Well on the positive side...um...well, this one gave me an excuse to start vetting pretty girls hours ago.

Just was no game here. Demarcus did not even play at all. Totally uninterested in competing, and just looked to pass every single time. He's never dealt with being tired well, but this looked like he'd just run a marathon and it was practice or something. John played for about 4 minutes. IT played for about 6 min when he could gun shots. he and Brooks were in mini gunner heaven. Reke played a quarter. Most everybody else quit. Likely the worst loss of the season. No real way to make it worse at least.

There's actually a good chance I would have just resorted to posting girls rather than grades here again were it not for this Grading Consortium thing we started up. But since those gluttons no doubt wasted their time putting together grades for their guys, I guess I'll have to as well. Slave drivers.

Salmons ( D+ ) -- for about 7 minutes of this one John was The Man, as he snapped off 8 points spotting up in the corners. Uunfortunately even mighty John Salmons cannot carry you when you are playing no defense, and we were already down 35-18 by the time he subbed out. And for all intents he never subbed back in as he did nothing right for the remainder of the game. When he returned he turned it over up, the shots quit falling. In the 3rd he just left the ball exposed in front and had Gallinari just reach out and take it from him and go the other way as John fouled him for the clear path foul. His game started matching his demeanor as he zoned out. --Brick

Inna -- Per rainmaker. And see, here I didn't even know there was such a thing as a Romanian pop princess. Girls threads is edumucational.

P.S. Investigating Romanian hotties is a hazardous occupation -- in this case resulting in the dumping of a very interesitng virus onto my computer with the ability to read keystrokes and divert you from repair procedures, and a several hour delay in the grades while i cleaned it up. Bad Romanian hottie! Bad bad Romanian hottie!

Thompson ( C- ) -- the numbers say sorta solid. The eye test said somewhat less. Was ineffective in the early going -- the only time ou noticed him inthe first quarter wa on one of our classic groundbound bigs extended tip sequences resulting in no points -- and while Fareid did not destroy us, Jaosn largely looked a step slow against him. When he returned for the first time he immediatelty got a +1 and added a solid baseline jumper as he played himself into a little something at least. But was having problem with Faried's energy, and all ngiht long seemed to be involved in our turnover game, either thowing it away himself, or being missed (out of position perhaps?) by others. --Brick

Cousins ( F ) -- After what I described as a lackluster night against the Thunder, Boogie followed it up with just plain lack. Two rebounds? Three points? Seriously? Cousins didn't even enter the post for his first 5 trips down the floor and spent the entire night generally looking for the quick pass rather than looking for his own offense. Still, that passing was one of two things that he did well tonight - he had the four assists, but that was on 12 shot setups. The other thing that Boogie did well was his help defense. Tonight not only did he force 4 misses on 5 shots when helping out, he also turned away at least 5 shots on help, including forcing a Lawson TO. But one of the biggest stories with Cousins tonight was something he didn't have any control over - his minutes. I know that Chuck and TRob were playing decent games, but to have Cousins sit the final 16 minutes of the first half as the game got out of hand seemed to be a bad decision. Then, for some reason Cousins actually played the first six minutes of the fourth when we were already down 32. Why? Any way you look at it, Cuz needs to be more aggressive on the boards and in the offense (especially in the post) if we're to start winning games again. I loved the help D tonight, but there's really no excuse for Cousins to NOT take over every game. --Capt.

Evans ( C ) -- First off, I'm going to be honest and admit that the game reached a point, where I stopped taking notes. With that said, Evans was one of the better players on the floor tonight. Now that may not be saying much, and what he did accomplish certainly got lost in the mess that I witnessed tonight. He started the night with Iggy hitting a shot over him, but he contested the shot. On the next posession he was almost wearing Iggy's jersey and came close to stealing the ball. He missed a tough shot at the basket in traffic, but overall, he shot the ball well. He scored 15 pts in 22 minutes going 5 fo 8 overall, and 2 for 2 from the three. I thought Tyreke was one of the few tonight that put out any effort at all. He did get careless with the ball and made a couple of lazy passes, and in the second half, he fell asleep at the wheel a few times. But the game was hardly competitive at that point, and to be honest, I would have had a hard time staying focused if I was down by 30. It wasn't one of Tyreke's best efforts by a long shot, but when compared to everyone else, he looks like an A. --Baja

Thomas ( D+ ) -- played a quiet first quarter, took a few forced shots, but also set a few guys up for good looks, and spotted up. Now on the other end he once again got roasted on defense, this time by Lawson, but offensively he wasn't causing our early issues. Things changed dramtically when he returned ot the game midway thorugh the second, and whether it was for the better or the worse I would normally let you decided, except I'm the one giving the grade here. Now what had happened, was that in the interim since IT had left, Aaron Brooks had taken over at "PG", and in somewhat comical fashion was gunning like Kobe, taking shots from anywhree and everywhere, off balance, doubled teamed, he was in mini chucker heaven. And I think IT saw that, thought hey, that looks like fun, and so when he came back in he took right over for Brooks and started doing it himself. And since the other thing that had happened was that Coach "Smart" (many quotes involved in this one) had benched all three of our best players by that point, IT took a look around and said, "green light!!" and started running up and down the court in a midget backcourt with Jimmer picking up transition buckets. He scored some, but such a garbage game. Whiel there may have been some talking to at halftime, further evidence that the burst of selfihness was lineup/coch driven came in the third, when with both Reke and Cuz back, and Reke in particular laboring to life, IT dispapeared again. Had one early turnover on a drive, missed another three, of course, but wasn't gunnign anymore. Unfortunately what he was continuing to do was get LIT UP by Ty Lawson, who went apoint a minue against IT's defense. That is what drives this grade down so far despite an ok statlinie. You don't lose games by 30 if your ok statlines are telling the whole story. --Brick

Thornton ( C+ ) -- 10 minutes!!!!! Are you kidding me? Thats all Marcus played in this game. How did someone considered our third best player on the team, only play 10 minutes. And to make matters worse, he scored 8 pts in that 10 minutes on 3 of 5 shooting overall, and 2 for 4 from the three. I'd like to also point out, that during that 10 minutes, he went almost 4 minutes without touching the basketball, while Brooks went Michael Jordan on us. Thornton was one of the few players that played with energy on the defensive side of the ball, and he caused two misses by Brewer in the short time he was in the game. On a night when MT was hitting his shots, you might think someone would leave him on the floor, and keep feeding him the ball. Not to be! --Baja

Robinson ( B- ) -- The good? Attacked the basket, earning 10 free throws. The bad? 4-10 from the line. Robinson was just too quick on his drive tonight for McGee, getting around him twice and forcing a foul both times. Robinson was working hard out there on the boards, and did a pretty good job of being Robinson the Disruptor out there, which is really what we need him to do. His defense was only so-so as he again exhibited a problem in getting distracted from the man he needs to check off - McGee got an easy lane to the basket on a loose pick-and-roll, and Hamilton came right around his turned back on the baseline for a layup. He did, however, really get in Andre Miller's face on a switch out beyond the three point line and got his hand on a pass to break up one of the million Nuggets runouts. Robinson hit two of his three baskets in transition, one on a huge dunk and another on a nice contested layup to his left. I didn't like the missed free throws, but his effort out there salvaged the grade. --Capt.

Hayes ( A- ) -- Hayes was one of the only guys that looked even remotely good out there. He was doing a little bit of everything, a couple of putbacks, lots of solid passing (and teammates solidly missing shots), good rebounding, and great defense both from the help side and on his own man. He knocked several balls away, including a slap steal on a McGee post-up attempt. Had another possession where he stopped Iguodala in transition. A good game especially when measured up against most of his teammates, but normally I wouldn't say it was enough to get into the A range. What did get him there? In the mid-second quarter when the game was already getting out of hand, Hayes got deep into the paint and hit a shot facing the basket. The Nuggets erupted for a fast break, getting ahead of the Kings (a familiar sight on the night) with only one King even in the play. Who was it? Chuck Hayes, who after his make not only outran Brooks and JJ but sprinted past Cisco and MT (who should have been back) in order to challenge the shot. Professional outing in the midst of a disaster, Chuck. Well done. --Capt.

Brooks ( C ) -- ok, here is the tough part of this grade: 1) Aaron Brooks was a miserbale selfish gunning slug out there this time. In almost every way this is the miniature selfish chucker I feared we had signed from the beginning, and why I did not want him. But 2) Aaron Brooks led the team in scoring, and did it efficiently, shooting over 50%. That was the backrop for most of his game, and most of his grade. He came in off the bench and just looked like he had flat decided he had a green light and was going to gun. And truth is? I think a lot of the over the top selfishness we see from Brooks, IT, Jimmer, Thornton, falls on Smart. They are all selfish players at heart, but now you throw them in a constant scrum for minutes, where last game Brooks gets replaced entirely by Jimmer, and the result is predictable -- he was going to come out and prove he should never have been benched, and when a selfish gunner wants to prove something like that, well, he's going to chuck. And boy did he. Not just normal shots, but shots off balance, off the drive into traffic, or just pulling up without a single pass. But like I say, I have to mute the criticism a bit because they were failling, or enough of them at least. Kobe throws up crap like that too. The only rason he isn't the most selfish scrub on the planet is that he hits them. And tonight...well, Brooks hit a few. Still ugly and disrutpive though to everyone not named Aaron. Showed his shall we say feisty side again too, getting frustrated in the second half and eventually picking up a technical. Ironically late in the game threw a gratuitous behind the back pass to Reke for a corner three in the early 4th. I have mentioend before, and will agaih, that those two actually worked pretty well together earlier in the season. I refuse to give guy who plays like this a good grade, no matter what the name on the jersey is. But I can't give a terrible one either.--Brick

Garcia ( D ) -- I was going to be kind to Cisco and give him a INC, but when I saw he actually played 16 minutes, the same amout as Jimmer, that wouldn't have been fair. Cisco did play some nice defense on Iggy and in general showed a lot of hustle on a night where it was in short supply. However he only hit one shot, and came by following his missed 3 pt'er and laying it in. Other than that, he didn't do much, including rebound. Just a bad night all the way around. --Baja

Johnson ( D ) --almsot a give up D here. Very little while the game was on, not that brooks was going to let him have the ball anyway. I think had one layup at half. Jumper never was on, never grabbed a board. Late in the garbagetime got flatfooted on a little dunk attempt and got it swatted from behind. Nothing to see here. --Brick

Fredette (D ) -- Jimmer played 16 minutes and he did do a few things right. He stole the ball twice, and he played within the offense. Unfortunately, his shot just wasn't falling tonight, and if it had, he would have gotten a C. He had one assist on a nice bounce pass to IT on the break. He also had a bounce pass that didn't get to the target for a turnover. Most of his shots were open shots, so no excuses. It just wasn't his night. But then, its wasn't the Kings night. Brutal is the word that springs to mind. --Baja

Emilia Clarke please.

And I know most if not all of us want Smart gone, but I can't imagine him getting fired until the Sacramento/Seattle fiasco is over, which means we will have to bare through with him for the rest of the season.

Honestly with the ownership up in the air so no coaching changes or trades can be made, we might as well start hoping for the most possible ping pong balls in the lottery. Kick off our new ownership/GM/coach with a nice top pick

Sounds like I should be glad I watched my son's basketball game tonight instead!

Don't they usually rig the lottery so that a new owner gets the #1 pick?

Lena Meyer please.

I was on the edge of my seat waiting for someone to snap on Smart. Is it unheard of for an opposing coach to file a complaint with the league for lack of competition?

If you rewatch this game and the Thunder one, you'll notice that any time Cousins is given the ball on the perimeter with about 13 seconds on the shotclock the whole team just stops moving. Literally, like the second Cousins gets the ball they just stop and wait on the perimeter. When Cousins gets it in the post on the other hand, you'll see Evans trying to cut to the basket and all. It's as if it's a drawn up iso play for Cousins.

This is all I'll say for now. At the top of my notes for the game from which I get my grades, I have written in large letters, Brooks Stinks

IT stank even more in this game though. Brooks wasn't very good, but certainly was not the worst of our PGs this particular game.

Have to take into account how a player is used and who's he's playing next to.

This game he wasn't good, but I'd love for you guys doing the grades to take into account the use of players, although yes, Brooks stunk tonight. If you're Brooks, don't you think you lose confidence with Smart handing IT a bunch of minutes on a platter, while IT stinks up the joint every night?

But in general none of these grades include the use of the player by Smart, which is a huge part of the equation.

Tyreke Evans is shooting 47% from the field and 39% from 3 for the year. Imagine if he was allowed to shoot more and actually play more than 30 mins a game.

This is the first game of the season i haven't watched all of.

turned off in the 3rd.

just no point watching with that kind of effort and concentration. Abysmal.

I have been thinking the exact same thing the last few weeks. New Owners, New GM, New Coach and #1 pick in the draft. Maybe some trades for more draft picks. I got my eye 6'4 PG

If there was not so much going on with the new ownership issues I would spend more time going off on this team. Their play is disgraceful. I am no Keith Smart fan, but I am more disappointed/appalled by the players. What happened to the team that I saw from Dec 23 - Jan 4th?

Why all the turnovers over the past two weeks? This team was humming with high assists and low turnovers, and then, wham, the TO virus hit. Any theories?

Most bad teams will have a stretch or two where they play well and give fans hope but they almost always return to sucking again. Look at the Wizards right now....

is it too early to root for woss?

Not at all, because it appears to me that the Kings' goal is to lose after these past few games. Turnovers abound! I was hoping for a 40 point loss because when you lose badly, you might as well lose really badly. This trip might be an a winless one... although Smart said in his post-game that he thinks there is one winnable game this trip. One! thanks coach!

Yes, everybody got healthy which meant that a lot of guys didn't get "their" minutes. Lots of selfish players on this team. They don't play hard and get very selfish with the basketball when they aren't playing as much as they think they should.

Lol. Did he really say that? This guy is a clown.

Don't think you can ever do that this year. The draft pick is not relevant. The more losses, and bad losses, the easier it is to strip the city of the team. People won't fight for it as hard. The perception will be a failed franchise with no history worth saving. Meanwhiel Reke may jsut leave as a free agent, or try to, and Cuz is always a boiling point when frustrated. You have to root for wins this time. Win or lose, a lot of problems are going to be fixed in the offseason just by the ownership change and imminent coaching/GM changes. But fallign apart could have drastic consequences otherwise.

But in general none of these grades include the use of the player by Smart, which is a huge part of the equation.

So guess the question is, just what is Brooks? Is he a PG, or is he a SG? While on the floor with Thornton, who only played 10 minutes to Brooks 27 or 28 minutes, Thornton went just slightly under 4 minutes without even touching the ball with Brooks running the show. Now I don't know what world anyone else comes from, but thats not what a PG is supposed to be doing. You want to sum up this team? Selfish and one on one basketball. Thats it in a nutshell and frankly, I'm getting dammed tired of watching it. And personally, I could give a rats A$$ who Brooks is on the floor with. Its his job as the PG to get everyone involved, and not just keep shooting the ball himself.

If your PG's aren't going to share the ball, its going to spread the desease, and everyone is going to stop sharing the ball. What does Outlaw do when he comes in. He shoots the ball! What does JJ do when he comes in? He shoots the ball. Why? Because when they get the ball, if they don't shoot it, their afraid they won't touch it again, plus, they don't know when they'll even play again. The question should be, who on the team doesn't just shoot the ball when they hit the floor? Cisco for one! He's willing to take what comes his way within the offense, whatever that is.

The only thing I take into consideration with my grades, is how often a player is ignored by his teammates. Which I did with Thornton. Its hard to downgrade him for disappearing, when no one will pass him the ball. Next game keep track of how many players pass the ball once they get their hands on it, and don't take into account when it happens with the shot clock running down. If you do that, you'll find the usual culprits over and over again. And two of them are our supposed PG's on the team. That is a recipe for losing. Ironicly, Tyreke who has taken considerable criticism on this fourm, is a pretty willing passer, as is Cousins. However, the quality of their passes is another story.
