Bricklayer

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
We'll see whether anything happens second half to actually justify my handing out individual grades. As is its a Team = F.

Records set so far:
Fewest Points In a Half in the 64 Year History of the Franchise
Fewest Opponent Points in a Half At Hoem in Mavericks History
7-41 FGs First Half (if that's not a record, it should be)
Fewest Points in a Game in the Sacramento Era (Tied)

Records still pending:
Most Fans Lost by a Franchise in a Single Debacle
Greatest Damage Done to a Coach's Credibility and Rehiring Prospects By a Single Game
Most Phone Calls Made to Jerry Sloan, Jeff Van Gundy and Larry Brown By A Single Franchise At Halftime

I am going to go ahead and post some notes here. Not grades. This game doesn't deserve grades and trying to sort out who deseres a D- and who an F would be pointless and exhausting. And I quit taking notes after a while. So these will be observations as much as grades, and no letter grade. I will go ahead and post some girls out of tradition, but there is nothing for this one really. Maybe a Kinkiest Porn Star Sex Acts thread, but we don't do those around here. I don't think there is any point in a poll on basketball either. So instead I'll put one up on the girls after I'm done.

Salmons -- actually played as well or better than jsut about any King. Which means nothing. Nonetheless for a night he wasn't the bleeding eyesore. Of course what he was doing didn't have much to do with the rest of the team per normal, but that he was doing anything at all was refreshing. Too small to guard Marion, as so far he has been to guard roughly 2/3 of the SFs in the league. Reason being, say it with me, HE'S A SG GEOFF!

Gizem Memic -- I struck an unusually rich vein here. Always on the lookout for girls for these threads, and you know that Carl's Jr. commerical with Miss Turkey and her little hamburger bikini? You know the one. Well decided to see if that really was Miss Turkey. Sure enough, it was. Meet Gizem Memic. But the rich vein is that she brought along some hot friends.

Hickson -- looked bad out there, totally overmatched by Dirk, and these sorts of consistent being overmatched things really throw question onto his future as a starter in the NBA. Because if you start you are going to face Dirk, and Blake, and Love and Amare and etc., and you can't go around looking like a college kid playing against the big boys for the first time. He grabbed some boards, did nothing else, looked confused much of the time.
Melisa+Asl%25C4%25B1+Pamuk+3.jpg

Melisa Asli Pamuk -- for instance this was Gizem's successor as Miss Turkey in 2011.

Cousins -- who knows how he was feeling, but started out the game retreating from big 7'2" Haywood all the way outside to hoist up long bricks. And given that one way you try to puncture a stifling defensive team is by clearing out a side, throwing the ball into your big post guy, and letting him beat his man 1 on 1, we just never even had a shot to do that. Began to panic, get frustrated, and throw up some wild garbage in the 2nd and 3rd. As 3rd quarter went along eventually worked his way into semi-solid numbers, but there wasn't any one play that was particularly impressive.
11891251209298.jpg

Yuksel Ak -- and this is Yuksel Ak, the Miss Universe runner up from 2000

Thornton -- who knows if he was fully healed or not as he did not look quick or explosive out there. Then again neither did anybody else. Notably worrisome was the fact that the rest fo the team's horrific shooting seemed to infect him rather than him coming back and lifting them. Predictably given hsi selfish instincts was one of the first Kings to abandon the unproductive system and start just going 1 on 1. Struggled his way up into double figures along with Cousins, but not much better than guys who didn't, just more persistent.
Gabrielle-Walcott-1.jpg

Gabrielle Walcott -- not Turkish at all, but rather another Miss Universe runnerup, this one from Trinidad & Tobago. Not really fair a nation of about a million people gets to have her.

Evans -- maybe it all caught up to him. Been playing 40 minutes a night and jsut shouldering the load offensively, last game almost shouldering it alone. 4th game in 5 nights. Maybe the legs just weren't there. But its also true the Mavs defense was excellent, there wre no lanes, and when Reke tried to force a few basically every single time a Mav either got his hand onthe ball for a strip or their shtoblockers sent it back out (note to Geoff: shotblockers > no shotblockers). did continue to give good effort on defense, whic is good since you need that to be a hbait. But worst, and most helpless looking offensive game for him since...? Coming off 4 25+ pt nights in the last 5, just headscratching.
3773271344_0768c37477.jpg

Micaela Reis -- and as long as we are doing Miss Universe runners up, how about Micaela Reis from Angola in 2007?

Garcia -- and now we come to Cicoco, and I have a question here. Can Cisco no longer shoot? Because it looks that way. And it looks like he knows it and is avoiding it aat all costs. The alternate explanation is that this is all some over exaggerated attempt to be the super glue guy because of somethign Smart told him, and he has just gone overboard with it. Either way he is providing no offense at all anymore. Rarely shooting, and not hitting when he does, and along the way he's just completely punchless, and on a night like tonight that was nothing we could afford.
Giorgia-Palmas-i164724.jpg

Girogia Palmas -- how about Giorgia Palmas from Italy, the 2nd runner up in 2000?

Jimmer -- you know a major problem Jimmer is having? Its the classic one you fear with high scoring college guards who are used to having the ball. He's just not comfortable just catching and shooting. He blows that play a couple of times a game in order to pull it down, dribble it, let the very long defender smother him, and get in trouble. The one time he did it tonight, he hit his only shot. Otherwise, still not getting it. Gave some defensive effort early. Had a little spurt of semi-competence in the second half making a couple of good passes, but still looking overwhelemd tryign to score. Really does look like the college kid surrounded by trees. Now 14-51 shooting in his last 7 games.
78210780.jpg

Perla Beltran -- or Mexico's Perla Beltran, runnerup in 2009

Greene -- and no, nto this game. if there has been an advancement with Donte is an advancement of a guy now willing to play as a roleplayer within a system. But when the system breaks down, as it did tongiht, he's thrown back out into space to try to create shots from nothing etc., and that is just not what he is good at, or where any future he has lies.
salma-hayek-hot-sexy-01.jpg

Salma Hayek -- and here we finally work aroudn to this one just for Slim, using the connection that she too is Mexican by birth.

Thomas -- and nope, not tonight. In fact in another of those mysteriosu rotation thigs that saw Reke returned to the game in the 4th with us down 27, little IT barely played. And when he did he did not look good, forcing the action trying to make too much happen and turning it over in the process. Maybe he was just depressed to see that his competition with Jimmer for the backup PG spot was apparently not going to be determined by productivty, but rather by rep and draft position.
sabrina_houssami_a1.jpg

Sabrina Houssami -- and this is Austrailia Sabrina Houssami, who was 2nd runner up Miss Universe in 2009

Outlaw -- actually got unbanished after obviously being so terrible that he managed to stand out from our other terrible SF options in terribleness and lose Smart's confidence. Didn't score and may never again at this rate, but at least got feisty on one rebound in there. In a 40pt blowout these are the things for which you have to settle.
600full-rachel-mcadams.jpg

Rachel McAdams -- I just felt like using her after having seen a movie she was in the other night. And see? Just like that that's how you go about building an entire thread worth of hot ladies while only using 1 off your accumulated lists. When you got it you got it. Now if only the team had it.

Wow, just wow. Games like this make it hard to be a glass half-full guy.

Umm, we held an opponent to under 100 points on the road?

This team needs to learn to pass the ball.. We wont win without a PG plain and simple.. F- for the whole team.

It didn't even look like we got 5 assists let alone 10.. Was surprised to see that stat because I didn't count more than 5.

Our starting back court played 64 minutes and managed a total of 4 assists. How about a new grade? The "wtf" grade?

The defense looked pretty good for awhile. Then I could not watch anymore.

I have never seen a NBA basketball team shoot the ball so poorly.

KB

Soooo.... is it too late to give this team to Anaheim and have Stern give us an expansion team or even the Hornets?

Chicken and egg -- on a night wehn you are shooting less than 20% there aren't going to be many assists.

We seriously need to change the makeup of this team because, the players themselves are good, they just don't fit AT ALL...

Easier said than done. I don't think they're going to do it in FA or the draft, it's going to have to be a trade. Too many 1/2 combos on this team and not enough upfront. If I were Kings GM (not that Petrie hasn't considered these things) I would try and trade Tyreke Evans for Rojon Rondo. Then I'd try and trade one of Thornton/Jimmer along with a pick or fillers for a quality C like Bogut or Okafor.

Team would look something like this

C - Okafor or Bogut
PF - Cousins
SF - Salmons (we’re probably stuck with him now)
SG - Jimmer or Thornton
PG - Rondo

I’m no basketball genius but in my opinion that would be a much more balanced team than they have now.

need a true center on the bench so we can start Thompson next to Cousins. Need a defensive roleplaying SF, Donte's our best, but might not be good enough to hold the spot down, backed up by a pure shooter. Need a 3rd guard who is a veteran who knows how to create. Spare parts right now looking like all those extra offensive players that Westphal may or may not have wanted. Hickson, Salmons, even Jimmer, although as always with draft picks we won't know for sure for a while. those aren't the guys you need for all those spots. In fact allow me to go back to the end of the summer and gather these three players to our roster: Dalembert, Beno and Kirilenko and we would be FAR better off balancewise. We'd still be young and prone to bad days, but nto like this.

The Mavs announcers reminded me that it's been 6 years now since we made a playoff appearance. That was in 2006. Wow! And Mavs continued to be in the playoff since our glory days with Webber et. al. I used to like the Nowitzki vs Peja on those days. Now they still got Nowitzki as their centerpiece and Kings are uhm...

I almost went teary eyed realizing I stick with this team for freak'n years of losing. I hoped we could finally be in the playoff this season. But looking at things, with all Free Agent fiasco, Westphal charades, shortened season, backtobacktobacks, and mostly only 1 day off for practice in-between games.I think only a miracle could put us back to the playoff this season. Sigh! I'm not giving up just frustrated for like the X to the Y times.

For the sake of optimism, here's my wish for this season.
1.) Salmons goes to the bench and become more effective as a backup SG.
2.) Whiteside gets playing time as our back-up C.
3.) Donte plays starter SF with tighter screws on his head.
4.) Fredette stops trying to be a playmaker when this team totally got zero set plays and just goes out of head and shoot the lights out.
5.) Evans continues to dominate and not have OFF nights like this.
6.) Demarcus gets Rasheed Wallace tips on how he got his act going in Detroit.
7.) Everyone on this team STOPS thinking like a full charge BULL that keeps driving even with 3 or 4 guys are waiting in the rim.

Wow what a dud of a game. Oh well, can't say I'm surprised. Glad to see Thornton back, but he didn't play well.

From your lips to the Great God Naismith's ears.

Wow what the hell happened tonight? Just got to see the box score..... MT was back but it looks like Reke sunk into nothingness with him back?

That's fairly pathetic, basically shut down Tyreke and a worse mirror of the Rockets game? Was it a lot of one on one again or people just not hitting shots?

The Mavericks played great D, but no, obviously in something like this you are helping them along a ton. No energy, no legs, and no answers once our initial plays and first options were taken away. Just one of those things. They could play us 40 times and never whip us this bad again. Oh, probably beat us the vast majority of them, but not this. this was just hopeless. We were 4-25 by the end of the first quarter. Nobody could hit anything.

This was one of the worst basketball games ive ever seen in my life, it literally looked like a bunch of guys picked out of a gym to play pickup ball vs an NBA team.

Literally no one knows their role

Salma Hayek is half Mexican half Lebanese. A lot of people don't know that. Same with Shakira; half Columbian half Lebanese ;)

And on the night when you aren't passing the ball you aren't going to get many good looks.. Goes both ways, Brick.

That's why I said chicken and egg. That's what the phrase means.

But our guys weren't unusually selfish to start this game. As in break the offense selfish until later in the game. We were however chased out of everything we wanted to run and forced to throw up tough shots against the clock time and again. A large part of this might have been no more complex than Smart having a week with very few practices to put in some basic sets, and the Mavs taking a look at the basic sets and breaking them leaving us without anywhere ot go.

This team terrible, and I don't necessarily believe practice is going to help them put the ball in the basket. The few open shots they get they can't make. The franchise has regressed every year since adelman left, and the whole "be patient, they're young" mantra is wearing thin. Maybe it's time to find a new gm.

You know what I can't understand? I can't understand why we have so many players that will hold the ball before taking the shot. It's like ... if you're going to be selfish and chuck shots the least you can do is to do it straight away once it's passed to you, so that the defender isn't actually set. How does it ever make sense to get the ball in the corner while you're slightly open, hold the ball until the defender comes closer, then throw up a 3 anyway? This isn't even a matter of selfish/1 on 1 players - it's just plain stupidity.

This team is so poorly assembled it's not funny at all. Say what you want about Tyreke not being a PG, but our offense certainly did not look this bad the past 2 years. I'm getting sick and tired of watching us running proper plays and getting guys open, only to have them miss shot after shot. We at least looked competitive the past few years, we stayed in games and lost a lot of them by a couple of points/ missing FTs/ dumb fouls in crunch time. Now we're pretty much losing every game in the first 5 minutes. Someone pay me millions of dollars to just run around for 5 minutes then play pick up ball, please.
