Finally: Melo traded to Knicks

Denver will receive Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, the Knicks' 2014 first-round draft pick, the Warriors' 2012 second-round pick, the Warriors' 2013 second-round pick and $3 million in cash.

Anthony will go to the Knicks, along with Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman.

Just shows how small market teams just can't compete.

New Yorks defense is going to be worse....even though they already allow 105.8 per, also everybody and their mom know the NBA NEEDS the knicks to be a factor. they will be getting a lot more cheap fouls.

they also get a steal with the move for Candice Parker courtside....I miss that!!!!

Cool, now they can go from beeing a decent team, to a... decent team... This trade is not gonna do much for them(Knicks), mark my words.

Thank god! With that being said, OMG that is a ALOT for Melo no doubt. I don't know if that's good or bad for the Knicks long term, they have no draft picks but they can compete now, boy oh boy the East is stealing all the good all-stars I see.

they just gutted their team for melo

I guess they are banking on chris paul/deron williams/dwight howard coming over in 2012

well they got billups too. thats 2 allstar type players right there for mostly role players, though some players have some upside

And yet Denver comes out of the trade with not a single high draft pick, which at one point was the whole idea.

yep. NYK bent over w/ no lube.

i would've traded melo to any team willing to give up assets and don't mind him walking at the end of the season. screw him over if the CBA isn't in his favor-

How dumb does Toronto look now for not trading Bosh last season? ... Always trade these guys when you know they're going to walk.

i hope the new CBA has some protection for small market teams. this is complete utter BS what the players are getting away with. i don't wanna see reke or demarcus holding the franchise hostage like this

wow. other than Melo, the Knicks got trash in return, lol. Heard Chauncey Billups stormed out of practice. Poor George Karl, too. He loses his favorite player, Anthony Carter.

Well, they'd better hope that the new CBA doesn't rob them of all their capspace to make that sort of a signing. 'Melo+Amare alone will cost them over $40M that summer. The cap isn't going to be staying at $58M. Even if they gutted the rest of the roster and the soft cap rules didn't change and the cap "only" went down to $50M, they'd have at least $5M worth of cap holds for min-level players. You think they're going to get a star PG free agent (or Howard) for the $5M they have left? It's not like they have any trade assets left outside of Landry Fields. I don't see how they do it.

OR multiple first round draft picks that would fast track the re-build but despite all of that, from Knicks perspective, they just got gutted for a single player that probably doesn't make them significantly better.

Any team that has Melo and Amare as its 2 best players is not going too far. They make the play offs in the east but get slaughtered out pretty quickly and they have just traded all of their desireable assets to get him. With the cap likely coming down after the new CBA, the Knicks are well and truly screwed in the long run!

I agree with this. I actually think this makes both teams worse. I liked the NJ deal MUCH better for the Nuggs.

Denver should have scaled back their demand from New Jersey. They could have had Favors and this year's pick, which is likely still in the lottery even with Melo there. They demanded four picks and now they get none (effectively). Well played. But at least Melo and Knicks fans are happy.

I'm pretty sure what it boild down to (see what I did there?) is that Carmelo wanted to be in New York, and refused to sign a deal with the Nets.

That's my understanding as well - of course part of the reason Melo wouldn't sign is because he'd basically be all they had for years after giving up all their talent and their picks.
