George Karl Introductory Press Conference live stream at 2

Karl was impressive. I like his answer to the last question when a reporter asked if he was going to have a sit down discussion with Cousins when he got back. He laughed and said, I'm going to have a lot of sit down discussions with Cousins. I''ll probably have 20 discussions with him in the next 20 days. He may not like a lot of them though. ....
He seems to have a quiet confidence about taking this job. He also appears to be seeing the job as part of building his legacy.

In regards to PDA and the timing of Karl's hiring, he finally did admit when asked a second time, that he was wrong in how he handled the situation. He said he did want to give Corbin the opportunity to see what he could do. But in hindsight, he see's now that he put Corbin in an impossible situation and doesn't think anyone could have handled that situation well. He said as things played out, it was apparent to him that he had made a mistake, and he also knew that the coach he wanted was sitting there waiting to be hired. So he went to Vivek and told him he had misjudged the situation and that he needed to make another change. Once again I'm paraphrasing, but in essence, he admitted that he had made a mistake.

Very surprised to hear him admit he made mistakes.
It's funny because (like many people when they say they made a mistake) he did not use I.

I was typing as he was speaking, but I think he said,"I put Ty in an impossible situation" and "you have to acknowledge what you did was wrong." "At the time I didn't recognize that."

This move definately buys PDA some time. Marketing can now go back to selling hope again for *next year as always and the storm will calm. Now PDA is truely on the clock to turn this thing into a winner, if no improvement is made thru next season he is as good as gone.

I understand that Karl is supposed to be interviewed some time during what is usually Napear's timeslot.

It amuses me how much more natural and less stilted Carmichael Dave sounds on the radio than Napear. It's like Napear took the advice about controlling your breathing while on the air about ten steps too far.

As long as they stop using #SacramentoProud. I'm Sacramento proud, but goodness have they overused that or what?!

You know, your just parsing words now. He admitted that he made a mistake. Period! OK? Do we really have to quible about how he said it. Do you dislike him that much? I don't have time for that kind of nonsense.

Its too bad, I saw one of those commercials on league pass and I thought it was a cool commercial...wasted by being introduced right at one of the least proud moments in Kings history, making it seem like a bad joke, or a manipulative move. Wish they had either a) not allowed PDA to **** up the season by canning the coach who was actually making us proud, or b) stashed the commercials in the basement and saved them until the team actually starts showing signs again.

Well, Napier did go to college to become a sports announcer. He is a professional, whether you happen to like him or not. Carmichael Dave is a guy with no professional background who stumbled into broadcasting by accident. Sometimes that can create a refreshing change from the what you normally would expect.

I don't know what Napear going to college to be a broadcaster or whether I like him or not has to do with his shortcomings on the radio. The former doesn't particularly qualify him for the latter.

You know sometimes, I think you just look for an argument. I never said his going to college had anything to do with your liking him or in your opinion, his shortcomings. I don't know why you like of dislike him, nor do I care. I was simply saying that the reason he may sound the way he does is because he was trained to be a professional broadcaster, and Dave wasn't.

Wow, I get the sense that you might be reacting to a conversation that I was not a part of. I neither dislike or like PDA. I am a social scientist and find it interesting the way people in public life talk about and admit mistakes. I made a comment on it.

And just as an aside, words and tone are important.

And all that I am 'simply' saying is that Grant Napear is not the only guy in his business who has been trained to be a professional broadcaster, but he's one of only two people I've ever heard on radio who talks like he talks on the radio, which leads me to believe that his affectation doesn't have anything to do with how he was trained.

And, FWIW, from my point of view, you're being the argumentative one. I made a post in which I contrasted Napear's style with Carmichael Dave, and then you decided to cape up for Napear. And, you know, that's whatever; you're free to say what you want. Just don't try to make it sound like I'm trying to pick a fight, when that's not how it went down. Me choosing not to let your direct quote of my post go unanswered does not constitute me 'looking for an argument'.

Unfortunately on a forum like this, you don't get to read the expression on a persons face, nor hear the inflection of a persons voice. Sorry if I misread you. I humbly apologize....

One of the things the Kings' media dept needs to stop is all of the really old Jason Williams videos. I love Jay, he's the reason why I'm a Kings fan, but he was only on the team for 2 1/2 years. Let it go already.

No problem. But see you used I there. If you were in public life, you might have said "When you are on an internet forum, you sometimes misread people and then you have to apologize." :)

But you are right, PDA was candid about the mistake he made and took responsibility for it, even though I'm sure there were other parties involved.

You made a general statement about the difference between how Napier sounded on the radio, and how Dave sounded on the radio. I thought it was an interesting take, and offered that perhaps the difference came from the fact that Napier was professionally trained. It wasn't meant to defend Napier, or cape up as you say, whatever the hell that means. I was just responding to your general comment. It wasn't mean't to be critical, supportive, or critical of you, Napier, or Carmichael Dave. To be honest, I didn't expect a response to my post, since it was meant only as my opinion on why they might have a different approach, and wasn't meant to be an endorsement of either of them. OK! I'm not frigging attacking you, or your post.

My grandmother told me when I was young man to beware of people that constantly use the word I. Of course she also told me to never trust a person wearing a bow tie.

Vivek talking to CD and Deuce right now.
Paraphrasing, he loves the kings fans "passion". He dealt with warriors fans "passion" when he was chairman of the warriors and he had to do something that was unpopular.
He's taking 1 step back to take 2 steps forward. Talking about how things are done in Silicon Valley and that the fans will eventually see where his vision is taking us.

Thank god deuce is there cause Dave is just schoozing vivek.

FYI - to "cape up" means to come to the rescue, to defend (as in to don your superhero cape)

And having said that, I'm getting out here. Way too much scrutiny of words IMHO. I'm so glad we get back to being able to focus on the things I like to talk about on Friday.

GO KINGS!!!

It makes me so excited to know that the Kings have a coach. And not just a coach, but one of THE coaches. He might be the best coach the Kings have ever had (forgive me Rick).

Whoah, whoah, whoah, there. I find those who wear bow ties to be among the most educated, handsome, and generally awesome people on this planet.

That, and bow ties are cool.

I was right there with you ... until your last sentence. I don't think we ever need to compare Karl to Adelman. For me, it's just incredible to know we've got another great coach.

When we were losing by 20pts a night and they were posting to social media a dunk highlight and the score had us laughably out of the game with a #SacramentoProud I lashed out at whoever was posting those sometimes.

I like the concept, but the execution was embarrassing.

Well, hey, I'm not "frigging attacking you, or your post," either. "OK!" I just don't know why you thought that I wouldn't reply to you replying to me? Exactly how often do you think that happens, where I am concerned?

My post was not about Carmichael Dave, or his style. It was about Grant Napear, and his style. The only reason why I mentioned Dave by name is because he happened to be the guy who was on the air at the time I was listening. I feel like I could have named any other guy in the business except for Jim Rome, and my post would have been just as accurate. Napear's style is very unusual and off-putting to me, and I'm pretty sure that he's not the only guy in his profession who has a similar background. Just a couple of guys with similar education, off the top of my head, are Mike Tirico, Mike Greenberg, Scott Van Pelt and Ryan Ruocco. All of those guys went to school to be announcers, all of them have radios shows, and none of those guys sound like he does on the radio.

I don't know how you do it. I'd never the the expression "caping up" let alone know what it might mean. You young people have all the advantages. Now, please excuse me, I have to cape up.
