Grades v. Spurs 01/27

I mentioned a beautiful play I saw the Kings run twice in sucession. Bibby brings the ball up court, crosses the line and passes to Webber on the perimeter. Bibby cuts around, draws the defender and while he's looking to Webber for the pass, Miller is cutting inside. Webb shoots the pass in to Miller for a nice lay-up.

They did it twice. I mentioned it in the PBP thread as something I was hoping they'd continue to run. What happened? They didn't do it again the rest of the game.

:(

Hails to Matt Barnes!!!!

I have to give a hand to Matt Barnes tonight. He had a ton of pressure on him tonight, having not played much and asked to play more minutes than basically any of our new guys have yet. Not only that but he showed he belongs in this league, and more importantly on the Kings.

Webber ( C- ) But tried too hard to be the hero in the closing minutes.
Yes, he tried very hard, but played poorly today. A lof of long-range jumpers and bad timimg. He should have passed the ball more often, like he did in the 3rd quarter. I'd give him a D.

Regarding Mike's disappearing act, it seemed to me that there were several times toward the end of the game when Cat brought the ball up (as Doug used to) perhaps in an attempt to get Mike going as a scorer -- but then, it never happened.

Not sure if it was due to Cat's scorer mentality, or still being relatively new to the team.

Could be, too, that I'm on crack and imagining things (I'm not trying to be a smart ***, this is an entriely possible option).

Cat will be better in the offense when he plays like the 3rd or 4th option that he really is. Peja, Webb and Bibby are clearly the main three. This is something that Bojax understood, even if he too was liable to force shots at times.

as an aside, Webb shot 1-7 in the first quarter, was pulled, shot one little jump hook )reasonable shot) that missed in the second quarter before picking up his third foul and going to the bench. So 1-8 first half. Finished 6-17, and only hit 1-3 of those desperation heaves at the end. So figure in the second half before heave-time he shot 5-6. Was going fine there, and really not taking too many shots either.
Grades were righteous Brick, but this ^^ was just flat out creative!

I would have liked to see more work in the paint and, as someone stated, there were a couple of good plays there but too few. At least Duncan's game was held somewhat. The team as a whole worked hard and it didn't look like anyone was willing to settle for less than an all-out attempt at defense, only proving further they have it in them. They got no credit from Albert or Kerr, but so what. We know.

This is the second Kings vs spurs games where I missed. I was unabled to watch both games because I was so freakin tired from work that my eyes could not stay focus.

The thing is I rarely miss an opportunity to watch a game so from now if I am tired as hell, I am going to watch it. I need to stop taking naps and support the Kings.

Oh yeah, I heard Manu was annoying as hell....

I don't know if I was dreaming but I swear I heard Albert called out Peja's name. He had probably mistaken Kevin for Peja. Because I did woke up a few time.

I must have been in a state of delusion.

I'd be very pleased to see Kings making a run or taking the lead against the big teams at the beginning of games for a change...as they have done in recent years.
Especially when you're on the road you cannot defend like that in the first quarter like the Kings did.
Also you cannot settle on jumpshots, you gotta go to the hoop, then you will also get more calls.
I believe the Kings can beat the Spurs EVERY time they want, it's just a question how you approach the game. Because as far as team play and shooting is concerned no one in this league can match the Kings. But they have to be focused, especially on the defensive boards(as seen yesterday) and in defense.

KINGS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Critical vs Objective

It's tuff being a King's player and King's Fan these days ...

Yet, there's plenty to learn from last nights loss.

King's played much better last night .... still PLENTY of room for improvement.

King's would work their way back into the game and FAIL to MAKE A STOP when they really needed to. Several times they cut the lead down to less then 4 points after being down by 10-12 points ,...only to give the momentum back to the Spurs.

That stat "7-times the King's have been down at the begining of the 4 qtr and have won". We had our chances .... no points down the stretch .... again, no stops on defense ... and the USUAL mind-set of shooting the jumper from the perimeter rather than going in the paint.

Let's go guys .... Houston is waiting

Good grades. Team was short-handed and Webber is still banged up but they kept fighting.

As for Kerr - never was an F grade so richly deserved. I could possibly forgive him for being a Spurs homer on a nationally televised broadcast, but mitigating for refereeing errors when they go Spurs way is something else. It's like he never played a game of basketball in his life.

Steve F. Kerr indeed.

Team grade is tough, because they lost - but I'm giving them a B-

Why a B-? They hung tough against the Spurs. They might have actually won if a couple of critical calls had gone the other way, or hadn't been made in the first place. We may have lost, but we lost short-handed and with Webber clearly not playing very well. I don't think Pop is going to be very happy in the Spurs locker room. AND to ice the cake, TMass got posterized by Matt Barnes, with one of the oldest plays in the book. That in and of itself is worthy of raising the team grade.
I agree with VF's team grade and Brick's grades!

Webber defintely didn't look good out there. He still look hurt.

I loved Barnes' 3 pt play towards the end of the 3rd. :)

I also didn't listen to the TNT announcers. I had the mute button on the whole game.

Announcers ( F ) -- Steve Kerr is PATHETIC. I mean, its just sad. Actually TNT has gotten increasingly sad. But letting Kerr do a Spurs game is just stupid.

Referees ( F ) -- wow, what a terribly ref'd game. And a few of them REALLY hurt us too including a couple of terrible offensive call fouls and 2 pts that should have been ours but the refs waved off because they called Barnes for basket interference. Replays showed he never touched the ball. Not a big one for complaining about the refs, but this one really stood out for gross incompetence.

I can normally stand TNT announcers, but will someone tell them not to let Kerr do Spurs games EVER AGAIN? Anything that happened in the game was because of the Spurs. Kings make a run? Not because you know, we played good or something, nah, its because the Spurs are playing bad, or some other BS.
And yeah, the refs were horrible, but whats new with the Spurs? Parker and Duncan can do pretty much whatever they please. I remember one time Duncan clearly went over Webb's back, no call, then Webber gets called for that "foul" when we was walking out of bounds...it was just terrible

Manu is always annoying to me. He plays very crazy too.

I actually really like Manu...he's my favorite Spur...i would love to have a guy like that on the kings...but when he's playing against your favorite team...he's the biggest PEST ever...you want to just swat him with a fly-swater...even then it'd be hard to kill him...he can take a beating

as for the grades...i agree

i really liked how Darius played...he deserved his grade...but at the same time didn't really get enough credit
