well i was surprised today when i just went to NBA.com and the first thing i saw was a picture of DMC on the main page. its nice to see the Kings get some attention.

i find it very interesting that the writer of the article thinks Brooks is the starting PG and Thorton the starting SG and Tyreke will have to prove himself at SF. while i think many of us here feel that Isaiah is the starting PG, Reke the starting SG, and the 3 spot up for grabs

SHC, as a fomer Bee writer, is one of the few national figures who cares enough to write about the Kings. Unfortunately all too often what he writes doesn't make any sense at all.

He's under the impression that Tyreke is going to continue being our starting SF. Said so in the offseason report card thing as well.

He's also under the impression we are going to run our offense through Thomas Robinson. He is under a lot of impressions. Its entirely possible that the one national writer who cares about the Kings may actually be wrong about who is going to be starting at 4 of the 5 spots in the lineup this year. What does that say?

Who are the starting five for the Kings?

At this point I think DMC is the only lock for the starting lineup at center. I like Tyreke at the two but Smart may opt for Thornton. For the starting PG position Brooks may beat out IT or IT could prove he belongs there. Outlaw, Johnson, Salmons and maybe even Tyreke could be it at the SF spot. Power Forward would seem to belong to JT after the failed Hickson experiment of last season. But Thomas Robinson could blow up in training camp and preseason and force the coaches hand.

I like:

Brooks
Evans
Johnson
JT
DMC

With Thornton, Outlaw and Robinson being the first 3 off the bench.

i feel like it will be like this
IT
Reke
Salmons/J.Johnson (depends who impresses the coach in camp)
JT (T-Rob will take the starting spot in time)
DMC

Thornton is 6th man

Unless Brooks shoots like he did when he won MIP, IT should start no question. IT does everything better.

If IT doesn't start, hopefully it's because he's the 6th man and the team goes with Evans/MT in the backcourt.

ya i agree. the only way i would be ok with IT not being the starter is if Smart puts Tyreke at the starting PG, but i dont see that happening

I think that IT is the starting PG when training camp starts, but Brooks will have the opportunity to take it away from him.
SG should be Tyreke unless he comes into camp and just stinks up the court. This should make our depth in the back court much better than last season.
SF is the real question mark for obvious reasons. It would make sense to think that JJ would get the nod, but either Salmons or Outlaw could take it away from him if they play the way they did in the past. Of the 2, I would think that Outlaw has the better chance (Salmons seemed to imbrace his role off the bench last year).
While Thomas Robinson may be the starting PF of the future, I think JT will start this season. This will allow robinson to adjust to the NBA at an easier pace.
Obviously, DMC is our starter at center.

The writer seems to overlook the impending dominance of Demarcus Cousins. The second half of last season Cousins seemingly tore through every team he faced. This could be a team that Cousins carries into the playoffs annually. Kings as the surprise team of the upcoming season? I think theres a realistic chance. With the big man that we have id say theres enough talent to make significant improvement in the win column. Add one year of experience together and a training camp and we could be in for a surprise.

Wouldnt be surprised if the starting PG spot is up for grabs between IT and Brooks. They'll battle it out in training camp. I'd rather it go to IT, since Brooks is yet another short "me first" guard. IT passes, and was starting to develop some chemistry with Cousins.

I pray nightly (not really) that Reke starts at the 2, and M(e first)arcus Thornton comes off the bench. MT/Reke at the 2/3 was garbage. MT, Brooks, TRob off the bench is nasty.
