What about Bill Lambier? He has done a good job with the bigs in Minny (love, Beasty,Darko). Plus he has won championship as a head coach in WNBA.

The problem is that there is not many of those guys around (if any). There were a few during the off-season but they were all snatched up!Maybe after the season, but he's currently an assistant coach, and as I've mentioned I can't remember an assistant coach abandoning his team midseason for another head coaching gig. Same goes for Frank.
Besides, those things are just wildcards. If we are going to make a midseason move to try to save things, and we don't just go with Elie and try to ride things out, I would think you go for an experienced coach, one fo the more established guys ont he market who will actually come, because you don't want to take a chance and have it go even worse. you want somebody who walks through the door with instant authority and experience on his dies, and can get everybody to buy in immediately.

Unless of course Adelman gets the sack in Houston and even then, there is just too much hisotry for us to bring him back. I think he could do a lot of good things with this team. Offence would not be a problem and he has proven that he can have good defensive teams if he has the right personnel. As fluid as Westphal is with his rotations, Adelman is pretty fixed and very rarely does he go more than 9 deep. Its something that this team needs.
Again, chances of getting Adelman are non-existant.
True, but there are a few. Mike Brown jumps to mind. The announcers (JVG, Fratello etc.) of course. Muss is coaching in the D-League, and I'm pretty sure his contract must have an out for an NBA offer.
Does this embarassing loss to the Mavs with awful rotations and arguably the worst last shot attempt play of the decade solidify his firing or do we have to endure more of this?
I have an idea. Might seem a little old fashioned, but what the heck?
Why don't we give this coach more than 100 games before we decide that he's not a good coach and that we need to hire someone else? How about two full seasons? Would that be too much to ask? I know his rotations suck, and I know that the team is not playing to expectations, but seriously, we're 15 games in. A lot of basketball to be played. A lot of new players on the team this year. I think it would be in the best interests of the team this year and moving forward to give Westphal a chance to learn his players tendencies, get into a groove and see what happens.
This is of particular importance in light of the fact that we've had four coaches in the last four seasons. You cannot grow as a team without continuity, or at least some semblance of it. You look around the league (and professional sports in general) at teams that hire and fire coaches the way we have been since Adelman, and none of them are successful. In the NBA, unless the coach is totally out of his league and doesn't know what the heck he's doing, you need to give him at least two years to show some signs of improvement, especially with a young and inexperienced team. Not to mention the roster turnover and injuries over the past several seasons that have killed any chance at a set lineup/rotation.
A lot of people had overblown expectations coming into this season, including fans on this board. Many had the Kings winning 40+ games this year. I don't think there's any question that they have the talent to do so, so the disappointment is understandable. But I don't think firing the head coach 15 games into his second season does any good. We're not a playoff caliber team in the Western conference. Might as well give the coach a chance to right the ship this season, and if he doesn't, then you can claim that you gave him a legitimate chance and he blew it. But 97 games is not a legitimate chance in the NBA.
Don't know if it's been brought up, but in hindsight, it seems there was a reason Geoff was preferring Rambis over PW. While we are in a free fall, he's turned around the careers of Love, Beasely and even Darko.

Big name coaches do not come into a hopeless sitution in middle of an NBA season, so you can forget JVG, Fratetto, Nellie, Silas, Mike Brown, etc. - just doesn't happen. With a lockout looming plus Maloof's apparent money problems, Kings are likely extremely limited in choices - if they were to make a head coaching change. The list would appear to be very small and likelihood of a change on a par with Kenny Natt debacle not something Malooff's want to revist. Make a list anyway if you like but names on it look about like this IMO: Mario Elie, John Wisenhunt, Bill Walton, Geoff Petrie, Kayte Christensen, Slamson.

I liked last nights starting lineup. And it played well together. Actually looked like a team. What I don't get is Westphals love affair with Landry in the 4th quarter. He was obviously struggling and it was just a bad matchup for him. I mean the dude is probably no more than 6'8" in shoes, and he's trying to guard Dirk whose 7'. And at the other end he's not only going up against Dirk, but against Chandler or Haywood, both of whom are good post defenders. I could see his frustration. He was clearly unconfortable out there, and I don't understand why Westphal couldn't see it.
Not that I'm wishing Westphal gets fired, but if he did and the team continued to lose 80% of the time, I wonder what all the people calling for Westphal's head would say then. Would they realize that the problem was more the team than the coach or would they just predictably call for the new coach's head too?
What do you think? Fans first started calling for Adelmans head, then Muss, Theus, Natt, and now Westphal. What does history tell us? Fans always find something to complain about.
As I stated earlier I recommend we keep Westphal. (?) He's paid big money to pick the starters (which change from game to game with no consistency or reasoning), run the rotations,(again, constant change, no consistency) take the glory (glory?) and the heat (deservingly so). I'm quite satisfied with job he's doing. (?) I really think he is the best coach to take the team from here to the end of the season. (cue laughter)
