Gilbert Arenas?

Trueblood

Bench
I know it will turn off most but hear me out first.

The Wiz are saying all the right things regarding Arenas but don't be fooled. It's to up his trade value as much as possible. He played his best ball when Wall was out and is clearly more comfortable playing on the ball as opposed to off it or coming off the bench altogether.

The Kings need a PG and a shooter in the worst way. Arenas fits both bills.

So, my proposal is that we either send Beno and Dalembert for Arenas or if ownership wants to give up more salary that's still on the books for next year, they could add Cisco and have the Wiz throw in filler like Thornton and Yi.

So you either have Cisco, Beno and Dalembert for Arenas, Yi and Thornton or you do Beno and Dalembert for Arenas straight up.

Despite his ridiculous salary, keep in mind that Sac isn't the greatest FA destination around and the team is going to be $30 million under the cap next summer. If you get rid of Beno and Cisco, you're really only adding 5 to 6 million in salary and you still have to sign someone to just get to the minimum cap. By the time Reke and Cousins become FA's, meaning when the team will start going over the cap, Arenas will only have a year left on his deal and will be completely off when Cousins becomes an FA.

I dont hate the Idea of adding Gilbert. He can shoot with the best of them. He is big for a Guard, so either him or Reke will have a mismatch against opposing PGs. It also seems like he has 'bought' in to John Wall being the guy, and has been a pretty good number two without trying to be the number one.

All that being said, he is still a loose cannon. He still makes a ton of money, and he still is incredibly injury prone.

Lets put it this way, I'd rather have him than Baron Davis. And if the Wiz gave us a really good deal, I would think about it. Would have to be great though.

First off, I'm sure the Wizards aren't in any hurry to trade Gil just yet. When they do finally decide to trade him, you think it would be for atleast a prospect or a first round draft pick because while he has been injury prone, when healthy, he can still produce for any team.

Second, as much as the Kings could use his services, he would be better off on a championship caliber team. He deserves to compete for a ring at this stage in his career, he will help mentor John Wall while he is there, but I'm sure he would want to go to a playoff team after his tenure in DC is through.

Go for it. Atleast with a line up of GIl/Reke/Cisco/Landry/Cousins we'd score a lot of points and have some shooting on the floor. I WANT GIL IN SAC!!!!!!!!

The Kings can't go any lower on salaries, last I looked they were at the minimum or very close.

Right. This is why I'm thinking they are one of the few teams that could take on Gil's deal. Also why I throw in Yi and Thornton even though the Kings have no need for either player. Bringing back those salaries with Cisco, Dalembert and Beno leaving allows them to hit the minimum cap level.

You do not trade Samuel Dalembert. You just don't. Right now he might be the best/most consistent thing the Kings hae going, and represents hope of establishing a personality on defense. He's already won the keep Daly/keep Landry debates as far as I am concerned.

Now Gil as a loose cannon defense-disdaining ball-needing pickup is probelmatic anyway -- how's it work any better with Reke than with Wall? How's it rok better than Kevin? -- but if you are going to do it you ship out the stuff he is going to replace -- perimeter guys, scorers -- not the stuff you would desperately need more of to balance all those shots from the backcourt -- defense, size, rebounding etc.

I don't understand why management don't realize the huge advantage we have when putting Evans at PG. They put Beno next to him, and now Head. As good as he is, I don't want Arenas. Let's get a legit 6'6"ish SG to put next to Tyreke and then watch the other teams try and guard both of them.

And then let's watch zero ball movement and poor ball handling.

Only if the the Wizards buy him out. I would not want him to be a 100 mill dollar man with us.
Other than that heck yea bring him over.

Gilbert is owed $80 million over the next 4 years. I would say that he is the most untradeable player in the NBA right now.

Maybe so. However, it's not like the Wizards are looking to move him at any cost. He still can produce and it shows. Problem is, he and Wall haven't been playing all that well together when they have been seeing time together, so that could be a reason for concern.

The dude in on the books for 4 more years after this year. He's making around 17 mil this year, and 20 mil in his last year. I like some of what Arenas would bring to the team, but not enough to give up Dalembert and take on that huge salary. He is only 28 yr's old and has good size at 6'4". But sorry, no way..

how bout DMC and Dalembert and change to the Wiz for their #1 and Arenas. We suffer for the remainder of the year upfront, but then draft Irving and Barnes and overpay rstricted FA Marc Gasol in free agency. Then you have a beauftiful Nucleus of Evans,Kyrie,Barnes and Gasol. Now thats a nice direction to go. But no, no no no we cant give up the franchise in DMC

A reason why I mentioned he would be more suited going to a championship team. He has had a fair share of being on rebuilding teams and young teams in his day and hardly had a chance to compete for the prize. After all he's been through, it would do him great wonders to go deep in the playoffs.

While he may not be a good fit for the Kings, I don't think I would go as far as saying he deserves to be playing for a championship. He's still in his 20's and when you get down to it, he has dug his own grave. The gun situation was completely his fault. He should be thankful that he's still getting paid as much as he is or that the Wiz gave him that contract in the first place. He deserves nothing. He needs to re-invent himself and this is about as good a situation for that. If he's still playing well when his deal is up, he can look for championship situations.

Ouch! That's gotta be a low blow sir.
