Basketball is just a game. Two competitors, one wins , one loses. Our players are paid from a low of $10,000 per game to a high of $200,000 per game. They get paid whether they win or they lose. Because of the pay rate, any given player may or may not enjoy playing basketball. Members of both teams are paid about the same. Players also get applause, but unlike pay, they get more applause if they do well and win.

Tonight our guys are playing the Philidelphia 76ers at their place. Pay for the players is not at stake. Let's hope we have cause to give our guys lots of applause.

That's because the Sixers buy into what their coach is selling, and they play hard, no matter who's on the court for them. One of the rare smart Jerry-isms is, hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard. Philadelphia can't beat any team that matches their intensity for forty-eight minutes (well, maybe the Knicks); the trick is that a lot of teams don't.

Even with the worst NBA teams of all time, if they give A-plus effort, there aren't many teams that have enough raw talent that they can beat them with a D-minus effort; the Kings are not such a team.
