Petrie signs three-year extension

According to sources close to the Kings, basketball president Geoff Petrie signed a three-year extension today.
While it had been clear for some time that Petrie and co-owners Joe and Gavin Maloof were determined to get a deal done, the length of the contract appears to have grown in the final stages of negotiations. A two-year deal had initially been discussed. - Sam Amick

Good move to get that out of the way, now Geoff knows his job is secure and can really get to work on this rebuild!

In Petrie we Trust... for 3 more years (according to Amick)

Edit: Someone beat me to it by a minute, please delete.

Unfortunately, I think Brick's poorly timed criticisms of Gavin's exuberance over the Evans pick may have cost him a shot at the job.

Little did he know that Gavin experienced a seer like vision of the future and all of his crazed exuberance turned out to be all to true.

After this years draft, I will never question Geoff Petrie again. He might pee me off here, but we are definitely a better franchise with him running the show.

Hey, its time to forgive and forget. I'd pay to hear that interview..:)

Unfortunately my arrogance extends upward as well as downward, and I have never been above telling a meddlesome client or employer that hey, I'm smarter than you, that's why you're hiring me, so sit down, shut up, and let me clean up this mess you've gotten yourself into.

I'm okay with this. I've been calling for Petrie's head these last few years, but this offseason, he officially saved his job.

Lol, well we saw how well that worked for Theus with this group. You might need to find some less prideful ownership. Maybe Minnesota.

According to the Sacbee, Petrie will be making $1.2-1.5M/yr over the course of the contract. That's a huge pay cut from the $4M he's taking in this year. He could have easily gone anywhere else and tripled his salary. Say's a lot about his character. Guy's smart and a real class act. The Kings are extremely lucky.

Before, Geoff was getting paid to do two jobs, president of basketball operations and GM. When his new contract kicks in, he won't be GM anymore, Wayne Cooper will. I'm assuming that a big part of the pay cut is the economy, but that less pay for less work also fits into it.

Amick corrected his blog. Petrie is getting 4 million a year, slightly down from the 4.6 he is making this year.

This is the same guy that drafted Quincy Douby a couple years back....

same guy who picked tyreke evans and kevin martin over rubio and vujacic...

you cant NOT sign the architect of this rebuild and trust it to some one else... especially when his creation is showing signs of rebirth and life

you dont just waive a 2 time executive of the year... name guys out there not on a job who can do better? Isiah Thomas? :D

glad maloofs sign him again

I'm almost scared to ask, but is there a point here?

I mean Dumars drafted Darko. Buford drafted Ian Mahinmi. Kupchack drafted Javaris Crittenton. Jerry West either drafted Marcus Bell or Dhantay Jones and Troy Bell (depending on how you count the draft day trade). Please name me any GM with any substantial draft history who has a perfect track record. Again, track record is key, Presti's draft history looks great with the 2nd, 4th and 3rd overall picks. We'll see how some of his later first round picks go.

I'm just hoping this post was meant to be sarcastic, but you forgot to add the smiley.

The best way to answer your question is to direct you towards the other posts this person has made.

:p

Why do I get this feeling that you are like Morpheus offering me the choice between the green pill and the blue pill in the Matrix? Not sure I can handle going down that road.

Incase you're wondering; yes, I was being sarcastic. Common sense should tell you that...

with all the fanatics evans apologists... rubio supporters, purple tinted glass wearing homers and all that i couldnt tell any more :D

Lol, I thought so, but a smiley helps. On these online message boards you can never be sure. Especially since last year I felt like one of the few Petrie supporters left making these similar points left and right.
