FIBA Americas championships

this has to be one of the circles of hell. where your thirst for basketball is unrelenting. but every game is such a blow out, that bill walton gets to talk for an hour about what detergent he likes to use. or the history of baja california. or how he prefers to clip his toenails...or an herbal remedy for curing athlete's foot...space. being. nothingness. spirituality. sex advice.

or anything, really. that would personally make your head explode.

I listened to Walton during the Canada game and actually stared at the TV in disbelief. That guy should be in the Guinness Book of World Records...

You know what I'm a big fan of the philosophical random Bill Walton. I think you learn a lot of random stuff from him. He's a complete nut who goes to the extreme ends of the earth when it comes to hyperbole but his tangents tend to be really interesting sometimes. And considering you're watching a crazy blowout, it tends to be even more interesting than the game.

What the HELL was up with Argentina's tie-dyed jerseys?

HORRIBLE officiating the entire game, almost always in Argentina's favor, but that doesn't excuse getting outrebounded, and the huge amount of turnovers. It's becoming very clear that Redd and Miller are not getting it done. If they are not hitting shots, and they have not been, they are absolutely useless on the court.

Bill Walton's okay. He says some of the strangiest things, but they're unique. The officials were their normal selves I would say. Watched just about every game and the calls are different. This isn't the NBA. The game got sloppy after Kobe pumped up his adrenaline and dominated.

Michael Redd has been fine and has done very well. Miller on the other hand has been absolute garbage. Both are defensive liabilities but at least Redd does has done very well on the other end.

This is beyond annoying....I don't get ESPN classic here. And the link on ESPN to watch the game online is not working. The only significant game of the FIBA tournament...and that's the one that the fates won't let me watch.

USA! USA! USA!

Jason Kidd, Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony are beyond scary. And I'm seeing a side of Kobe I never really appreciated before. His alleys to Melo made for some unbefreakingleivable oops.

I am impressed with this squad most because of the real TEAM play I've been seeing. They obviously left their egos at home and it's awesome to watch.

Jason Kidd tends to have that effect, I think.... I can't remember the last team he was a part of that didn't immediately become better.

Yeah, I agree the egos are left behind and they are having a lot of fun out there. It will be a lot harder in China obviously, but for now they are having lots of fun. Today's game against PR is the 1st game I saw and I'm really looking forward to the US playing Argentina tomorrow.

Doesn't Argentina have Nocionni, Oberto, and Ginobili? I thought I heard they didn't have these players for the games this time around for some reason?

Yeah, having Kidd is great. Sure nice to have a little veteran leadership at PG with all the young pups! :D

I love Kidd, but man if only Nash wasn't Canadian!!! :p

I think Kidd is actually doing a better job than Steve Nash would do in this type of competition.

As far as Argentina goes, I did hear that Nene was injured today but don't know how serious it is.

They all sat out; Fabio, too. There's no question that it's going to be harder in Beijing.

Argentina is w/o those 3 who declined the invitation apparently due to not wanting to risk injury or extra wear and tear. Since Argentina now has their automatic birth to '08 Olympics some or all will likely show up for that MUCH bigger tournament.

Of course, Nene plays for Brasil. Makes one wonder how he would do on Argentina's team since he speaks Portuguese and they speak Spanish. Kind of like when he arrived in the NBA not speaking any English at all - still managed to learn both the language and the NBA game pretty darn fast:)

Man I hope that Wade isn't on this next year. I like the team the way it is. I don't think we need another slasher/ball handler. I like it when the ball is in the hands of Kidd, Deron, Kobe, or LeBron.

I wouldn't have a problem with Wade being BACK on the team at all. He's been in Vegas even though he couldn't play for the past two weeks, supporting the other USA players. I trust Coach K to make the right decisions. The team I saw this afternoon was T-E-A-M. The tone was set by Jason Kidd and (believe it or not) Kobe Bryant. My respect for Bryant has a player has never been higher.

This current TEAM USA is truly representative of the best our country has to offer and I'm very proud of them.

Disagree...Nash wouldn't have brought the defensive intensity that Kidd brings to the table. Kidd's ball pressure (along with Kobe's) created a majority of the turnovers that led to Team USA's explosive fast break game. Moreover, Kidd is just a winner...and a genuine floor leader who inspires teamwork in even the most selfish players.

And Kidd has STILL never lost in a international qualifying game or competition. We have to keep him on the team.

:)

Unless Steve Nash is on a team from a country THAT QUALIFIES for any particular int'l basketball competition like the place where he was born (South Africa) or holds citizenship (Canada), it's a mute point what impact he might have.

True, but it's TDOS. You're liable to find just about anything being discussed.

;)

Bottom line is that Coach K. has a tough choice ahead of him. Not because of who isn't good enough but because he has a lot of genuine talent from which to pick our 2008 Olympic team.
