DeMarcus Cousins was going so well that at one point he went to the #Nuggets bench and said to the coaches, "Are you guys kidding me?"

Who remembers this game from DMC's rookie season?

During the pre-game warm-ups Brian Shaw walks over to DMC and says "I know what Andrew Bynum's eating for dinner tonight" (or something to that effect, I can't remember the exact quote).
Maybe some history there?

I just wanted to point out that Cousins is averaging 24 PPG 10.6RPG 1.2 SPG and 1.2 BPG.... in 29 minutes. His PER is over 30. That is just ridiculous.

I haven't been able to watch much but the buzz I am hearing on the court and amongst the fans is much needed for this team and us, as fans. I feel a rejuvenation amongst the board congrats on the amazing start Go Kings!

I'm going with 3-3. PHX, OKC, and NOP are the wins imo.

The 4-game roadtrip is very important though. We need to aim for at least .500 ball for the next four games.

Phoenix and New Orleans are the two games I most want to win. Beating Isaiah's Sun's would be really sweet for this team, and I'd love to see DMC give Anthony Davis some work.

I voted a conservative 4-2.

This team has 2 of the best players in the NBA named Cousins and Gay. Think about that for a moment. Actually, there was never a reason to be underachieving even last season, but we had that one problem. We have solved that problem with an inspiring and steadying PG in Collison. So, good times are here to stay in Sacramento.

Let's go Kings!

I think 3-3 is possible. I would love to see Cuz dominate the Pels as theres this movement in the national media wanting to hand the "next big thing" tag to AD. I agree he is a great talent, but Cuz has been far more dominant imo. Meanehilr there are still people saying "he needs to mature" "he doesnt play defense".

100% agreed. i'd love to see big cuz knock AD down a peg or two, if only for the sake of "the narrative." anthony davis is clearly a special player, but it's aggravating to see him anointed as "the next big thing" when demarcus cousins is just as primed for superstardom, but gets far less attention in the national media. more people are coming around on cousins, but within the next couple of seasons, davis is absolutely going to have to share the spotlight during "best big man in the nba" conversations...

Grades:

Referees - A (in the first half)

I'm noticing a REAL big difference in the way the refs are giving the Kings (and especially DMC) beneficial calls and non-calls, especially in the beginning of the games.

Once the outcome tonight was not in doubt, the refs started showing what a difference they can make, with bad call after bad call against the Kings.

There were a couple of times in the first half when I was positive Boogie was going to get called for a foul, and he didn't. A welcome change.

It will be interesting to see how we adjust to teams focusing in on us more now, im sure the teams on the upcoming road trip have taken notice.

Basketball is a game of match ups and the two teams that I have serious concerns about are the Suns and the Rockets, the latter of whom we don't play until the end of the month. Reason being, this Kings team has defended the paint very well but left a lot of three point shooters open. The collapse inside to stop penetration and inside scoring at the expense of sticking to perimeter players or being able to close out hard on open shooters. Unfortunately that plays into Phoenix's hands as their game is about getting the ball in the paint (big men running the floor, pick and rolls for their guards etc) and then kicking out to shooters. Houston plays a very similar game but more focused on feeding Howard in the post and Harden's penetration. Cousins should feast on the Suns bigs but if Hornacek's team is hitting their shots it could be a tough night.

I wonder how many people would have predicted a 4-1 start to this season. Would it have been greater or less than 2% of voters?

Wow, this is fun.

League Pass has its advantages. I just rewatched the game with the Denver announcers. Some selected quotes:

"You have to take advantage of these easy ones."

"[Cousins] is one of the better offensive centers in the league."

"The bigs from Denver should just watch Cousins. Watch the footwork he has."

"Rudy Gay has a quiet 19 points." "That's cause his big buddy Cousins has a loud 30."

"So (Darrell) Arthur is gone, after 16 adventure-filled minutes."

"Reggie Evans...and THAT goes in. That says it all."

"Give credit to the Kings, they've played a terrific game on both ends."

"[The free throw discrepancy] has nothing to do with the officiating. It has everything to do with the aggression of Sacramento and the lack-there-of from Denver."

"Cousins fouled out, but he had a dominant, dominant, dominant performance...he was pretty dominant"

"The Kings may be for real. They certainly look like it."

"The Sacramento Kings with an NBA season high of 131 points."

At half time, one of their assistant coaches gave an interview and basically said that they (the Nuggets) are a defensive team, and that this is totally unacceptable. In the third, there was an interesting 30 seconds where the announcers compared and contrasted the contents of their respective pockets. Also, apparently Rudy has grown to 6'10" now.

As for participating in the poll, I can't do it. Next game is the Suns. I want to win or at least maintain the high quality of our performance. I hope IT has a great game but loses. Go Kings!!!

After that I hope the same for the next game.

I remember that game. I remember being really proud of DMC and amazed at how well he performed. I watch it now and think "So what? That's just his game."

As an aside, who would have thought, four years later, that DMC would be the best center in the league and Bynum would be out of it? Crazy.

GRADES cont:

Stats: 6min 8pts (3-4, 1-2, 1-2) 0reb 0ast 1stl 0blk 0TO
McCallum ( B ) -- got in in the final 2 minutes of the first half, got out on the breakout, but got chased
down from behind by the MUCH faster Nate Robinson, and fouled with a little mustard on it. Was back for the garbage minutes, and played well, including hitting a three out of the timeout at the 2min to go to get the lead back to 23, which was good because we whipped this team by more than 23. No doubt about it, he's looked better than Sessions, although neither guy has shown/proven they can actually run the team. Its just that McCallum doesn't seem to be fighting himself on offense, and is giving the better defensive effort.

Stats: 6min 0pts (0-0, 0-0, 0-0) 0reb 1ast 0stl 0blk 1TO
Williams ( INC ) -- let's call this a gentleman's incomplete, as he only played the final 6min of garabgetime, they were kind of fugly for us in general, and his losing out at backup SF to Casspi means he's now coming in as a backup big, where he's never shown any fortitude for the banging. Got nothing accomplished, and they scored on us a lot with him out there, er, protecting the rim.

Stats: 2min 2pts (1-1, 0-0, 0-0) 1reb 0ast 0stl 0blk 1TO
Hollins ( INC ) -- didn't look like he was going to get in at all somehow despite the mega blowout, but then he final got the call in the final 2 minutes and made them count, getting scrappy and perhaps sending a message tot he Nuggets foulaholics, and getting a flying offensive follow jam. See? good things do come to those that wait.

Since Brick seems to have a problem with math :p, here's a TS% for Rudy this game - 96.66666TS%, but Boogie still edged him out at cool 100TS%.

This is how I feel most of the time when we play the Pelicans; I want Evans to murder our backcourt, but lose.

Well, except for that first meeting. That was the one and only time, in twenty-five years of being a Kings Fan, that I've ever rooted for a loss.
