Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Kings win! Kings win!
Mercifully no theme tonight. Bad team on the 2nd night of a back to back missing probably 2 of its top 3 players, but we just needed to beat somebody, anybody. Convincingly too.
If there was a dark lining to our silver cloud tonight it was just this: Reke goes in for an MRI tommorow. Fingers crossed.
Official Boxscore
Greene ( B- ) -- hit a three on a kickout early, and then proceeded to do nothing the rest of the quarter, and watched Casspi take over for the 2nd. Played pretty good defense on Thornton, but Al scored on him anyway. Cranked it up in the third though as we put the game away, and came up with several spectacular scores. Was running some smallball PF at times, which makes this final note all the more significant -- Donte, you are 6'11". 0 rebounds is not acceptable. You've got great size -- use it!
Thompson ( A ) -- banged around, but not much in the early going, with part of the problem being some more of his terrible touch around the hoop -- I think he should just start aiming 6 inches off of wherever he normaly would and more things might fall. But he never let off the hustle accelerator, and came up with big hustle plays and defensive challenges in the 2nd, and just kept on trucking into the second half, dominating the Wizards inside (get this, Flip Saunders thought his best chance at winning this one was to start a Kevin Seraphim/Trevor Booker frontline??). While several other guys (Beno, Pooh) had big games, and Reke surprsingly had a huge +/- as well, there was little doubt that JT's was the dominant player in this one with his activity. In his 38+ minutes we outscored the Wizards by, get this, 45 points. Given that we only won the game by 25 that means that n the 10 minutes he wasn't on the floor we in turn got outscored by 20. Hey, I've got an idea -- let's move him to SF!
Cousins ( C ) -- not all bad, but I think rather less than the numbers. Despite having what appeared to be an obvious interior advatange over Seraphim, in the early going we were not posting him but rather having him attack from up top as a driver? Managed to avoid foul trouble for a while -- critical with Daly out -- before he did his stupid take a charge thing right at the first quarter buzzer putting the Wizards on the line to take the lead going into the second quarter. Immediately picked up another cheapie to start the 2nd, and went straight to the bench. Was pressing in the third with bad shots and TOs, and I got the distinct feeling that DeMarcus thought he should be having a bigger game and was frustrated -- whether at us for not feeding him or himself it was not clear. Maybe wanted to impress Wall, not sure. Got into a little you dunk on me I'll dunk on you back and forth with McGee in the 4th before picking up his 5th and sitting for the last time.
Udrih ( A- ) -- tried to make up for last game with a strong burst, including knocking down a pair of threes, which he hadn't done all year. And again, who can explain these wild swings we have had this year? Two entirely different players suited up for us in two back to back games. Began to have some ballhandling adventures up top as the quarter wore on, but carried us throughout the quarter, before sitting out almost the entire 2nd with Pooh and Reke playing well together as we opened up the big lead. Came back in with 2 minutes to go, got out on the break and picked right back up with the scoring. After half a similar pattern occurred, with Beno continuing his hot shooting, showing energy and effort on defense, and largely flipping roles with an obviously hobbled Reke before taking a seat as the blowout got as high as 30 points. This was a really good effort by Beno. I pondered A, but JT was even better, and I am reluctant to hand out multiple straight As in any case, and almost certainly not in a waxing of a team half defeated before it even took the floor. He, JT, and Jeter were all excellent though.
