Someone's gonna need to be there for you in June when Mullin gets hired.
If Mullin truly wanted the job he would have already had it. Reality is he's already in the de facto GM position and doesn't need to take the pay cut to be coach. There is NO reason to continue to believe he wants it, regardless of what hints you may be thinking are out there. Mullin may be a lot of things but he's not a fool. He's been around the NBA a very long time. Right now, he's sitting as Grand Vizier at the right hand of the Emperor. He's not going to give that up.

What the hell does Mullin even DO to warrant whatever his salary is? And how much IS he getting paid? If it's anywhere near what they'd have to pay Karl, then fire Mullin ASAP if his salary is what's stopping Karl's hire.

Does Mullin have ANY deliverable he is expected to complete, with ANY quantitative results required, or does he just get to talk about his opinions all day, with no accountability?

I could be mistaken but I believe Mullin is an unpaid consultant, who just happens to have the ear of the owner. With no salary there's no accountability. I'm not quite sure how much blame to lay at Mullin's feet, however. I think PDA made a strong enough case to Vivek for firing Malone and was given an ultimatum when he did so. Fire Malone and things better get better. Well, things haven't gotten better and the entire front office is shocked to see just how quickly they used up all their good will.

I'll come out and say my point of view

Bringing back Malone is the only true solution to the coaching situation
There is NO WAY that happens. None. The only true solution is to bring in the new coach ASAP, and that coach better have much better bona fides than Malone or the fanbase will never again trust the front office. Who fits the bill? George Karl. End of discussion.

The front office needs us right now more than ever. They've got a nice shiny new arena in the works that they need to pay for.

The Kings FO backed themselves into a corner here. They fired a coach that had the team playing a smash mouth basketball that won games when DMC was healthy and they had no plan in place to replace him. They essentially said that in their eyes Malone was so bad that just by getting rid of him the team would be better off. And clearly that's not the case.

All this talk about improv jazz and NBA 3.0 and being a running team despite the fact that their best player is a halfcourt beast and the interim coach they are all backing right now is a disciple of Jerry Sloan's Flex offense, heavy on pick and rolls and grind it out defense.

Now either they ignore the angry cries of their customers/fan base or they are pushed into hiring George Karl.

Not really a great look either way, though obviously I'd want Karl here.

Side note. If there were a contest for the worlds smallest mustache, Tyrone Corbin would have to win. That thing is amazing.

It's not peachfuzz. It's not 5 o'clock shadow. It's a meticulously crafted miniature mustache. Maybe this isn't the place to discuss its awesomeness but come on - the alternative is talking about how the 5 win Knicks forced overtime in Sacramento and only a 9-0 run saved the Kings from an embarrassing loss.

Do you think he has a really tiny mustache comb?

I thought I would eventually be less mad about the Malone decision but I am still mad as ever. This team is languishing with a lame duck coach. Who in the organization do we email to voice our extreme displeasure? I have stopped watching the games from lack of interest in this train wreck.

p.s. when are we starting a fire PDA thread?

Billy Beane has done extremely well on a limited budget, for what it's worth.
Right, which is why I don't see the comparison as being apt. Maybe in terms of trying to be revolutionary with metrics, but there are several NBA clubs that have already been focused in that direction. And in terms of building a team, Beane's financial restrictions have always meant finding overlooked value that he could afford.

From the Gay trade and the interest in Josh Smith and Deron Williams clearly one of the strategies of Ranadive/D'Alessandro is a willingness to take on hefty, inflated contracts from teams looking to get out from under them in the hopes that the players would return to previous form with a new team/scheme.

That's more of a page out of the Yankees' playbook than the Atheletics'

Honestly, this is probably how JT felt. Throughout his entire Kings career, he's had so many coaching changes and never had stability. One coach would tell him to this, other coach would tell him to do that, this coach would tell him to do this, and etc. I think it's really cut into his player development a little bit.

I feel bad for JT.. the guy was doing so good under Malone and he had his role. Now he's basically suffering.. without a role. His name is always involved in trade talks too. I wish there was a little bit more stability on our team...just a little bit.

I hope the FO signs George Karl soon. You can't really fix this mess unless you bring him in. Think about how discouraged the entire team will be come All Star Weekend. Would not be surprised if a certain player(s) wanted to be out of Sac. Just please build around Boogie and listen to your All-Star Center.. This high up tempo just isn't for us. It's not when your primary players are DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay. Who cares if more than half the NBA plays a fast uptempo offense. When they have to face the King, we're going to play a slow half court offense where we'll force THEM into playing our pace. It's worked for the Grizz.

Let's hire Karl. I almost wish this was a lost just to show our FO we aren't satisfied with the current state of the team. They won't listen to us, because they'll point at last night's W/L column.

Yes, that's exactly my point. Emulating Billy Beane, to whatever extent that Vivek might in fact be attempting to do so, is not exactly a bad thing despite what was implied in the comment I responded to.
Speaking as a LONG suffering A's fan, if the kings went in the billy beane direction I would not support the team at all. No way. There is no more abused fan base than A's fans. Beane brings in the trash of other teams and turns them into stars. Then he sells them and starts again. Just take a look at what he's done to the good to great team of the past 3 years. It's completely gone. A's fans are in full revolt. There won't be more than 5,000 fans in the stands for any given game next season. It's a bad time in A's land and I don't want any part of that here in sacramento.

That's obviously not what I'm referring to, or what the original comment was referring to. The original comment was referring to Beane's use of advanced metrics to build a good team (incidentally on a very low budget, allegedly a problem we won't have here with Vivek at the helm), not to Beane's need to tear down and start again every three years or so because Lew Wolff won't open his pocketbook to hold on to the good players Beane has developed.

If Vivek is trying to develop metrics within the now-so-derided "NBA 3.0" that will make him the Billy Beane of the NBA (again, with the understanding that Vivek is clearly willing to be one of the top spenders in the league unlike Wolff) I don't see how that's a bad thing. Of course, I was under the impression that "NBA 3.0" was about the marketing side of the business, not the on-court side, but what do I know?

I get you now.
I tend to overreact and get instant stomach pains when I hear billy beane mentioned anywhere.

The Kings do hear our plea for Karl!

@amiller since Vivek & Pete aren't hearing our cries I come to you begging to hire George Karl

Andrew Miller ‏@amiller 10h10 hours ago
@allbenjamens we all hear u. He is a great coach. Lots of data points and opinions to gather to make right decision. Thx.

Patrick ‏@SoccerRising 9h9 hours ago
@amiller @allbenjamens Means a lot to know how plugged in you all are. Please don't misinterpret fans' passion as lack of appreciation.

Andrew Miller ‏@SoccerRising @allbenjamens the passion is what makes Sacramento special! We didn't get in this to lose. #keepthefaith

So the rediculous data points tweet has been deleted.....hummm.

wow I really really really DO NOT LIKE the fact that Andy Miller's tweets have been deleted. That reeks. And by "reeks" I mean it sucks to high heaven. Isn't this guy a former top Facebook executive or something? He's letting himself get muzzled wtf?????!!!!

I think when push comes to shove I will renew my tickets since one of my partners has said "I'm in for at least a quarter". If that means he will bump up to a half if necessary - I'm going to stay with it while holding my nose at PDA. I have some of the best seats - one of the best value spots - so I will pray and assume that I can defray my losses. But it is really close. I will stall till the final day to commit and I will only commit if my partner(s) come thru for at least half the price right up front. If he waffles, I'm out.

It really is a razor thin value proposition based on the particular seats, and whether I buy in the new arena will rely a lot on seat selection and cost.

I still think the typical STH will bolt absent a spashy coaching hire and/or PDA firing but who knows, maybe I'm wrong about that. Maybe the Kings have some trick up their sleeve that we aren't anticipating.

As an owner of the Kings, he has certain obligations and I'm sure there are some contractual restrictions on what he can and cannot say publicly as far as corporate business is concerned. I think you're reading way too much into this. I was pretty surprised to see him tweet it publicly in the first place.

Quick translation:

data points = Karl's salary demands
opinions = how mad Kings fans will be if we don't hire Karl

Neither will I. If anything it would be me just getting to a point of apathy where I just don't have any interest anymore. Quite honestly I got there with the 49ers this year. The Harbaugh situation, Kaepernick's (and Harbaugh's) truculence with the media, but largely the off the field issues with Ray McDonald, Chris Culliver and Aldon Smith kind of left me wondering why I was spending 3 hours a week watching these guys and several hours beyond that reading up on them/watching NFL network etc. I'm not done as a 49ers fan by any stretch but this season has pushed me to a point of relative indifference. I hope I never get that way about the Kings.
When they re-hire Mike Nolan, or any other yes man, I'll be done.

nevertheless, he is not some local small businessman with a vanity ownership... he's a big hitter. And I actually liked what he said - you know the part about "we hear you". I thought it was a good look for one of the Kings top guys to answer without lying. I wish he had not deleted it.
