George Maloof on KHTK @ 3PM

He's on now. Says the Maloof family is 100% committed to getting this done in Sacramento.

I'd listen, but spin control makes me feel uneasy. Like watching Wile E Coyote build a bird trap. I'm just not good with dramatic irony.

Wow. Talk about a heavy handed jockey trying to lead a dumb horse to water. Now, Grant will spin the nonsense George said and a sentence from David Stern into gospel for about half of the die hard Kings fans (despite the express language of the term sheet, what the Maloof did between Orlando and appearing at mid-court with KJ and David Stern’s actions and comments yesterday). Whatever they pay this Grant, it’s not nearly enough.

Hey, I didn't say I BELIEVED him, I was just saying what he said. ;)

Damn, missed it.

This link will have audio rebroadcast of interview in a few hours or definitely by tomorrow. It was about 15 mins and part that is disappointing (somwhere between bump in the road and a hurdle as stated) is how there's apparently "other issues" in term sheet that need to be worked out - besides pre-development agreement. How is it that $3.26 million in pre-development cost (who pays what) is this huge issue but coming up with $70+ million for the deal by Maloofs is "no problem," - that's what Georgie said!

Grant said that he will replay the interview in the 5-6 o'clock hour for those who missed it.

lol grant just said the pre-development costs wernt in the term sheet, Their right there! this guy is dilusional

Grant just said the term sheet clearly establishes the Maloofs have agreed to commit 73 million dollars to the deal no matter what. Within the next 5 minutes later, he said the express clause regarding predevelopment costs in the term sheet is not binding because all four parties haven’t signed it. Try to wrap your head around that one.

Grant, you either have to abandon the term sheet legally or live with it. It’s not a salad bar.

If I win the Mega Millions today Ill pay whatever cost is needed to get this done so we can move on.

Interestingly, George Maloof said Kings are "committed" to the $73M not that they "have it" - not to quibble, but Grant did ask him if they had the money to put up.

Yup George sadi KJ came out and said they had a deal agreed up. He said, that's not what happened, they had the framework for a deal agreed upon.

Basically said KJ was trying to make it sound more positive than it was.

I just think George is a miserable person. I think Joe used to be a huge win at any cost guy, until he saw those costs affect him, and I think Gavin would do pretty much anything to save the kings.

I listened to the interview. Didn't believe a word George said. Listened as he called KJ a liar. Listened as he said from day one they insisted on not paying pre development costs even though it's there for everyone to see in plain writing on the term sheet. Heard him say he's 100% committed to Sac even though his newly hired PR rep said almost the exact opposite yesterday in LA.

Is there a tougher team to root for? S*** owners. S*** coaches ever since Adelman. S*** product on the court. Broke owners throwing away millions on players who contribute nothing. Grant lying out of his a**, or simply not knowing the facts, to do everything possible to make George, his boss, look good.

Just so incredibly sick of this. One thing after a goddamn other. We really need to clean house, from top to bottom. Owners, FO and coaching staff. It's all connected. Seems there's little if any logic coming out of our organization, and what little we do hear are fabricated half truths at best from our owners.

Why is it so damn hard to be a fan of this team!? GS boo'd the hell out of their owner after he promised playoffs and came up short. Don't agree with doing it during Mullins ceremony but the Maloofs at the least deserve to have 17,317 booing the hell out of them. And I feel bad for Gavin in all of this as I think he does want to be here, but you've had numerous chances to keep George's mouth shut and keep him out of this, and having your family putting everything involving this team up to a vote is something I for one just don't want to put up with anymore.

I can understand the Maloofs hesitant to contribute "pre-development expenses". The Kings after all are now going to be only a tenant in the city owned Entertainment Complex and Arena. If you were going to move to a new condo or apartment complex and signed a 20-year lease for a place that had not yet been built would you want to contribute "pre-development expenses"? Didn't think so. But our beloved David Stern and the NBA to the rescue in that they will work with the Maloofs to get that payment done. So problem should go away unless the media and fringe fans want to make a mountain of a small mole hill. Progress is painful and takes much cooperation and patience. We're getting there.

I may have some of this wrong: the proposal passed by the City Council included an area that said that the Kings would pay a certain percentage of the pre-development expenses. That would appear to settle the issue as far as the Kings obligation go except, as I understand it, the Kings never agreed to the proposal.

They still think there is room for negotiation and perhaps there is. Unfortunately for them, Stern disagrees with their position and they ARE (read George) beginning to sound like whiney brats. They have never had to worry about money before in their lives and now suddenly have been reduced to being just like you and I. It's tough, isn't it, guys? Maybe it's time to step aside and acknowledge that you really aren't rich like the rest of the NBA owners.

After learning more about this I see from where the Maloofs are coming. It was said from the very beginning when the term sheet was agreed upon that there were many important details to be hammered out. As Stern said, "there is still heavy lifting to be done." He went on to state that pre-development costs were one of those issues. This "bump" was predictable. It appears that more bumps are on the horizon. The term sheet was the big picture of how this is to work, but details remain.

I really wish stuff like this would not make it to the media. It only results in knee jerk reactions, anger, high blood etc based upon incomplete information and often half truths. This stuff needs to be done behind closed doors imho.

It's pretty clear that George thinks he shouldn't have to pay a dime until this thing is passed all the environmental challenges as the last hurdle. Pre-development costs are not recovered if for some reason this project gets killed. AEG got it in writing in the term sheet that the Kings would reimburse AEG their money if the project was killed. So there is no chance that George is telling the truth. This amounts to the same junk they pulled during the Q&R effort. Running the same damn playbook again. Only this time he's got to fight off Stern and KJ. Last time the city leaders were weak and had no pull and Stern was out of the picture. Even George was quoted today as him having a disagreement with Stern over this.

I wouldn't really believe too much of what George says, he's a habitual liar because he most likely wants to go to Anaheim. He's never embraced Sac, why start now? I mean I assume the predevelopment costs were included in the 73 mill they were scheduled to pay. Either way you have to pay 73 mill.

Agree with all of this.

But this isn't leasing a condo. The Kings are claiming to be ready to pay 70 million to help build the arena. You don't pay to build a condo. The agreement for the 73 million that includes pre-development costs that George says "will be no problem" is the same agreement as this 3 mill pre-development contribution.

This is just the first step and they're already trying to get out of assumed obligations.

What this means, which Grant was very cautious to avoid acknowledging, is that if this term agreement on pre-development costs is not binding or meaningful then pretty much all of it is not meaningful. It's not like one part of the term is more official than the rest.

Responding to Cruz condo

That would be apples to apples if you paid for your condo and got to collect all the parking fees from every other tenant for 50 nights of the year, take a huge share of the naming rights for the complex, and took other profits from the other units. AIG is more than willing to do what the city is asking the maloofs to do, AIG gets more days but they are less profitable than Kings games, and AIG has a business that makes money.

If we are going to listen to somebody say what is done, or not done, with these costs. I'll follow AIGs actions, feel free to follow George's were just tenants words. No tenants pay these, well other than the other tenant to the same building

I believe we are giving the Maloofs a hard time here.. It's a negotiation. Nothing was signed yet people. If they said they weren't going to pay the pre-development, and Stern comes out before this came up and said they still had to negotiate then why is everyone so up in arms over it!?

Who cares!!!! It's going to get done, and people are being stupid over nothing.

Maybe, but obviously the City Council does not think it's being stupid over nothing. http://www.sacbee.com/2012/03/30/4380095/city-puts-off-spending-money-on.html
