is obviously, somewhere in the middle...
