George Karl Officially Signed (Sacramento Bee Tweets)

There seems to be a few tweets around that suggest that coach Karl will be bringing along a lot of the staff with him. Not sure what it means for the guys already here. I suspect Ty Corbin will not be back and probably a few if not all of his assistants.
According to the yahoo article, Corbin won't be a part of Karl's staff

According to WOJ
14/15 : $1.25M
15/16 : $3.25M
16/17 : $5M
17/18 : $5M ($1.5M guarantee)

Seems like a bargain! I guess they want to see how he holds up for a full year until he gets to that $5 mil level. I also wasn't sure by "4-year contract" if they were counting the rest of this season or not.

Something doesn't add up. Market prices are way higher than that. Fisher got 5/yr and he's not doing anything. The years and money are low for Karl. We know that the front office has no pull, so what's going on? Surely Orlando could better that offer. Karl's agent should have easily gotten more. I'm so confused.

It wouldn't be surprising if in the contract there is a large bonus for getting to the playoffs.

I expected almost double that!

Well.. I can say for the first time in a long while, I am excited for Kings games again!

Welcome Coach Karl!

I cannot wait to see George Karl on the sidelines. I cannot tell you guys how excited I feel about this acquisition. If there's anyone on the planet who can turn things around, it's him.

Well, there was talk that Karl was looking for a guarantee on '17-'18, which is a potential lockout year. We probably didn't want to give him a guarantee, but it appears that he's gotten $1.5M. If you assume that the '17-'18 season is a goner (let's not be too pessimistic, but...) then he'll get a total of $11M to coach 192 games, or $4.7M per full season. It's a hint under Fisher but that Fisher contract was frankly absurd given his complete lack of coaching experience. I'm not sure it really sets the market.

I think the first and biggest thing is that he wants to win. He has the chance to become the winningest coach ever, and I'm sure he wants a championship or two. Our core offers the best chance to do so, that simple.

Also, he has a history with PDA, and apparently they had a good relationship. It's also VERY obvious that Pete has mountains of respect for Karl, so he has some assurances that his voice will carry weight in the FO.

Finally, 3.5 years is a massive commitment for a 63 year old with a history of health issues. I do think we got a discount in the sense that he could have pushed for 4/20 but Sac is honestly the perfect fit for him from the outside perspective.

What is the deal with how Corbin was treated? He is a professional. Things like this happen in the NBA. He got a guarenteed contract. He's getting paid. Enough of the pity party. This is a business. H wasn't producing results whatsoever, and a terrible HC.

It's not the firing it's the process that is morally reprehensible. The leaks of the negotiations while Corbin was still expected to go out and coach, the essential public spectacle of it all.

I completely agree with you. Keep in mind that Tyrone Corbin earns a handsome salary regardless of the situation. He's been treated with the utmost respect by our front office although we only hear about the negative aspects of the position he's currently in through the media. At the end of the day, Ty Corbin has been grateful to the Kings for giving him the opportunity to coach this team. He will surely be given another opportunity in the near future with another NBA team.

guess organizations dont have o be professional?

The fallout begins from the morally reprehensible treatment of Ty Corbin.

One of the ugliest, most mishandled, episodes in NBA history finally ends.

But it doesn't really. This new ownership group's rep is in the toilet.

Those of you keeping your head in the sand on this are delusional. This was really really disgusting on so many levels.

And George Karl sure as heck isn't innocent in this. We will see how the players react.

I like how SVG won't even call it a coaching search, cause it really wasn't.

I'm standing up for Ty here. He's a person. He deserved respect and got it from no one. Sorry if that bothers people.

Detroit Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy believes the Sacramento Kings have made a mockery of their "very public" pursuit of George Karl and it's "inexcusable" how they've treated Tyrone Corbin.

Sources confirmed to ESPN on Thursday that Karl will replace Corbin after All-Star Weekend.

"I think it's an unfortunate situation the way it's been handled," Van Gundy told reporters before the Pistons' 104-87 loss to the Spurs on Wednesday. "I think Tyrone Corbin has been treated very, very poorly by their organization. I think the way they've treated him is unfortunate and inexcusable for one of the real class acts in our business.

"To have a very public coaching, not search, courting going on and while you're asking him to coach games, I think he's handled it with a great deal of class."

""But you don't need to do it the way they're doing it now. That thing's been in the news for two weeks now, and Tyrone's coaching and they obviously don't have any problem treating him like that."

I would respond to this by saying that there are consequences when you do not settle for mediocrity.

Faxing his resume from a Sacramento Kinkos....

Well let's just move on and hope the sophomores in the FO have learned from their mistakes.

Already stuck with Vivek.

Christ man, you wanted Corbin. Now you're fine with this? Pretty heartless, just like our FO.

Ps-You literally copied the 4th comment down on the article I posted.

Holy LOL at quoting SVG talking about the "right way" to approach head coach search.

Is that all you can talk about anymore? Christ, man. I pretty much agree with you, but the way you continue to hound on this is pathological.

More important than anything is the change in culture...

New state of the art arena, a hungry HOF coach and the best big man in the NBA who happens to be at the ripe old age of 24.

This is the best I have felt about the Kings in a very very long time! Go Kings!
