When we were the #2 seed how many of those players did we get from the draft?
How many did San Antonio get from the draft? How many did Phoenix draft? Does the fact that Dallas got their two best players in the draft mean anything? When we were the #2 seed how many of those players did we get from the draft?
That's not particularly accurate: you don't have to get the best players in the draft IF you already HAVE an elite player. So to answer your question. 3 by San Antonio but Duncan was the only one that was a high draft pick. 2 by the Suns both of which were the 9th pick. Dallas 1 and he was the 29th pick. Meaning you don't have to have the 1st pick to build your team and you don't even have to get your best players from the Draft there are other options.
A draft day TRADE is not the same as tanking the season to go for the best draft pick. The Kings are very capable of making a draft day trade after the season.
I don't follow the draft history of the Mavericks. OK they drafted him. But as you can see by my example you can get good players through trade and free agency as the other teams listed (SA, Dallas, Phoenix, etc) did. We don't have to sit on our hands and hope the team loses. Just my thoughts. If the team continues to lose and we get a good draft pick, fine. If we get the 8th seed and go to the playoffs and lose in the first round, fine. If we get the 8th seed and go further, great. No matter which way we go we can make deals and get good players they just have to be willing to break up the team if needed. But I am not going to cheer for losses, that just doesn't sound like a team player to me. Just my 2 cents.
2) being willing to lose now is the EPITOME of team player. It sucks. Its no fun to watch. But you are willing to endure/suffer it for the betterment of the franchise. If anything its the other side which has a selfish tinge to it -- not willing to endure losing ever even if it makes for a better tommorow.
I don't know how you could possibly say that. Winning is THE only thing that matters. You may not like the players but if they lose they lose their jobs. You may not like the coach but if he loses he loses his job. Same with the GM and Assistant coaches. You name it, everyone. I don't think their are a lot of people that are going to be happy with this "we have to lose" mentality. The fans don't want to see it. As a matter a fact if they lose they probably won't get a new stadium and end up in Anaheim. Since I live in Sacramento I don't want that to happen. You can sit around a rout for losses for the "better" of the team but I am going to hope they make a playoffs spot and (as unrealistic as you might think it is) a championship. Because as fans that is what we are supposed to do.

Winning an extra 10 games this year and maybe getting into the PO as an 8 seed to get bounced in the first round is more important to you than possibly getting your young stud for the next decade and winning an extra 150 games over that period? Huh. Interesting math....![]()
The season is only half over and we are sitting 3 games out of the 8th spot.
Neither is a guarantee. The bouncing or the stud.![]()
I said it back on the first page, and I'll say it again: Hoping for a playoff berth in a deep draft year when we can't win it all anyway is beyond stupid. The season is only half over and we are sitting 3 games out of the 8th spot. I just think we are cashing in our chips a bit too soon.
Oh my goodness, Slim. Tell us how you REALLY feel!I said it back on the first page, and I'll say it again: Hoping for a playoff berth in a deep draft year when we can't win it all anyway is beyond stupid.
WE can't win now. We CAN'T win now. We can't WIN now. We can't win NOW. WE. CAN'T. WIN. NOW. Fighting for the eighth seed (And for what, anyway? To get our brains beat out by Dallas? Oh Boy!) when we have a unique opportunity to try and get a franchise player in the draft is a ****ing waste of of time.
THANK YOU!I said it back on the first page, and I'll say it again: Hoping for a playoff berth in a deep draft year when we can't win it all anyway is beyond stupid.

But one doesn't come out and go, hey guys we are cashing it in today.
There's a way of making rebuilding plans clear without holding a press conference to announce the decision to suck. Things aren't that black and white, and I'm starting to think that those arguing that they are that clear cut are doing so just to be obstinate.
It is possible, however, to make moves that indicate a distinct plan or goal. If there was some movement towards youth, or a jettisoning of our middling vets, or acquisition of ending contracts and/or additional draft picks, it would send a very clear message that there was, finally, a direction. A path. A goal. A plan.
There is not, at any point, a big team meeting in which the players are told to try less hard. There is not, at any point, an email sent out to season ticket holders to let them know that the team is going to lose the next few games on purpose. But everyone still knows when the real rebuilding has begun. All we've got are cryptic comments about patience and oodling. And our most significant movement has been to waive one player that saw no playing time in order to sign another player who sees no playing time.
