Remember when people debated whether we should give Boogie a max contract or not?

This season's Cousins is SIGNIFICANTLY improved from last season. Last year Cousins spent 70% of his time in the perimeter shooting long jumpers. When he did get in the post he was impatient and didn't have a post move to really speak of other than an occasional half hook. He loafed up and down the floor, didn't play an ounce of defense and gave up if things weren't going his way and he was in foul trouble more often than not.

This year he is complaining less to the refs, has only been in foul trouble a handful of times, gives a crap on defense(even if there are still some lapses). Unlike last year he is playing about 80% of his game in the low post and is patient down there, seems to have developed some moves just by being patient and thinking for a second. He is passing out of double teams much better and much more willingly. Really he is one of the most improved players in the league, and the stats wouldn't even begin to tell the story.

I love the improvement we're seeing from both the starters and the bench. I would like to see Jimmer get the ball to Cousins in the post more (both him passing it in and Cousins actually going to post up instead of hanging out on the perimeter). Right now any time the bench comes in we become extremely perimeter oriented, which may work on some nights but isn't something I believe will work with consistency.

I am currently lobbying for a Williams for Danny Green trade. I will let you know how that works out. Especially with Landry about to come back. I see him getting the backup PF min not Williams. Or a Landry for Asik and a Williams for green would be nice. Then explore Thornton trades for pg. Lowry, jack...ect.
Williams is/will be the back-up SF when Landry comes back.

Great team game last night. I think it indicates that Malone has been listening to us on here or maybe figuring it out himself. There was a lot of trust out there. Can you imagine a late close game situation where a play was set up for Ben and pulled off? Ben often wasn't even in the game at that time. Malone seems to be earning the trust we have had in him.

The Kings beat the Rockets at home and people still want to complain about who to get rid of? Thomas gets the coveted 10 assists, 17 points and a grade of C?

Rudy Gay played a very complete game for 4 quarters. Cousins added a good second half after being MIA in the first half. Cousins put the team on his back at the end of the fourth quarter and showed "killer instinct" so to speak. That is a great sign. You can see his confidence in his team mates growing. Shaq's mentoring is showing big dividends. Malone referred to the team's 3 best players in a very positive way. The King's held the Rockets to their seasonal average of 106 points and got a victory. Still too many offensive rebounds by the opposition and too many uncontested lay-ups but a great win.

Rudy Gay is one of the pieces that has been missing. He shows a lot of versatility and plays under control. Malone made reference to running the offense thru him by design. He is a great ball handler for his size and doesn't give up on defense. I really like to watch him play.

I wonder how the Asik trade is going to work out because i would imagine HOU is going to want to limit Howard's mins. Last night he logged almost 45 mins they should be getting closer to cutting their losses soon nobody is going to buy high on Asik. I would like to see something like this

CLE
Asik

HOU
JT, Varejao

SACRA
T. Jones

Thomas ( C ) -- Got off to a slow start with his outside shot off and Houston doing a good job clogging the lane on his drives. Had his shot blocked twice in the first quarter. Can't remember the last time that happened. Lin deserves some credit as well. Was physical with IT all night and managed to get under his skin. Was doing a nice job running the offense and with Lin not looking to score early things weren't as bad as the ugly shooting numbers would lead you to believe. Rough third quarter for Isaiah as Lins defensive style was clearly frustrating him. Still wasn't able to find his shot and unlike in the first half wasn't creating much offense either. Sat for a long time, too long if you ask me, and came back in well into the fourth. Had a nice drive then a big three with the game very much in doubt. On the other end Lin was being more aggressive and getting into the lane for a couple baskets inside. Still overall it was a nice finish in a game we really had to win. Nice to see us get some production outside of the big three and manage a quality win in spite of a mediocre game from IT.--Henkel

I'm sorry but I cannot agree that IT's performance warrants a C. He got 10 assists. That alone bumps him out of the mediocre category. IT was part of the reason we won last night. I would lobby strongly for a B- ...

In defense of my grader, IT also shot 6-17 on a lot of dumb forces and was replaced by Jimmer freaking Fredette for a large chunk of the 4th because Malone had more confidence in Fredette running the team at that moment than Isaiah. The 10 assists was nice and very welcomly becoming more common, but almost all of them were before halftime.

I didn't like the trade and I like it less so now with Rudy Gay in town. Mbah a Moute would be a perfect player for this team as currently constructed!

When they get traded, playerrs generally go on a tear for a few games before they come down to earth! Remember when Kenny Thomas looked like C-Webb and got a triple double or when Brian Skinner looked lik Bill Russell there for a while!

I am always nervous when my team is picking up a player that Rick Adelman didn't rate! If anyone can get the best out of the player it's Adelman. He has made some very average players look like good productive players. And before people bring up Gerald Wallace, let's not forget who was in front of him on the depth charts at SF. He was always going to struggle to get minutes for a few years.

You can't seriously bring up this argument while forgetting Kevin Love was in front of Williams (who they tried at PF)....

Yeah, I have to agree. While he wasn't having much of an impact as a scorer in the first half and he got a little shot happy there at the end of the game, I think this was a big step forward for IT in terms of actually playing like a starting PG. He was looking to set guys up early on and doing a pretty good job of it too. The defensive lapses are harder to fix and 17 shots on a night when they're not really falling is a problem in any context, but the way he managed the game at least for the first half is how I'd like to see him playing this season. Ben got some confidence early on and you could see his energy level go way up as a result. And the ball was moving through all 5 starters hands in the first quarter. Around 16 or 17 points a night with 8 or more assists is much better for our overall offensive efficiency than IT going for 20+ a night while our complimentary cast stands around and watches.

Also can someone tell me why Gay has never been in the All-Star game? Not even once... Yeah he's inefficient but once had a 45% shooting season, which isn't bad at all. Weird he has never been there yet is considered a star/top SF in the league....

He's the perennial borderline case. He really is the second best SF in the West, but as you can see in the Boogie All Star thread being a 19ppg SF is excellent, but there is always going to be some group ahead of you.

Wonder how people will remember him considering he has no All-Star games...

Who cares, as long as he produces for us. :D Plus he's only 27 so he some years left to make that case.

Williams is clearly doing the 'I'm not getting 30+ mpg anymore, I don't know how to contribute' thing. It's unfortunate, but not unexpected.

He's either rushing his offense to make an impact, or slowing it down to much that you don't even realize he's out there. Like I (and others) said when he was benched for Gay, it's an issue and one worth being concerned over.

He's a nobody now. He's Travis Outlaw. He's just another bench nondescript bench guy.

And it will likely stay this way until some team lets him start. Wouldn't be surprised to see him moved at the deadline again.

As much as I liked the trade and liked Williams, he and Gay operate in the same sort of way. Except Gay is much, much, much better at it. I think Williams is the kind of guy who thrives in getting extended minutes and making an impact over the course of a game. He doesn't really have the type of game where he can immediately flip the switch and score when he first comes in.

Unfortunately, Mbah is absolutely perfect for what we've developed in to. Excellent defender, can switch him onto any perimeter position, and doesn't want or need shots.

Yeah if the gay trade happened before the Williams trade then we still have moute. Although I feel Williams is the better player to have. He is a good player and still has a lot of upside where as moute is topped out and history of bad knee.

We agree???? Are you on drugs? ;) Are there other Mbah a Moutes out there. I presume so but skilled defenders don't get much media attention so I'm a tad ignorant

 It was bound to happen eventually!

As far as other "Mbah's", you got Iman Shumpert, Avery Bradley, Thabo Sefolosha, and Tony Allen. Those are the Mbah level of defenders who can operate without a ton of shots.

Is anyone geting discouraged by Williams? I am. He seems like such a great athlete but his contributions are not big at all. I'm sure the excuse will be that Rudy is here but I kinda doubt it. I don't fault the trade but I'd really like to have Mbah a Moute right now.

Actually Williams played pretty good defense, and for the most part, never touched the ball on offense. As I pointed out in the previous game, he went five and a half minutes without even touching the ball. During that period IT and Gay took every shot. I mean it really hard to fault a player if he doesn't get a chance to touch the ball.

The most I would have given him was a C+. While I give him props for his 10 assists, I just can't ignore his 6 for 17 from the floor. He also had some defensive breakdowns. The irony is that he actually defended the quicker of the two, Brooks, better than he did Lin, who got by him several times off the dribble.

Lin is taller than Brooks though, right (I honestly don't know)? It would make sense that he had to defend Lin's jumper by playing him tighter, and thus giving Lin better opportunities to get around him.

Jimmer rarely plays any extended minutes with Cousins.
