I know this is a month late, but I just found this page! Florida Atlantic University congratulates one of their own former student-player: Yo!

BTW, I read somewhere that Yo almost began her college career with the Univ. of Iowa, but didn't say why she wasn't part of that team. Does anyone know the reason? Not enough money? Grades not good enough?

Anyway, here's the article.

FORMER OWL NAMED WNBA FINALS MVP

Yolanda Griffith averaged 18.5 points-per-game and 9.8 rebounds-per-game.

Sept. 22, 2005

BOCA RATON, FL -- Florida Atlantic University would like to congratulate Yolanda Griffith on being named the WNBA Finals Most Valuable Player. The former Owls star led the Sacramento Monarchs to their first WNBA title.

Griffith led the Owls to a 20-8 record during the 1992-93 season. In just 22 games she set many school records, including the all-time single-season points record with 621, averaging a school-record of 28.2 points-per-game.

Griffith's 1992-93 season was one of the best individual efforts in FAU history. She posted the best field goal percentage in school history (.631), and holds the record for most rebounds in a season with 352. Her 16 rebounds-per-game were also a school record.

Following that season, she was named Division II Kodak Player of the Year and earned Division II All-America honors. Griffith averaged 18.5 points and 9.8 rebounds-per-game in the WNBA Finals.

Actually, Yo became pregnant with Candace before her freshman season. After Candace was born, she wanted to have more time to be a parent, transferred to a junior college in Florida, then on to FAU. I don't think she graduated.
