Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Well...it beats being beat by 45 right?

10-37, which for those of you keeping track is a 17 win pace nearly 60% of the way through the season. 35 games remaining, to reach 30 wins we would need to go 20-15. Highly unlikely. So any team you see reach 30 wins has escaped us. 15-20 to reach 25 wins. Unlikely, but remotely possible I suppose. Kind of a cutoff point -- if somebody gets above 25 I'm feeling pretty confident we finish beneath them.

Tonight's theme, as promised an amalgaration brought to you by the posters who correctly guessed the spread in the Cavs game, will be, um...let's see...carry the 2...dot the i...divide by 17....ok, got it: Top Old School Long Haired Sci Fi Wrestling Chicks "Owned" By Chris Webber During His Career.

Um...

Ok, so I'll work on it.

P.S. As an aside, on a positive note we did this week finally acheive our long pursued #30 in a power rankings (and note tonight it was #30 vs. #1):
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/powerranking

Salmons ( B ) -- and yet more of the same here. Did a good job of moving the ball in the early going, and joined the rest of the team in the hot shooting. Canned a three, but did not stand out with everybody knocking down their shots. Was taken even further out of it as the Celtcis defense surged toward that swarming crescendo it sometimes reaches, and John was facing doubles and traps and having to give the ball up. But came alive offensively at the end of the 3rd, and nudge me if you have heard this before, carried over the hot shooting into the 4th quarter where he got the bulk of his numbers. Of course we were down by double figures the entire second half, so it did not matter, but I suppose you can say that we at least stubboirnly refused to be beaten by 30. Ironic thing is that if John were on a title contender and scoring like this in the 4th quarter he would be like some crunchtime Michael Jordan supergod. But on maybe the worst team in the league he is a garbagetime statpadder. On the other end Pierce, and really none of the Big Three, did much of anything, although major foul trouble played a factor, and he was racking up assists.
33-99767-F.jpg

George "the Animal" Steele -- hey, one of the suggestions was 1980's wrestlers, and so here ya go. I also am still feeling guilty about not doing a Pretty Guys thread yet for the ladies, so the sexiness that was The Animal will have to hold them over.

Thompson ( A- ) -- was part of our hot smooth start working against Perkins for the most part. But began to have turnover problems as the Cs defense picked up and then sat out almost the whole 2nd quarter as we experimeted with such impact players as Sheldon Willimas and Mikki Moore. But returned in the third for some nice in control offensive work, inside and out. It was already kind of semi-garbagetime, but Thompson was undoubtedly the guy keeping us within...er...less embarrasing losing distance. Finsished inside with solid non panicked niftiness. Put the final 20-10 sheen on this deep into the garbagetime against the likes of Bill Walker and Patrick O'Bryant, and combined with the slower start, enough for the "-" here. But a very good game and obviously our bright point.
nelson002.jpg

Nelson - More sexiness for the ladies! Another request was for 80's hair metal bands. And these brothers had it. Hair that is. Calling what they played metal would make many a purist choke on his mini-wheats. After the rain...

Miller ( C ) -- in the early going actually seemed to be making an uncommon effort inside on defense, but on offense responded to the Celtics pressure by just running away out beyond the three point arc and chucking away like Antoine Walker had returned to Boston. Then once the jumpers stopped falling...was not helping. Never did much on the glass, but other than a couple of plays where the athletic difference was thrown into stark relief, did not have any real problems with Garnett on defense. the Celtics were content to just whip us with their PGs and didn't need to break any of the Big Three out to do it.
The_Macho_Man_Randy_Savage_-_Randy_.jpg

Macho Man Randy Savage -- and so what do you get when you combine lots of hair with 80's wrestling? Why Macho Man Randy Savage of course!

Martin ( C ) -- played a pretty strong first half carrying over from the Cavs game. Wasn't about to guard Allen in the early going, but scored back the other way himself before the Celtics tightened things. Second quarter was more of a struggle, as he got to the line, but didn't hit his FTs, and the defense around the perimeter forced him into a number of bricks. Still got his points though and was sitting on 14 at halftime. But that was pretty much that as he largely disappeared after half. Still got his minutes, but was doing nothing out there with them and what had started out looking like it might be a poretty good game, actually ended up below average. May have run out of steam in the second half after the Cavs effort a night before. If so more troubling questions about his endurance, as something similar happened in the Toronto game. After the inital burst by Allen, Ray didn't do much the rest of the way, but Kevin was one of the defenders torched by House in the second. Soemwhat curiosuly tonight I saw him making a better than usual effort to actually recover and challenge shots, but he just looked confused on where he was supposed to be, and where his man had went, while the play was developing.
princess_leia_gold_bikini.jpeg

Princess Leia -- another request was for scifi chicks, and so I took an obvious one. Actually did a "girls of Star Trek" theme sometime last year, or maybe even the spring before that, and have also noted Morena Baccarin of Firefly/Serenity, as well as Colonel Deering of Buck Rogers. Think I will just add the Star Wars babes here and pocket the remaining non-Star trek, non-Star Wars "Girls of Sci Fi" as the next Pretty Girls theme. As an aside, have you ever noticed how all alien species, no matter how different their biology and repulsive looking they may be to us, think human girls are hot? Here we had a 20 foot long giant slug, and he(?) too was in slug heat over our cute little princess. Of course how could he resist with the whole harem girl in bondage thing going on.

Udrih ( D- ) -- the only one of the starters not hot in the early going, as Rondo blew by him at will before he got into foul trouble. Only lasted a coupe of minute in the third before Natt pulled him again for Brown. May have actually doen a better job challenging House on his threes than either Brown or Martin, but still got burned before fouling out having accomplished basically nothing. Now it sounds like there may be hope we can move him too at the deadline. Maybe the best way to up his value is to just quit playing him the way this has been going. Last three games: 6pts 5ast, 8pts 5ast, 4pts 3ast.
padme_full.jpg

Princess Padme -- now this was the other Princess's mother...even though she is actuallly young enough to be her daughter, see? I've obviously tagged Natalie before in other Pretty Girls threads, she was drafted in the Hot Babes summer thread, I have even noted that her double in the first movie was none other than Keira Knightley. But hey, always worth another look and it was a direct request per rules of the contest, right? Alas George Lucas is a completely incompetent filmmaker and could not figure a way to get her into her own harem getup.

Brown ( B- ) -- came in and immediately hit a three and got most of the run in the second quarter with Beno in foul trouble and ineffective. Of course that period was also the one where the Celtics scored 40 on us and blew open the game. And Bobby was part of that. Despite the numbers (11 shots, 0 assists) he was actually not playing a terribly selfish game. He obviously created no shots for anybody, but he was bringing it up and getting us into our offense, and 4-11 shooting aside, he looked pretty good on offense. the problem was on the other end. He actually tried to play defense on Rondo, to at least stay in front of him, but he got completely torched by Eddie House -- where was the "turn the spinkler system on!" call when you needed it. Was in quickly in the third for Beno and hit another three in those minutes. But you may want to take a look in the mirror when you get replaced, for defense, by Beno Udrih. But that's exactly what happened in the 4th with Bobby absolutely refusing to stay with House on the perimeter, leading to various Kings just making last second runs toward him as he popped free again and again. Eddie is one fo the league's great streak shootrs and can scorch even an attentive defender, but you leave him alone and let him get rolling...yikes.
cinderella512.jpg

Cinderella -- well as long as we are into the girls portion of this muddled theme, thought I would drop in these, er, guys. Had a girl's name for the group. Dressed like girls (well skanky girls). But hey, if you could survive the whine in the mid-80s they were actually one of the more talented hair metal groups and came up wiht a couple of big hits with Nobody's Fool and Coming Home. Bizarrely they faded from the scene after they started mixing their ultra glam mascara wearing hair metal with a country twang. Can just imagine the scene as these guys pulled up to a honkey tonk bar dressed like that.

Hawes ( C ) -- it was the misadventures of Spencer Hawes in the second quarter. Seemed to be active on the glass, and yet the undersized Boston reserves repeatedly got inside him to grab reboudns. Made a nice pass, but continued to finesse up his inside shots and miss them. Got picked at midcourt by Big Baby, but showed good hustle chasing him down the other way. The Big Baby matchup would acutally become the storyline this time out for Spencer, as the Celtics don't really have a backup center, and the 6'8" 270+ lb Big Baby is it. Spencer towered over him, had all the length, and yet Big Baby was getting the better of it. Repeately getting inside him for rebounds, layups, a big dunk. He picked him midcourt, bounced him on defense. It was funny to watch.
andre5.jpg

Andre the Giant -- and see here, I am setting up the last part of this muddled theme with another famous 80s wrestler. Andre truly was giant, maybe not quite the 7'4" 500lbs he was listed as by wrestling promoters, but 7'0" 350-400 lbs was not much of an exaggeration. Thing was he was also one hell of a nice guy, and will long be remembered for an endearing role he played in the classic The Princess Bride (and I am getting uncomfortable about how often I have to refer to a movie or whatnot that I clearly remember hitting the theaters when I was young as a "classic". Kind of makes me a "classic" now doesn't it?

Cisco ( D ) -- this was a starnge outing for Cisco as it did not even feel like him out there. Completely ineffective first half stint that saw his minutes shortened, and Natt did not even bother putting him back in until the 4th. And he still gave nothing. No fie, no pop, not even any of his glorious moments of stupidity. Just..nothing. Very odd.
[yt= Webber Schools Tsakalidis]L2cUVr674PQ[/yt]
Webber Schools Tsakalidis -- the last of the requested themes was in honor of the upcoming jersey retirement -- guys Webber schooled. And so hence my Andre the Giant tie in, because the first of the Webber schoolings is going to be his famous playoffs wraparound embarassing Big Jake Tsakalidis, then of the Suns. Ring around the big stiff!

Williams ( INC ) -- whoa, another Shelden sighting as I think Natt wanted to match tree stump with tree stump on Big Baby, who was msucling our other frontline weenies. Unfortunately it did not work, and Sheldon was gone a few minutes later never to return.
Nine seconds into the game, Chris Webber slammed John Stockton to the floor. Forty-seven minutes later, he was still towering over the Utah Jazz...
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/1999/05/11/archive/main46586.shtml
Webber Knocks Stockton on His Keister -- I was unable to find a youtube or even a still of this moment, so an article will have to do. One of the defining moments of the early golden era Kings, after being blown out of Game 1 of their '99 first round series against the Jazz, 9 seconds into game 2 in Salt Lake City, Webb stepped up and sent a message, knocking Stockton on his *** and letting them know that we weren't going to be pushed around any longer.

Moore ( INC ) -- replaced the ill fated Shelden experiment as we went from short and stubby top long and skinny. Not terribly effective either, although always has had a good build to look Garnett in the eye. With Jason playing well, never returned after half.
[yt=Webber Behind Back on Barkley]I3qpJTE7vy8[/yt]
Webber Behind Back on Barkley -- a very famous dunk from before we had Webb, and a passing of the torch moment.

Greene ( INC ) -- poor Donte. You begin to understand why he's jsut assume be in Reno. We were never closer than 12 in the second half, in Boston. We are not goingto win that game. Ever. But Donte still did not get in until the final 3:00, and when he did never even got a shot, or anything else for thta matter. Just a waste.

Webber's night ended early when he and Vin Baker were ejected with 5:09 left in the game following an altercation under the Kings' basket.

"I don't know what he did, Mr. Tough Guy," Webber said. "I don't know how it started. It wasn't that physical. He's kind of soft, so it isn't that physical when you play him. He just wanted to be tough for a minute, and I've been nice to him for 2 1/2 years. He wanted to get tough, so I had to remind him what time it is."
Link
Webber Makes Vin Cry -- another famous old incident with no obvious youtube or pic. Vin Baker was sinking into the bottle and the Twinkies by this time, Webber was peaking into near-MVP form. And Vin just snapped while Webber whispered sweet nothings in his ear, reportedly trying to chase Webb down in the halls beneath the stadium afterwards. Meanwhile we blew the Sonics off the court, and poured 71 points in in the second half as we sent a message.

Ooh Ooh!!!...I have another question for the poll: What the hell was Geoff Petrie doing drafting Quincy freaking Douby instead of Rajon Rondo?!?!

Actually, mine was "none of the above", or more specifically, "why didn't Greene touch the ball once in his four minutes at the end?" I mean, one touch, that's all I ask.

A lot of great options, but a few I can forgive.

  • Bobby Brown barely gets to play, him leaving house open WILL be corrected I'm sure.
  • Brad Miller in the paint? You were joking when you made that option about him chucking 3's right?
  • Spencer Hawes - I'm almost convinced Brad Miller's attitude has worn off on young Spence in a NEGATIVE way.
  • Beno is just Beno....
  • Donte - I feel for ya. Should have been left in Reno until Kings pull some trades or decide to actually PLAY you.
Which leads me to what I voted for, WHY is arguably the best player for the Kings each night always hitting the bench for guys like Moore, K9, Sheldan to get minutes? JT finished with his first Double Double, and probably only because Natt lost track of his stats in time to pull the kid.

I know people want to try to get the highest value we can for the likes of Miller and Salmons, but at a certain point we take the best deals we can get just to get rid of the aura of them. Trying to hold out for the best possible deal and not getting a trade and keeping Miller around to me will hurt our team more then taking an expiring + pick. That's my 2 cents anyways

Yeah, guess I would have liked "all of the above" in the poll too. They played 3 pretty good road games, compared to previous road trips, so tonight was to be expected. Somehow, other than Beno trying to get at guards above the arc everyone else seems afraid of the 3 pt line on defense. It's as if their fear is they will incinerate stepping over the line to get in the face of a hot 3 pt shooter. Instead they throw more logs on the fire and get incinerated.

Jason shows some improvement every game. Spencer has to get his temper under control and get control of his game. And as some above have said, "WHERE THE H_ _ L IS DONTE?" If they brought him back after just 5 games seems they intend to play him......... or not?????

Oh well. For us fans sake I hope a trade gets done soon to help divert our attention from the hell the team and we are in. BTW, I'm 100% behind Coach Natt. The defense, up until tonight, was improved/improving. It just doesn't happen all at once.

Celts announcer Tommy Heinsohn made an interesting comment about how the Celtics have great comraderie and how they always encourage and support each other, of course it is easier when you are 38- 10.

In contrast Shelden Williams entered the game and substituted for Jason Thompson they passed by each other without a hand slap, fist bump, even eye contact!!! Heinsohn said it looked like two strangers passing in the night....I thought there's a nice little microcosm of this season in a nutshell... ladies and gentleman, YOUR 08-09 Sacramento Kings!!!!

That was Jason's 8th double double. Also he has been 1 reb away 4 more times.

I like the poll, but where the hell is an all of the above option?

He NEVER gives an all of the above. That's what makes it so tough. You can't cop out; you really have to study the choices and agonize over your decision.

;)

Says you; as soon as I saw what I was looking for, I didn't even bother reading the rest of the poll options... And I don't think I need to tell you which one I voted for, either... :p

Something about a 3-pt shooting center, I would hazard.... ;)

Didn't get to see the game... but I voted for the Donte option. I mean seriously - we gave up Ron for him... C'mon get him some time and shots...

Also, how in the bloody world does Eddie House make 8 (EIGHT!!) 3 pointers???? Wow. Just wow.

We are horrible defending the three point shot thus resulting in teams/players making career/season/record high's from beyond the arc...

Oh and its not just beyond the arc we are terrible defensively :D

Gee, Kings don't defend the 3 and don't defend the paint. So, no Wow Now for these guys. They don't even soak up many loose balls either. Knowing they don't defend the paint may well have biased them so badly that they are afraid to go out and get in the face of the 3-pt shooters.

Solution? New blood. A couple of new faces, one at the 5 and an "in-your-face" guard.

But as Brick said, at least they didn't loose by 45!!!! Good 1st Q and some good moments in the 4th bench vs. bench.

It wasn't that long ago that the camaraderie and chemistry on the Celtics was dismal at best. Look back to the latter days of Antoine Walker and Paul Pierce glaring at each other, sitting as far apart from each other as possible while still being on the same bench, etc.

Comparing the current Celtics to the current Kings is misleading and irrelevant. If you want to make comparisons, compare the team chemistry and attitude with other teams in similar situations...

Um, not exactly.

We found someone to take the nutjob off our hands (see the current Artest thread in the NBA forum for the latest antics of that fun-loving Ron-Ron) and were lucky enough to receive more back than a half-eaten sandwich and some stale chips.

It's been stressed recently by Coach Natt and a couple of his teammates that Kevin isn't at 100% yet. While I don't disagree with the grade, based on the performance, I do disagree - therefore - with the part I bolded. Four games in five nights is bad enough for someone who didn't miss a considerable chunk of the season. When you add in how much he's been playing since he came back, PLUS the 5th game effect, PLUS the total effort he put forth the night before in Cleveland, I think it would be almost predictable that he would run out of gas.

Just my three cents, of course.
