If you were looking for evidence of Westphal's failings last nights game is about as good as it gets. The total inability to adjust to match ups coupled with another nonsensical starting lineup. At least Luther Head didn't get off the bench for this one.

Also, we play some of the worse zone defense I have ever seen at any level. The rotations, on corner threes in particular, is painful to watch.

Thanks for these threads Brick. I enjoy the site in general, but these threads keep me coming back, pretty girls or not.

He doesn't have the talent that everybody thinks he does. Just because somebody is 6'10" and considered a guard or small forward doesn't automatically mean he's talented. I think the last part of your post is spot on. He's a goof ball. Doesn't work hard and doesn't have any motivation. It's hard to respect that. The only way that PW can get him to change his ways is to do what's he's doing to him.

You just proved I don't have to use so many words. :)

J. Taylor: 24:38 <----This should not happen.
P. Jeter: 40:53 <----This should not happen.
D. Greene: 1:25 <----This. This, right here is why I am pissed off that...(see lines above)

Paul Pierce was tearing Cisco up. I mean TEARING him apart. Greene should have been given a chance. Period. Some of the 40:53 (at least 20 minutes of it) should have been thrown at Greene.

The rotations today transformed my feelings toward Westphal from dislike to disdain. Even my girlfriend, who has watched maybe one NBA game in her life, said: "That dude is making that other dude look like a little boy. Why isn't your team fixing that?"

Ridiculous. Paul Pierce is good, but we can at least TRY to adjust. To be honest, I know you gave Cisco an F, but it's Westphal's fault for putting him in a position to get owned. I can't blame Cisco for being physically dominated by Pierce. That's not really in his control.

/Rant.

Paul Pierce is a Hall of Famer, an absolute great player. Putting Donte on him would be like a gnat on an elephant. We have nobody on this team that is anywhere remotely as good as Paul Pierce.

Pierce is excactly the calss of player that Greene has often disrupted -- he bully balled Cisco, who goes 195. Isn't goign to beat you with quickness and he doesn't have great lift. Greene stands 6'11" and weighs probably 240+. You don't bully ball him as a SF. Even Artest found that impossible. If Pierce was really hot from outside or something maybe Pierce gets him too, but it wouldn't have been the same way, and we never got to find out.

And really here, even if Westphal's bizarre Donte behavior is left out of it, we didn't even try Casspi on him. Or a double. Or a big lineup, or anything.

I read this as "might as well keep the same guy on him even though we know it doesn't work."

I don't care if Paul Pierce is Michael friggin Jordan. You do not keep doing something you know isn't working. Period.

Brick - as always, thank you for your rationality.

Somewhere in the midst of this my brother texted me that Westphal said they'd tried everything and that Pierce was just a great player. I nearly spit up my hot chocolate (we are having a blizzard you know).

Wow....I was on the Black Velvet by then. It works better for both situations.

As far as Pierce we should have not covered him at all. It would have looked better in the box score. They had 8 guys in double digits...I think the whole team stunk it up defensively. Not just Cisco.

The only thing i remember from Donte yesterday was his airball 3

Anyway, i dont think we had any chance to win this game, the Celtics have much more talent and depth

However i do think we couldve played it a lot smarter

Having been the skinny guy on the court getting bullied by the bigger guy, I sympathize with Cisco's plight. There's not much he can do one on one against Pierce, and the fact we never tried Casspi or Greene or a double on him is squarely on the coaches. I say coaches because it's hard to believe that Westphal's assistants never suggested anything, but... I guess the game speaks for itself.

Westphal gets another F, so what's his GPA for the season?

I tend to agree. I don't think Cisco lost the game.

I think as slow as he is he'd find a way to beat Greene. I think Jeter plays guard better than Greene. All Westphal gets for protecting me from having to watch Greene is continuing criticism. I give him credit for going out every day and trying to shuffle this bunch of players to the best effect possible. I suspect when Greene is ready Westphal will play him.

Why exactly would Greene have been playing guard again?

And your own stubborn refusal to recognize Green's merits aside, he did just fine against Paul Pierce & these Celtics last year. In fact last year we played Boston pretty tough starting Greene and Casspi together at the forwards one game (I think Greene had Garnett that game if I rememer correctly, and held him to 8 points), and Greene and Landry the next. Greene averaged 34min/gm against them. Pierce had 17pts (5-15FG) in one game 22 (6-16FG) in the other. Shot well under 50% both games, and we lost by single digits both times (95-92, 94-86).

Same players, same coach, only the coach has forgotten everything he ever knew or learned -- he's an idiot. I know his own players better than he does. And so he barely plays Casspi or Greene, and we get killed, with Pierce just walking in to score a point a minute on 80% shooting. Having a bug up your butt about Greene doesn't require you to sanction such foolishness.

All depends on what kind of bug it is.. You don't ever want one that has a flashlight..
